Working as a mentor in scholar cc was an exciting experience because I got to watch and lead my mentees on the right path in preparation for their college careers. I taught them many essential aspects in many areas, such as; how to write a great resume, how to write a fantastic essay for scholarships, how to register for financial aid/ what you need to register for financial aid, and even where to go hunting for scholarships. I definitely had a blast helping my mentees because every time we meet up, I could see how excited there were to be there with me, but most importantly how motivated and ready to work they were. I also enjoyed working with the other follow mentors because they were all motivated as much as I was to help the mentees flourish into college. This experience overall was terrific, and I would definitely do it again!
I throughly enjoyed helping such a wonderful organization. Lynne and team are striving to make a difference in the lives of young people in the South Florida community.
As a mentor, I felt that my attentiveness and commitment made a contribution the overall success of the program. The first thing I recognized as a mentor is that my consistency is what matters most. Being there for the students and dedicated my time made me feel like I was giving back. I didn't have a program like this back when I was in high school and programs like Scholar CC put so much effort to ensure the success of high schools students who don't necessarily have the right resources to achieve their goals and dreams. I am a witness to how we as mentors, lead mentors, and mentees can come together, learn, and foster a community of growth. This is what made a difference in my life and others who participated in this program.
In our bi-weekly meetings we covered topics from college readiness to life skills such as managing a budget and checking/saving accounts. Also, the students had the opportunity to create or review their resumes and cover letters to prepare then for the job market. After, as a mentor, I held mock interview sessions with my mentees and provided feedback to them as well.
Scholar CC mentors and their organization's founder, Ms. Lynne Gassant, have offered my high school students much needed support that I can only value as priceless. They have made a positive impact on every mentee they have come into contact with over the past 2 years, and I have seen the results in the student's grades, attitude, self-confidence & overall passion for success in their lives. Because of the mentors, the students know they have someone keeping a watchful, caring eye on them, and they do not want to disappoint. As an AVID elective teacher for 7 years, I have had the opportunity to work with several student support programs. Because of the dynamics of unique qualities that each mentor possesses, and the professionalism of Ms. Gassant and her lead mentor, Alfred Mims, Scholar CC truly deserves the recognition as a GREAT NONPROFIT.
This organization is working extremely hard to make a difference in their community. So far they have 2 after school mentoring programs, one at Atlantic High and Boynton Beach High. They gave 4 scholarships this year to graduating seniors and I am sure they will continue this great work in 2016. Kuddos to you all!
Such a pleasure to be part of this dynamic organization! A diverse group of talented, passionate and formidable individuals-from the students that go above and beyond to connect with students and professionals, to the amazing mentors and board members who have committed to sharing their experiences and being a role model for the next generation of students. This group pulls together to address the needs of so many students, particularly English Language learners (ELL) who lack the guidance and resources to bridge the gap in social inequalities. They do so by providing ongoing coaching, personality and career assessments, homework completion review, financial literacy seminars, scholarships and helping with college applications. If you are passionate about making a difference, visit our website at www.scholarcc.com; Have a few hours to volunteer? join us!- if not, spread the word!
I love interacting with these students. My passion is with children and the youth and I love having an impact on them simply by sometimes sharing my personal experiences and knowledge.
Scholar Career Coaching is a positive influence on High School Students that wish to
receive assistance from mentors that have practical experiences in the workplace. As a
mentor, I can see the interest students have in finding the proper track to being accepted
in college. And to have contact with people from different walks of life and backgrounds is
a valuable experience for them.
ScholarCC is one of the small but mighty organizations that is doing invaluable work within Palm Beach County. Without a staff, their incredible group of volunteers work tirelessly towards the mission of mentoring these students. So much praise to the founder, Lynne, for sharing her vision and making it a reality here in our community!
Scholar Career Coaching has been making a huge difference in the lives of the youth in our community. Mentoring truly works! The guidance and motivation that the students receive from their mentors have a long-lasting impact in their lives. ScholarCC has accomplished so much in just 3 years and I am very proud of their achievements. I truly appreciate their dedication to empower our youth. Huge thanks to the board members and the mentors for continuing to coach, motivate and support our students.
Scholar Career Coaching started approximately 3 years ago and since that time has made a tremendous impact on the lives of high school and college age kids through offering assistance with mentorship, homework and counseling regarding their choice of colleges. As one of its first board members I have observed first hand, and with great pride, the organization's growth and development; its goal of excellence and its motivation to ensure that children, especially minority children, receive the help they need from committed and dedicated volunteers towards achieving their educational goals. I am extremely impressed with Scholar Career Coaching, its Founder, Lynne Gassant, its board members and its volunteers and wish this new but progressive organization all the very best as it grows from strength to strength.
I had the opportunity to share my experience with these young ambitious souls and the light in their eyes on Thursday always gave me my compensation at the end of our sessions. The fact that their biggest worry was if they did all their homework and if they were going to pass their vocabulary test was an envious matter and In my mind I'm like " they have no idea how free life is right now " (Literally Free) . My main students were both trying to convince their parents that they were leaving home for college. To old school Caribbean parents there is no such thing , being able to walk them through an effective way to communicate with their parents allowed me to live vicariously through them and hopefully reach a tangible end goal. Scholar Career Coaching aided me as a college student by lending a helping hand to young ambitious souls on their way to greatness.
As a mentor during the past school year, I have seen first-hand the incredible power that Scholar Career Coaching has tapped into by leveraging experienced business individuals as mentors. Also, they have identified a particularly deserving group to target for mentoring services - ELL students. These students excel when they have help navigating the language challenges that today's public school systems aren't equipped to address every day in the classroom. I have watched these wonderful young people blossom over the course of a school year into much more confident, productive, and high-performing students. Scholar Career Coaching deserves the credit for this.
Scholar Career Coaching is a great organization that is really trying to make a difference in the community. I have been a volunteer here for a month, and it has been a terrific experience, and I have really been able to see how much it means to not only the people that work there, but to the students that are getting mentoring that will hopefully offer them more opportunities in the future. It has been great to be able to help Scholar Career Coaching make a difference, and I have worked with some great people. I would highly recommend volunteering with Scholar Career Coaching.
ScholarCC is an amazing organization! The goal and vision is really inspiring. People at this organization are professional and have the knowledge, expertise, and the motivation to help other people.
This organization provides a bridge between the students and the professionals directly in their field. They are very excited to help these students and I can't wait to be a part of the team!
It's heart-warming to be involved with a group who is so passionate to make a difference in the lives of children. I am new to the Board but the level of commitment and hard-work is evident. I look forward to helping the organization grow so we can help more and more children.
Scholar Career Coaching is a wonderful organization which makes a difference and inspires hope. Every mentor impacts students' lives and provides them with the skills and resources to succeed regardless of their career goals. This past year volunteering with SCC has been a wonderful opportunity to see motivation, encouragement and support hard at work.
