Mission: To connect businesses and individuals with schools and the organizations that serve them in order to help improve public education in ways that support a more vibrant economy, the health of our community and the well-being of local children and their families.
Programs: The computers for families (cff) program refurbishes used computers and places them into the homes of low-income 4th-6th graders every year. Cff is an award-winning program that seeks to bridge the digital divide that hinders low-income students from achieving academic success. This comprehensive program includes assistance accessing subsidized high-speed internet, training and ongoing technical support for teachers and families. To date, more than 11,000 computers have been distributed to local families in need.
the countywide volunteer program was designed in response to schools' needs for support from the community. Upon educator request, the program recruits, screens, trains and places volunteers from our community into k-12 schools and youth serving nonprofit sites across santa barbara county. Over 220,000 total hours of service have been coordinated and is valued at more than five million dollars. Major areas of service include: career days, guest speakers, mock job interviews, art/music/sports programs, afterschool programs, reading with students and tutoring/mentoring.
the paid job training and student internship program provides at least 60 low-income or disadvantaged high school students with a paid seven-week job readiness training program, and places them into paid 80 hour work experiences at local businesses and organizations. Business, nonprofit, and government agencies serve as host sites for these students, paying half the student wage and providing a professional mentor to support student growth. More than 500 students have been served by the program.
