Maple Hill found me the perfect friend to stay in my barn. Every day since Miss N connected us, I have been grateful for her! She really listened to what I wanted and needed, and knew just the pony who needed me. It was a perfect match made by Maple Hill Farm!! I still send her messages reminding her of how she changed the life for this lady and a handsome old Morgan pony. Thank you!!

I lost my last rescued mare after 7 wonderful years to old age, and was looking for a new “old” friend. I had a complicated situation, and my needs and wants were listened to and understood. Maple Hill connected me with MY perfect pony. He arrived March 2023, and he is a dream come true! Great therapy for my mother with Alzheimer’s, as well as for me as her caregiver. Thank you, Maple Hill!!

I visit there often, a peaceful place with well-cared-for horses, volunteers who tend them, good therapy animals, allowed to live out their lives while still serving... in parades! (for one).

This non profit sanctuary is just that! It is a place where the starved, disposable horses can find love, compassion and the chance to recharge and heal their body and minds. These sanctuaries and rescues need financial assistance to continue gifting these animals with newfound hope. If you visit the sanctuary don’t be afraid to offer to help out even if just for the day!
Thank you all from the depths of my heart …

Truly a blessing to the horse family world. When my brother fell ill suddenly and passed. No one was able to care for his beloved horses, Sanctuary at Maple Hill was there, no questions asked. They are a God send.

I am happy to support this organization as it works hard to make things better for horses and people. It is easy to see where the donations go in the recovering and retired horses and programs for disabled and needy people.
From the smiles and excitement shown on the faces of the Special Olympics equestrian team members, to the wonder at touching a real horse at an elementary school winter festival, it all take a lot of work and community support. They deserve your help.

My sweet boy is from Maple Hill. I believe he came from an auction and was at the sanctuary for five years. I meant to just foster, but I fell in love. I’m incredibly grateful they brought us together and that they continue to provide a soft landing for horses at risk. He is rather wonky and shouldn’t be ridden but we love him all the same! Nancy is extremely dedicated and always checks in on him. The horses are very loved at maple hill and well looked after ❤️

For more than ten years, this non-profit has been committed to making life better for horses in trouble. Whether it is bringing horses back to good health or finding new homes or providing a safe retirement, Maple Hill consistently delivers. I am always happy to donate and encourage others to donate, too.
I can see how my donation is put to work whether it is to buy hay, grain, medicine, or to help a horse get out of a bad place.

When life had some unexpected changes and I needed to rehome my horse, Maple Hill Farms was there to help. They couldn't take her in, but they stood by me, and helped me network and advertise her. They helped me find a nice family who was willing to keep in touch. It was a great relief to feel my horse found a safe and loving place to land.

My years volunteering at the horse rescue were meaningful and rewarding. The horses have difficult backgrounds and have been neglected or mistreated in the past. By giving them a second chance you make all the difference in the world for that animal. The Sanctuary at Maple Hill Farms gives them that chance to be rehomed.

Sanctuary at Maple Hill Farms has been a beacon of light for many years, for displaced horses, people going through hardship with no place for their horses to go, I cannot count them all. Without Maple Hill so much hope would have been lost for the horses and people who loved them. This has been no easy task and I applaud Maple Hill for staying the course through many difficult situations. They never give up. Ever. The awareness and public education on many levels of horsemanship cannot be beat. Thank you Maple Hill.

Year in and year out this organization fights hard and perseveres in their mission. They advocate for needy horses and also for people who may have slipped through the cracks or just need a welcoming place. Their programs bring both horses and people together with kindness and caring. They try to help in whatever way they can.
I am happy to be part of these efforts, and have also received their help. I wholeheartedly give support when I can. They are worthy and I hope this review helps them.
This year's greatest challenge will be hay. Due to late and poor crops, the cost has doubled. There is a donation link on this page and I hope a few people will join me in using it. Maple Hill could use the additional support and it always goes directly to horses and programs.

I volunteered at The Santuary at Maple Hill Farm for four years and found it very rewarding. The Santuary at Maple Hill Farm has rescued horses in need for for years and is very committed to making sure they have a loving and nurturing environment.
During their stay the rescued horses receive long overdue veterinary, food and comfortable bedding with lots of love. Many of the horses are there for months or years while they are being rehabilitated and this is made possible by compassionate donations.

