Mission: The mission of the san diego lgbt community center is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities providing activities, programs and services that create community, empower community members, provide essential resources, advocate for our civil and human rights, and embrace, promote and support our cultural diversity.
Programs: Community programs include discussion and support groups, the hillcrest youth center, the sunburst housing project, latino/a services, senior services, women's resource center, volunteer services, family matters, hiv prevention, hiv and hcv testing, the young professionals council, the community leadership council, engage and the david bohnett cyber center. During the 2017 fiscal year, the center's community programs provided over 65,000 service visits, including information, referrals, activities and services.
behavioral health services. Since 1989, the center has provided counseling services to the lgbt and hiv communities in san diego county. Services include individual, couple, family and group counseling; the relationship violence and treatment intervention program; substance abuse counseling; transgender counseling; senior counseling; the heidorn crisis hotline; the professional and intern training program; and crisis counseling, information and referral. During the 2017 fiscal year, the center provided over 7,070 hours of counseling to 943 clients.
hshb: the center administers monies that fund certain positions at the hiv, std and hepatitis branch of public health services for the county of san diego. Specific functions include support for the ryan white health services planning council and its committees, hiv/aids services planning and analysis, hiv prevention services planning and analysis, quality management and coordination of training. During the 2017 fiscal year, the center's staff assisted with the unification of the hiv health services planning counsel and the hiv prevention group, ensured the availability of simultaneous language interpretation to allow monolingual spanish-speaking consumers a voice in the allocations process, and continued deployment of the aries project.
