Mission: The mission of San Francisco Ballet is to share our joy of dance with the widest possible audience in our community and around the globe and to provide the highest caliber of dance training in our School. We seek to enhance our position as one of the world''s finest dance companies through our vitality, innovativeness, and diversity and through our uncompromising commitment to artistic excellence based in the classical ballet tradition. As the fist professional ballet company in the country (founded in 1933), San Francisco Ballet is committed both to preserving the masterpieces of the past and providing audiences with the excitement of world premiere performances.
Programs: The Company presents approximately 35 performances of Nutcracker and 76 repertory performances annually, reaching a total audience of more than 225,000. National and international touring engagements during the past 10 years have taken the Company to such places as the Far East, Paris, London, Barcelona, Santander, Hawaii, and New York City, garnering rave reviews. San Francisco Ballet School, which attracts students from around the world, trains approximately 300 students annually. In addition to filling the ranks of the San Francisco Ballet, graduates have gone on to join distinguished ballet companies throughout the world. The Company's $13.8 million facility, the first ever created to expressly house a major dance institution, offers 17,120 sq. ft. of rehearsal accommodations for the Company and the School. Community outreach activities provide an introduction to the world of ballet and the performing arts to hundreds of San Francisco school children.