Wow. Just wow. Everything about Maple Hill Farms screams that it is the best of the best when it comes to equine rescue and, to be honest, our family knows a thing or two about this area. As an officer of our state's draft horse and mule association, I've worked with a couple of draft horse rescues in the state to re-home the retired drafts of aging owners and our family has fostered numerous rescue horses, some at the point of severe starvation, for two other rescues until those court cases were resolved and the horses were rehabilitated and could be adopted out. Unfortunately, I also know of non-profit rescues which I would never recommend or work with. So when our very horse experienced daughter, Gabby, went to college in Maine (and missing our horses) and told me about an "outstanding" equine rescue where she had started volunteering, I was more than a little curious.

What I have found in the 4 years that Gabby (now a senior) has worked with Maple Hill Farms is that it is one of the best equine rescues we have had the pleasure to work with. Rehabilitating a malnourished or injured horse is not rocket science but it does require an almost obsessive attention to detail and a dedication to not rush the process. Maple HIll's founder, Nancy Cecil, has both of those traits in abundance but has also found it in the special partners who foster some of the horses as well. People like me. I know what it takes to rehab a horse properly and they do it right. But what really impressed me, what really puts them in an altogether league is the care they've provided to the horses with injuries that are much more difficult to "fix". These are the horses with psychological scars, the ones that were physically or emotionally abused, the ones who are frightened of people, who physically cringe or tremble at your touch, who don't trust, the ones who are so easy to put in the back pasture and forget about because they are physically healthy and content to be left alone. The Maple Hill team nurtures these horses every bit as much as any other horse, showering them with gentle love, slowly earning their trust and re-teaching them that human hearts are good. Sometimes it takes months, sometimes it takes years. Nancy and her team of volunteers truly see the diamond in the rough in every horse and work tirelessly to polish it to its greatest potential brilliance so they can find the perfect forever home and owner. If that is truly not possible, then they'll provide them that forever pasture but they'll still never give up. THAT is what makes an equine rescue truly outstanding. They are not only admirable, they are an inspiration and Nancy is at front and center with her wealth of equine knowledge, decades of experience, commitment to the community, extensive work with the Special Olympics Equine program and amazing love and care given to a particular, sometimes homesick, college girl who only gets to come home over Christmas and the summer breaks. :)

And so when Gabby graduates next May and we drive her truck back across the country, we'll also be hauling a trailer with one of Nancy's horses to her new forever home. Ours. Yes, we're not only admirers and volunteers, we're adopters as well. As part of her volunteering, Gabby got to know this big gentle mare when she arrived at Maple HIll, sweet and willing but severely malnourished. As she put on weight and Gabby began to ride her, she realized she was a perfect match for me (and her) - a horse who would enjoy riding trips into the back country, driving excursions, a little dressage and jumping and a big horse that would babysit our big, non-horsy husband/dad on the rare occasion that we talked him into riding with us. We basically needed a horse who was not only calm and gentle but willing to try anything. With my matriarch at 34 yrs old and my current Belgian/TB riding horse at 22 yrs, we had started the process of keeping our eyes out for a younger model who would likely be my last horse. As an avid equine driver, I also wanted to find the right horse while my big guy was still working well and could teach her things as her partner that I could not in the driving training I provide. Nancy knew us well and agreed that our home would be perfect for this loving mare in spite of the fact that she probably could have gotten more adoption fee from someone else. She puts the best interests of the horse before financial gain - that's what catapulted Nancy and Maple Hill Farms into my "best of the best" status. We are forever grateful and blessed to have gotten to know Nancy and her team and can't recommend supporting this great organization enough, either through financial support or through adopting one of their special horses.

I was introduced to Maple Hill Farms my freshman year of college. I was far from home, didn’t have many friends yet, and missed being around horses. I reached out to volunteer and the rest is history. I have been volunteering at Maple Hill for four years now, although covid threw a wrench in some things, and can’t say enough about how much I have loved my experience there. Not only is Maple Hill a welcoming and inclusive place, they take exceptional care of every horse that comes through the program. They truly care about each horse’s well being and do absolutely everything they can to help the horses they have and always do what is in the best interest of the horses. Not only do they do amazing work with and for the horses, but they also partake in activities such as special Olympics and therapy programs to bring horses and people together to help each other. I truly can not say enough about the work Maple Hill does and believe they are what all rescues and sanctuaries should strive be like.

I have enjoyed working with this organization for years. They really care!
COVID put a wrinkle in their public hours and some programs, but they found ways to reach out safely one on one. From welcoming visiting Senior Citizen and youth groups to helping a very young volunteer get to her first horse show, they live the rescue and sanctuary experience every day and make the best of whatever comes their way. The horses thrive under their care.
I hope my review helps them get more donations. I hope more people will Take a Horse to Lunch, and I hope Maple Hill will be able to have another Open Barn soon.

