Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Puerto Rico has a terrible problem with animal overpopulation, abandonment, abuse, and neglect. Save a Sato seeks to help as many animals as possible to find better lives. We also work with local groups, vets, and the tourism industry to raise public awareness about the plight of animals and to encourage wide-spread spay and neutering of pets.

We volunteered at this shelter on our most recent visit to PR, the amount of animals in this shelter is overwhelming, so, so many animals living in cages.
We decided to adopt a puppy and bring him back home to the mainland. We were told he was checked by the vet, was even sent to the vet they use to get his last shot he needed.
We visited another vet to get his travel papers, last of his meds he needed and got a clean bill of health.
Brought him home on Saturday, today Tuesday we had to put him down, he was so sick and deteriorated so fast it was sad.
We texted with the vet to let them know what was happening so they could prepare and help the other puppies in the cage and never got a response, this tells me they really don’t care…a simple “thank you for letting us know” or “I’m sorry” but nothing.

I found my love of my life dog baby on a beach dead dog beach in Puerto Rico and I had her quarantine for 30 days with Gloria I ended up adopting her myself because of where I kept saying that's your dog that's your dog and she is the love of my life and she made 15 this September

I adopted Lilly at 3 months old in Nov 2022. Once she became 6 months I started taking her outside. She will see another dog, get sooo excited barking and then she COLLAPSED! I rushed her to the vet & he believes that she has seizures. The vet can't even understand why a dog will COLLAPSE when seeing another dog.
Now she is 9 months old & once again she saw another dog, she got extremely excited as I just stood back with the leach and then right in front of me she COLLAPSED, which I believe is another seizure. Besides that, her hind legs just seem so weird. They just are constantly bent, they don't look appropriate even though she walks & runs just fine. But generally I do not believe that these dogs are healthy, nor do I believe that these dogs are smart. With all the dogs I've had throughout the years ~~~ she has to be the most UNintelligent dog I've ever owned.

On top that is the oldest of all the organizations in P.R. is the most humble, noble, honest, and genuine, with the most beautiful mission of pure and unconditional love for all kinds of animals, without selectiveness like most do, with the most wonderful human being as founder, Gloria Marti, and an amazing staff of tireless and hardworking volunteers with the same vision, love and goal..saving, protecting and looking after hundreds of animals. Like Raquel Malaret and Arelis de León, among others. As a puertorrican I am so proud and honored to follow their titanic work, and above all, I admire and respect them with all my heart. Is a priviledge to have worked with them in different occasions, and to be able to call them my friends. No one like them. What they do is authentic rescuing. One that follows the most old, sacred codes and precepts to preserve their integrity and well being. Not to profit from them and their suffering. They live for the animals, not from the animals. Like it should be.

Save A Sato rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes animals. When I donate to Save a Sato, I know all of my money is going to care for animals. Our little girl Chloe (formerly "Diva") loves to snuggle in the sunshine and our family could not love her more! Thank you to Gloria and all of the Save a Sato organization.

I plan to adopt from Save a Sato when my Sophi passes away. The work they do helping so many animals in need is amazing. They take in dozens of stray or abandoned cats and dogs from the streets and house them in their shelter. They do their best to aid those defenseless animals in the worst of conditions. I always donate what I can because their load is tremendous and they count on the support of kind donors like myself.

I adopted my little dog Moby from a shelter in Gloucester, MA about 17 years ago. He was flown into Logan by this wonderful charity and proved to be the most heartwarming companion for almost 14 years, and loved by everyone who had a chance to know him.
I can't commend them enough for the tireless work they do to try to give abandoned animals a chance, I will adopt again from this organization when I no longer have to work full time. in them meantime, donate, send needed items, what ever you can do to help - they deserve it!!!

There was a dog with puppies that needed rescue. I convinced the homeless man to give me the dog with the puppies. I didn’t have a place for them and Save a Sato helped and picked up mom and the babies. Thank you Gloria.

Save a Sato has always been the light and hope for abandoned animales in PR. They make miracles with so little. They all put their hearts and souls in every and each one of the cases they recieve. Always giving the extra mile for animals in need. Regardles of what species they are. These people are not humans, they are angels. Support their mission and their cause.

Save a Sato rescues the street dogs of Puerto Rico and partners with other rescues in the United States to find homes for the tens of thousands of street dogs roaming the city. I adopted my mixed dog through a partnership between Save a Sato and As Good As Gold (golden retriever rescue of northern Illinois).

It has been a wonderful and supportive experience.
