Mission: San Diego Habitat for Humanity's mission is to eliminate substandard, poverty housing from our community. We work in partnership with families to build new homes, rehabilitate existing homes and make affordable homeownership a reality for people in need in our community.
Results: San Diego Habitat for Humanity has built over 130 homes in San Diego County since 1987. Come and help us build more by volunteering at our construction sites!

Programs: Habitat homes are are not given to families; families purchase their homes through no-profit, 0%-interest mortgages. Homeowner families invest 250-500 hours of their own labor, called "sweat equity," in the construction of their homes. Through this approach, SDHFH offers families a "hand up" restoring the hope and dignity that poverty housing can strip away. In addition to building approximately 20 houses a year in San Diego County, our affiliate also offers new homeowners classes on home maintenance, budgeting and other pertinent issues. We also operate the ReStore, a building materials outlet store. The ReStore operates through in-kind donations from local contractors and builders, and typically sells new and used building materials for 35-75% below retail. All ReStore profits are recycled directly to build more Habitat homes. In addition, the ReStore is an environmentally friendly organization, promoting recycling and reuse.
