Causes: Environment, Environmental Beautification
Mission: Clean city is a non-profit established in 1991 to focus on cleaning, greening and beautifying the city of san francisco. Our mission is to build bridges between quality of life resources and the neighborhood groups, merchant associations, and residents that need them. Clean citys organizational objectives are:- to encourage people to maintain, improve and take ownership of their neighborhoods. - to provide transitional and on-going employment opportunities for neighborhood improvement activities. - to prioritize the training and employment of low-income people through our work in san francisco neighborhoods. - to promote leadership for beautification, long-term maintenance and environmentally supportive efforts in san francisco. - to provide community education and resources.
Programs: Neighborhood resources: fiscal agency/ technical support, gigantic 3, giant sweep program and other activities: sf clean city partners with recology , the department of public works, and goodwill industries for the gigantic 3 program, which brings large debris boxes for recycling, composting, bulky items and garbage to a location in each san francisco supervisorial district once a year. Clean city coordinates the partners of these events and provides crews to assist the public with separation of items and promote waste diversion information. In 2017, the gigantic 3 program diverted over 120 tons of material from the landfill. In coordination with the community clean team and gigantic 3 program, in 2017 we continued our partnership for with the giant sweep program, which partners with the department of public works and the sf parks alliance to increase volunteerism and develop innovative programs around cleaning, greening, beautification. Clean city provides fiscal agency and technical support to cleaning, greening, and beautification projects that improve the quality of life in san francisco neighborhoods.
clean city services: sidewalk cleaning operations, graffiti abatement, special event clean-up, landscaping, recycling and re-use efforts: clean city services operates as a social enterprise offering landscaping, steam cleaning and power washing, graffiti abatement services, and special event clean-up and recycling. Clean city services generates revenue for the agency while promoting our mission and creating employment opportunities for low-income individuals. Annually, approximately 75 transitional employees are paid an hourly wage to perform community improvement activities such as street sweeping, graffiti removal, neighborhood greening, community recycling events, and targeted waste diversion.
clean city training: clean city partnership program, employment readiness and job training: clean city partnership program and green city program provides transitional employment, job readiness, training, and job placement assistance to homeless, formerly homeless and very low-income men and women through community improvement projects in san francisco. In 2017, approximately 50 clean city partnership program participants attended employment readiness workshops that include resume writing, interview techniques, job search strategies, and basic computer skills.
