Mission: The Museum capitalizes on its location in historic Sandy Spring. As a former terminus on the Underground Railroad with Black families that have relatives in Canada, our mission comes to life. The Mission, Purpose and Objectives of the Museum are: - To focus on the heritage of Blacks from their origin in Africa through the Trans-Atlantic passage, the struggle for civil rights, and their accomplishments acrossthe African Diaspora; - To bridge the information gap and inform all ethnic groups - particularly those in Montgomery County - about the advantages of cross-cultural communication and diversity, as expressed through the arts and humanities; and- To display the significant contributions that African/African Americans have made in the building of America.
