Causes: Agricultural Programs, Food
Mission: To advocate for farmers, ranchers and other land-based producers; provide equitable access to fresh, local food; own and operate a year-round venue for the santa fe farmers' market; and manage programs to help sustain a profitable, locally-based agricultural community.
Programs: To promote regional small farm and ranch operations through the following activities: 1) maintain a long-term venue for the santa fe farmers' market in order for farmers to engage in direct market sales; 2) local food for local kids program served over 500 youth through at market field trips, farmer talks, food samples, hands on activities, and tokens to spend at the market to teach them about healthy food and where it comes from; 3) promote the use of snap/ebt at the market and double all snap transactions. Nearly 200,000 in snap and doubling in 2017; 4) distribute microloans to vendors to provide access to capital to help expand farm capacity. Almost 30,000 in loans made in 2017; 5) offer scholarships to conferences and free workshops/trainings to farmers to assist in the improvement of their on farm and farm business activities; 6) produce market fresh cooking demos featuring minimal, seasonal ingredients to educate the community about simple ways to use market produce and to promote what is available at the market. Bilingual recipes provided. Over 2,000 samples given in 2017. 7) provide a gathering place for community and nonprofit events through the rental of the pavilion on non-market days.
