Garden State Ballet is great place to learn classical ballet. My daughter has been a student there for last 5 years starting when she was 5 year old. She has fallen in love with this dance form and recently graduated to pointe. The transition has been been smooth under watchful eyes of Ms. Jody and Ms. Alison-amazing instructors at the GSB. I highly reccomend this school for students who want to learn intricacies of ballet. The program is really individualized to each students capability and needs. It has been awesome to be part of the GSB family.
My daughter has been learning ballet for last 4 years. Her experience has been outstanding at the school. She is learning the classical ballet from best possible teachers. TThe faculty is highly experienced, qualified and committed to teaching students a highly professional and rigrous ballet program. The foccus of the school is on overall development of the dancers using a balance of strenghth training and dance practice routines. We are blessed to be part of GSB family.
My daughter joined the School of The Garden State Ballet 5 years ago, and I couldn't be more satisfied and happier than I am. She really learns the technique of ballet, which brings discipline and a lot of work. The second year she joined the youth company, and every year she is extremely excited to be part of the Nutcracker. I am very greatfull for Jody's work with her dancers, and the ballet school. Thank you!
My daughter has been going to the School of the Garden State Ballet since she was 4 1/2 years old. Almost 10 years later, classical ballet is the only dance for her. Students at GSB learn excellent classical ballet training while having fun. They learn important life skills like discipline, responsibility, respect, friendship, caring for others, and doing well in school. GSB students love ballet, each other's company, and their teachers too! Preparing for the annual Nutcracker Performance bonds them even closer and we, the parents, get to experience this special bond ourselves during the Nutcracker season. Knowing the company that my daughter keeps after school keeps my husband and me at ease. We highly recommend GSB. Thanks, Jody!
I had the ultimate honor of dancing with Jody and GSB from the age of 9 to 20. I found GSB when I was looking for a serious ballet company as a young child after dancing at several other dance schools. The time spent here was so valuable. Jody and her staff instilled in me life lessons like discipline, time management, attention to detail, the value of working hard, and teamwork to name a few. Although I am no longer a dancer, the lessons learned from Jody far exceeded dance class. As a dancer at GSB, I learned self confidence - genuine self confidence that came from within not just what I was told. I was taught how to identify improvements and grow from them - something that is truly invaluable. To this day, I can accept corrections with grace and poise and learn how to recover from them - something that I truly owe ALL to Jody and GSB. I value GSB and the education that it provides children that I continue to work with Jody from another state - because I believe in what is offered to the children by the school so very much.
Our daughter has been attending GSB since she was 5, she is now 14. It amazes us how her love and dedication for this school grows stronger year after year. Not only has she learned the dance discipline she needs to succeed, but she has also learned how to handle the challenges of school while maintaining her excellent grades. This will be an invaluable life-long experience as she becomes a young adult. This will be her 7th Nutcracker Suite performance. As a member of the GSB Youth Company, her dedication and commitment is more evident from year to year. During the Nutcracker season, the GSB Youth Company performs an average of 8-10 shows for the public and elementary schools. All dancers and parents give 100% of themselves to make this a success! Thank you GSB!
My daughter had the opportunity to attend Garden State Ballet from 1st grade thru senior year of high school. Her experience and training has given her tools to help her exceed in life. The discipline of the art of ballet, friendships, ability to push her limits at the direction and nurturing of the instructors especially the director, Jody Jaron have shaped her into a beautiful young woman. We, the parents, volunteered during Nutcracker season and made us part of the GSB family and shared the joy with our daughter. The non profit status helped us afford the professional training that otherwise we might not have been able to give Catherine this gift.
My daughter was a student at Garden State Ballet from 1st grade through her senior year in High School. She excelled and enjoyed her years there learning to grow in her ability to dance with her ballet friends. She improved her beauty and strength through dance in a challenging, supported, family like environment.
She was a part of the Youth Company and performed in "Nutcracker Suite" which, helped bring ballet to school children who may never see a ballet performed with children their own age .
Thanks to her love of dance and Garden State School of Ballet, she carries herself through life with beauty and grace.
The level of the instruction at The School of the Garden State Ballet is top-notch. You will not find a better school for the serious student of classical ballet. The students work hard and are rewarded with constructive feedback that really allows them to grow and bloom as dancers.
My daugther has been dancing for 11 years with the GSB Dance Company. She’s completely inlove with what she does and would not give it up for anything. The Nutcracker season is specifically her favorite part and it worries me that she along with all the other dancers might get a piece of that taken away due to funds.
The School of GSB has become the second home for my daughter in the past 8 years ( more to come) It is a very nurturing and safe place for the little ones and the older kids. Especially during Nutcracker season and summer camp I really like to see how much these kids, old and young with all different backgrounds gather, become a family and share the love of classical ballet. This is not a competitive school. The children learn to push themselves and further their dance skills. I'm glad we found this place for our girl.
My daughter has been going to GSB since she was 4 and truly loves attending it. This school is about learning the art of ballet and its technic. The students create a unique bond of friendship and strive for teamwork within each other. Ms. Jodi, director, teaches her students to push themselves towards excellence and provides coaching during their ballet practices. This school is highly recommended!
