I love volunteering at SCHS! They take the sad, scruffy babies who need the most help and give them a new chance at life. My SunnyD was one of those and just look at the difference it made from the day we rescued her to now, you can see her smile.

Ive been a volunteer, board member, and client over the years and I can attest that this organization is amazing! The board and volunteers work tirelessly to make lives better for the animals and people! They respond to requests for help from high kill shelters and pull out dogs no one else thinks can be saved, work with them, and match them up with just the right families for happy-ever-after stories. They help neighbors keep their animals with food or medical needs, they have a low cost barn cat program, have worked with medical students to provide large coordinated TNR programs, and have even provided urgent housing for pets who's people are at the women's shelter or deployed. The way the shelter is set up allows the animals lots of space, comfort, and enrichment. I fostered a Chihuahua who was so sick she didnt lift her head the first night but they knew she had a great heart. She's been mine for 2 years now and is the light of our family! We're so grateful for SCHS!!

I don't even know where to start, I have YEARS of amazing experiences with this Humane Society. My family has not only been adopted by numerous pets from here, but has volunteered more hours then we can count and served as board members. The staff is dedicated, professional and caring. The shelter is clean and the animals receive only the best care. Small and mighty comes to mind when I think of this shelter. They have done so many GREAT things in the past and I look forward to seeing so many more great things from them in the future!

Hi! My name is Sansa and I would like to tell you about this great place called the Sanilac County Humane Society. I’m actually a rescue from Puerto Rico but my family likes to volunteer at this place. I’m not always thrilled when my humans leave for the day to do this but when they get back I love hearing the stories about all my animal friends! And all the smells they bring home are so awesome!! Lol! I’m so happy there are amazing temporary care places for pets to be loved on and cared for until they find a furever family like I got. Us rescue pups have to stick together so I really don’t mind lending my human mom and siblings out once and a while so they can show the shelter pets what love is. Way to SCHS!!!

Our family had been looking for that special addition to our family when Myrtle became available at the shelter. It was love at first sight. The people are so kind and the animals are well taken care of. Such an inviting environment, Myrtle was an instant fit. We were so happy to take her home and make her part of the family.

When I was unable to keep my pet due to my declining health, these kind people took her in and made sure she received the best home. I was even able to connect with Suzy's new family via social media and see just how much her new family loves her. I was never made to feel like a bad person and that has made all the difference.

The kindest people work and volunteer here. As a rural community we have tons of barn cats/strays. Utilizing their tnr program has made a world of difference in the feral cat community. They are always willing to help with friendly kittens and assist with food when needed. A+++ organization.

It's hard to imagine our community without this. They do such good work from a very small facility. It needs a mega-donation to open the new building in Lexington. Open your hearts and your wallets!

So proud to be associated with this wonderful No-Kill shelter, where the welfare of the cats and dogs always comes first, and it's dedicated staff and volunteers, who make it work. No matter how difficult the obstacles they encounter they always find a way.

I have adopted a sweet senior dog and (at a later date) a sweet senior cat. Both were well cared for and the people there clearly cared about each and every furry baby. I've also attended various functions sponsored by the SCHS that were fun and well planned. They are a wonderful group that provides services and information to help many cats and dogs.

I have been volunteering at SCHS for 2 and a half years. Words cannot describe how happy I am that I chose to volunteer at one of the best shelters in the state ☺️ About a year ago I was volunteering and ran into this little cute senior boy, needless to say he chose me. They made the addition of Ryker to my family quick and amazing. These ladies are amazing!!! They care about the animals, especially seniors and special animals. Thank you for all you guys do!!

The SCHS has always been a love of my late mom. She always spoke so highly of the staff, the services provided, the community events and cleanliness of the facility. When my mom passed, my sister and I brought donations from friends and family to the shelter. We had a nice heart to heart with the lady working that day, and right before we were about to leave she asked us if we wanted to have some pet therapy. My sister and I got to sit in the middle of a pen full of adorable puppies who were ecstatic to get some scratches! My overall mood leaving the shelter that day was completely changed all by an act of kindness from that lady just going that extra mile for us!

I have been volunteering for 14 years at SCHS. It's a no kill shelter and we have a great group of volunteers. We all take pride in taking good care of our furry guests until they find their forever home. Our shelter is very clean, we all work very hard to keep it clean and odor free.
I adopted my "heart" dog from SCHS in 2006, her name was Bella and she had severe separation anxiety. Other volunteers always stepped up to help me with taking care of Bella when I needed to go somewhere and couldn't take her with me. I always knew she was in great hands with them especially when she was old. I adopted another dog earlier this year from a different organization and even though I love our new friend, the adoption process was not nearly as smooth as adopting from SCHS.

I Love our local shelter..The care, they put into the animals/pets. Is awesome. Can you Love as much as the workers do? All they want is to find homes for the pet's. To love them until a family steps in to share the love and take home a healthy pet. Sanilac County Humane Society works so hard...to find family who cares for the pets as SCHS would. ... I love them. For doing A job..some would find hard to do. Thank you for all you do for our community ,our pets our Families..

This shelter is amazing. They never give up on an animal. Even the ones that are so sweet until they turn on you and eat your toes (Autumn ). My teen children actually ask to go volunteer here. They always ask what dog we can foster. Best shelter around and best volunteers ❤️

I have been with this organization for many years now as a volunteer, former board member, volunteer coordinator. It has been a privilege to work with so many great people that have the same goals to help these animals get all the medical attention and find great new home and to help the community with low cost shot clinics and low cost cat program. Attached are former members that have found there forever home.

Sanilac County Humane Society changed my home. I went in looking to socialize a few kitties and fell in love. It wasn't 24 hours and I was back to adopt my new kittens. My once quiet home now filled with pounces, purrs and laughter. The people at there were friendly and helpful! I tell everyone to get their new kitties there!

You can't deny the passion and compassion every single volunteer, board member and supporter has for the animals at the Sanilac County Humane Society. All of the animals are cared for and loved immensely by all the helping hands at the shelter. The effort they are putting in to making the whole thumb region of Michigan a No-Kill area is remarkable. Being able to volunteer at SCHS has truly been a great experience! I look forward to seeing what this wonderful organization accomplishes in the future!

This no-kill facility is an excellent example of a care facility for our voiceless animals. The passion of its staff and volunteers is amazing. They are constantly raising awareness by hosting various community fun-raisers so they may provide the quality care for our furry friends. Any financial support would be waved in, just sayin!