Maple Hill Farms welcomes both horses and people with kindness and caring. Whether helping to rehabilitate horses or offer a helping hand to people, they are there answering a need and calling within the community. The horses help make the connections and it's hard to describe the good feeling that happens when being among them.
When Covid-19 hit hard, Maple Hill continued to look after horses, but also added programs to help people with daily needs like food and clothing. They may have closed the barn to the public, but their hearts remained open.

I have known the founder, and been involved in helping horses rescued by this group, for the past several years. They are knowledgeable, passionate, and wise - in horse care, networking, fundraising, and assisting owners and horses for their best solutions. They also help the community where the live, including local groups of volunteers in their weekly functioning, both children and adults, and happily contributing to community events. This approach benefits an ever-widening circle of humans and animals. My only regret is that I don't live closer so that I could be more physically involved in helping. Long may they thrive - to assist equines, and the humans who love them.

The Sanctuary at Maple Hill Farms is all the right things. It's so refreshing to get to meet horses that make it to their second chance! The Maple Hill folks don't just patch them up, they heal them through and through. It takes so much commitment and fortitude to do what they do, not to mention the long hours and hard labor. Working alongside them as a volunteer is such an honour and privilege when I'm available and able, and I always leave my shifts reminded: they're still working, and they'll start all over again tomorrow. This is a great group doing great things, and every dollar that comes in helps horses. I have so much respect for The Sanctuary at Maple Hill and am so thankful for all they do for horses.

Sanctuary at Maple Hill, inc.

The Sanctuary at Maple Hill is an amazing organization. They help not only the horses, keeping those in their care in very good condition, but also strive to help horse owners and other equine rescues when necessary.
They have a strong community outreach program and are also involved with Special Olympics, teaching their special needs students the ins and outs of safe horse care, handling and riding.
Maple Hill has helped horses from Maine to Texas and beyond. They are always compassionate, yet realistic, not always an easy task. When a horse owner needs a helping hand for just a little while, Maple Hill has stepped up and provided that support. When another equine rescue can no longer keep it’s doors open, for whatever reason, Maple Hill has also provided assistance there as well, whether it be taking horses in or reaching out through their incredible contact network to rehome the horses.
Maple Hill is also willing to work hand in hand with other rescues for a common cause. This unfortunately is not a common occurrence. Hopefully their leadership in this area will catch on with others as well.
Through their tireless work, The Sanctuary at Maple Hill has helped hundreds of horses, enabled owners to keep their beloved pets, provided respite for other owners when their horses needed a place to stay while facilities were being repaired, and made many, many people happy with their adopted horses. Their Special Olympic program is growing, providing wonderful opportunities for all involved, all the while learning in a fun, yet safe environment.
After working with them for the last several years, I simply can not say enough good things about them. The Sanctuary at Maple Hill Horse is truly a blessing for many, humans and equine alike.

I've worked with Maple Hill for close to ten years. I've watched the rescue grow and extend their reach, educating themselves, learning best practices and spreading knowledge and compassion not only in their community but nationwide.
I am so pleased although not surprised to see their good work now as humanitarians.

This rescue sets the bar for what a horse rescue should be. It's not just about rescuing and educating on horse slaughter. It's about making your scope broader to help humans and horses make a better world.

Keep up the great work!

The Founding Director of Maple Hill Farm is someone I have known quite well for several years and have worked with in rescue assistance for several years as well. I know many of the sanctuary horses who live at Maple Hill Farms from being directly or indirectly involved in the work needed to get them safely in the care of Maple Hill Farms Sanctuary. Many of the horses were last minute saves from auctions frequented by killbuyers and these horses were the most high risk because of age, injuries, or uncureable (but treatable) conditions. The injured and aged ones were most likely never going to be adoptable, but they were never turned away by the Director of Maple Hill Farm where they have a comfortable and caring home and the medical care they need for their remaining life. Many of the horses thru the years have also been owner surrenders where their owners either passed away or became medically unable to care for them, and again I have never known a horse to be turned away no matter how tight it is for space or finances. I've been much involved in assisting this organization for some time now with fundraising, searching for and evaluating other types of funding, such as grants or sponsors, (very seldom available these days) and offering assistance wherever it is needed. For all the personal sacrifices made by the Director to first care for the horses of Maple Hill before caring about herself I give the Organization & the Director a rating of 5 stars.