I have been dancing with the School of Garden State Ballet since I was 5 and I still continue to dance even though I graduated college, which proves how much I love GSB. I honestly don"t know where I'd be without Jody and her instruction. Growing up in a city like Newark, NJ my parents wanted to make sure that they put me in extra curricular activities that taught me discipline, dedication and nurtured my self esteem. Throughout the years this school became my safe haven and second home, where I'd join my dance friends and we would have a blast doing what we loved. I have so many wonderful memories at GSB, and have made lifelong friends and connections. Not to mention that at Garden State Ballet the instructors actually teach technique in a positive, non competitive environment. It's truly the best school to bring your son or daughter.
My daughter has been dancing at The School of the Garden State Ballet for 4 years. My older daughter who danced at another school found that she wasn't classically trained as her peers in high school and asked that I find a school that her younger sister will be classically trained. To my surprise there is a distinct difference in the quality of ballet and all dance schools are not created equally. If your child is serious about dancing, ballet is the foundation and Garden State Ballet is highly recommended by me. Ms. Jody and Ms. Alison are classically qualified trained teachers that mold each child to be their best. The older dancers take the younger dancers under their wings. They inspire and encourage them when things get tough.
Our daughter danced at a few different studios from the time she was 4 until she was 9 and then she decided she wanted to learn "real ballet". That’s when we found the School of the Garden State Ballet. She learned ballet technique, she learned discipline, she learned time management, she became part of the GSB family where everyone always cared about one another, she taught dance to a young group of dancers, she performed with the Youth Company and she worked with a local professional dance company. She was always encouraged to do her best. She always had the support of her director, her teachers and the other girls. When she left for college to pursue a degree in arts management our daughter was well prepared for the outside world.
She will always be a part of the GSB family even though she now lives in Chicago. She is no longer in the dance world but she is paying forward - she uses her social media and marketing skills to help Jody keep the school visible to the public. She was committed to GSB when she was a dancer and spent hours mastering the art of ballet; she is now committed to helping others receive the same amazing experiences she had. We are proud of her and know that GSB, it’s teachers and her fellow dancers all contributed to her being the person she is today.
She is one of the many wonderful girls who have danced through the studios of GSB.
My daughter has been learning classical ballet since the age of 4. I attribute this school for helping my daughter develop self-confidence and discipline. We are very blessed to have found this school so close to where we live. The school has a diverse student body. All the students are like one big family, everyone supports each other. It's worth the effort and time we put in for our kids! My daughter enjoys every minute!
My daughter attended GSB from the age of 5 until she graduated from High School. The classically taught ballet was tough - but worth it. She and all of the students who attend learn not only how to dance, but how to carry themselves, how to be responsible and caring people, and how hard work makes you strong in so many ways. The Nutcracker troupe was a particularly wonderful experience for my daughter [and for my husband and I] and solidified the strong bond of family that resonates at the school. I highly recommend The School of Garden State Ballet!
The School of the Garden State Ballet provides an excellent classical ballet education to an incredibly diverse group of students, young and not so young, from the suburbs to the inner city. The director and teachers are dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of dance and creating a special bond among the dancers in the GSB family. It's not just a school for many girls and young women (and at least one young man), but a home where they can learn and grow.
Our daughter attends the Rutherford studio and we're so happy with what she's learning, how she's learning, and the supportive (but challenging) environment she's learning in.
Both of my daughters are with GSB for last 3 years. My oldest (which is in 5th grade) is already asking about local colleges so when she grow up she can continue attend GSB.
my older daughter started here at age 4 after we had a traumatic experience the prior year with a for-profit dance school where every time you turned around they were trying to sell you something on the pretext of "but everyone else's kid will have one". We were invited to view a lesson and she was so enthralled that she started trying to answer the questions to the lesson that had been taught during the session. We were given information on where to get dance gear at a discount, no required costumes or shoes that had to be purchased from the studio. What a refreshing way of running a studio! She made friends and learned so much about dance and spoke all the terms correctly in french. When her little sister was young, she would beg to be allowed to start dance classes early but GSB held firm to their policy of not allowing her to start until she would be 4 in September, with their vast knowledge of toddler attention spans. While we were disappointed that our older girl eventually left ballet for the soccer field, her younger sister is still dancing and loving every aspect of it after 7+ years. They bring the kids together from all 3 studios, across age groups and builds teamwork, discipline and grace. She loves her ballet family and won't give it up for anything.
My daughter has been going to GSB since she was 6 years old. She is now 13 and will be entering high school next year and still loves it here. If your daughter really wants to be a ballerina and is serious about it, this is the place for you. The instructors are fabulous and have a wealth of experience and knowledge from years of both teaching as well as being professional dancers themselves. We love it here, we love the friends we have made here, we love the discipline that is given here. It is a welcoming place where all the dancers are encouraged to help each other thrive. Having high self esteem and healthy habits and not to be body concious are stressed. The best part about GSB is that your time is spent learning your craft and everything that goes along with making you safe and successful.
