Many deceptions and discrepancies that made the dog I took home unsuitable for my lifestyle. His bio said to take him everywhere because he loves everyone, and this was not true. He would growl, lunge and bark at people (and dogs) several hundred feet away sitting at tables ignoring us. His bio said 5 years old. When I sat down to see the paperwork it said 1-2 years. This dog was a puppy, not an adult. He bit you as you tried to strap him in the harness, not hard, and put everything in his mouths on walks. Like a puppy. I brought him back within a few days to honor their contract, and they are withholding over $100.00 for it. For blatantly deceiving me. I understand some dogs need time to adjust, but what adjustment happened from a dog that loves everyone to a dog who snarls at everyone? This is a shady organization who does minimal vetting. A few years ago I also received a dog who spun in circles and bumped into walls. They have volunteers, not paid staff despite the very profitable business model of taking dogs from shelters for 0-200 and reselling them for 400. Another warning I should have seen is even rhe volunteer did not want to strap him in the harness; she said he was "too wiggly."
Hi, my name is Jasper!
I still can't believe it. Just last Monday afternoon, I was huddled in a box on the side of a river, shivering, next to my drowned mom and two of my siblings. I thought I was a goner.
Then a young lady happened by and she peeked in the box. Before I knew it, I was on my way to a local supermarket where she worked and in the hands of some sympathetic staff that washed me and gave me some water and a bite to eat.
I was really bushed!
Then at the shift change, this really big and tall guy (whose name I found out later is Kaelan) wrapped me up in a towel and said he was taking me home. I was breathless.
He walked me into the house still wrapped in the towel and before he could utter a word, his mom, Miss Kelly, said "No way, Kaelan, we already have two dogs and five cats and a bearded dragon lizard. NO MORE PETS!" I was crushed!
I might add at this point that Miss Kelly is really a very nice, caring person but was really to her limit on pets.
The conversation continued as I slipped back into my shivering mode when I heard someone mention "dog pound"!
But then I heard another voice mutter, "NO DOG POUND! I'll take the little guy!" It was that Old Guy with the hair on his face who they referred to as "Pop Pop".
A reprieve! I was elated! I could sleep the night in comfort.
First thing Tuesday morning Miss Kelly was on the phone to Clemson Animal Hospital. They said they were booked but if I could be dropped off that they would fit me in during the day. So off I went. I got poked and prodded and stuck with sharp things, but they were very nice and they gave me some great food.
That afternoon, the Old Guy and his granddaughter, Devon, picked me up and swept me away to a place called Petco. A half hour or so later I walked out proudly with my new blue harness and leash. OG also picked up a crate, a doggy booster seat, a doggy seat belt, and a bag of chicken & brown rice puppy chow for when the bag that the vet's office gave me runs out!
Wow, life is good after all!
And Miss Kelly, Kaelan, Cyrus, Devon, OG, and countless friends and neighborhood kids treat me like a prince!
Thank you Saving Grace for allowing me to share my story!
Molly and her team have a real heart for all the animals at Saving Grace. They have made the
adoption process very efficient; and have included all shots, microchipping, and spay and neutering to be done for each animal, They also include all the necessary paper work for an easy transition of information to your own veterinarian after adoption. The grounds at the shelter have been beautifully landscaped, and it is good for both the animals and the potential adoptees who come to pick out a future family member. I highly recommend Saving Grace as that's where I found my wonderful boy.
