Mission: San Francisco Network Ministries is devoted to the people of the Tenderloin with whom we work cooperatively for the empowerment of all, proclaiming good news for the poor and seeking liberty for those who are oppressed. We believe that everyone has been given gifts for the common good, and we seek to draw out and affirm those gifts through personal, face-to-face ministry.
Programs: Computer Training Center The Computer Training Center offers formal classes and open computer access to adults and children from the Tenderloin. We provide training on state-of-the-art machines in basic word processing, spreadsheets, and other Office programs necessary to succeed in today’s job market. We allow those who would be shut out of the information age access via e-mail and the Web. For children, we provide a safe place to explore educational software programs and learn skills such as creating web sites. All services are free of charge to the homeless and Tenderloin residents. Ambassador Hotel Ministry Each weekday afternoon, "The Listening Post" at the Ambassador Hotel provides residents with a place to go and share what’s on their minds. A corps of volunteer chaplains helps build community among the residents and provides moral support and spiritual uplifting. It is estimated that more than 80% of those who call this bleak place home have HIV or full-blown AIDS. Family Residence In partnership with Asian Neighborhood Design, we have constructed 38 apartments for the working poor. This award winning design combines utility with beauty, emphasizing our belief in the need to give dignity as well as aid to the poor. Programs for residents include tutoring for youth, monthly outings for the boys and girls clubs, ESL training, citizenship preparation, computer access, and counseling to aid residents in breaking out of the cycle of poverty. A Safe House for Prostituted Women SafeHouse enables women to escape prostitution and build constructive, productive lives. The program provides residency with 24 hour staffing and comprehensive counseling, health, educational and vocational programs. It is one of only five such programs in the US.
