Found a kitten I adored. Made an appointment to meet her. Fell in love and filled out an application to adopt. Was then presented for the next 3 weeks with hoop after hoop after hoop to jump through. I jumped through them all. It started with she had to meet EVERYONE in the household (no other shelter we've been to has that requirement, and with 6 people in the house, schedules can be hard, but we figured it out) and they had to fix her and there was a 3 day wait beyond that. Fine. Made sense. Then ALL of the animals needed to be up to date on vaccinations. Which I get. Again, fine, I made them all appointments. Then it was they didn't know if they could hold her until all of those appointments were done. I begged, since the appointments were the soonest I could possibly get and they agreed to hold her. When I filled out her application initially, I listed our dog Violet, our older cat Asimov, and Beelz (black kitten) because those were our current pets. With an application in on this kitten, I scheduled an appointment for our daughter to meet some other kittens because she wanted one as well. They initially had no issues with this and scheduled that appointment. The day of that appointment, we ended up adopting Pumpkin for our daughter, so I called to say we didn't need to meet other kittens, as we adopted one, but still wanted to visit the kitten I wanted, so she could meet all the other family members, per their policy. They didn't say ANYTHING about anything then. Today, I was told that they were "no longer comfortable" adopting her to us because we had 2 new kittens in the house AND because supposedly there is a 4 pet limit in our town... even though they didn't say anything a week before to any of that when they were informed of all of this. Add to that the fact that they called me 10 minutes before the pickup appointment KNOWING I had to drive an hour to get to them... We did check village ordinances and found they were correct in the limit, but also that exceptions could be made, and we called that office and have received permission for that exception in our household, but were still told that they would absolutely not adopt to us... so... I don't even know anymore. I'm extremely upset and keep crying and I can't in good conscience recommend them to anyone looking to adopt.

Mission: The sauk county humane society
Programs: The sauk county humane society took in 2,149 animals in 2017. Animal control took 455 calls, handled 106 bite cases, and impounded 377 animals. To ensure we do not have to euthanize healthy, adoptable animals, 220 animals were transferred to other shelters and rescue groups. We implemented bite prevention talks for over 2,000 school children at rural safety days and classroom visits throughout the academic school year. We attended community business meetings and informed over 150 business owners about the shelter's mission, upcoming spay/neuter initiatives, and services provided to the community. We published two newsletters and an annual report that were sent to over 5,000 households. The newsletters advertise the society's services to the public and provide eduation and outreach articles. We partnered with various local businesses for adopt-a-thon events, general humane education, and promoting the importance of spaying and neutering for all pets. We attended over 25 community events to increase awareness of humane treatment of animals and responsible pet care.
we assisted 33 individuals with veterinary services through the josh diehm memorial fund. To help owners who have fallen on difficult times keep their pets, three programs have been in place since january 2012: pet partership, safekeeping, and a pet food pantry. These programs help low-income county residents who are temporarily unable to care for their pets or who have emergency pet food or housing needs. These programs are deisnged to help residents keep their pets rather than giving them away
in an effort to curb pet overpopulation, the sauk county humane society operates the area's only low cost spay/neuter clinic. We spayed or neutered 849 cats and 104 dogs in 2017. We provide low cost vaccines for 50 cats and 27 dogs and microchipped 1 cat and 3 dogs.
