Mission: The foundation is a voluntary grassroots organization dedicated to providing essential information and support for brain tumor patients and their families. The organization provides financial support, education and other services to these individuals.
Programs: Direct financial assistance: the organization provides financial grants to patients and their families to cover treatment related and system management expenses, including chemo therapy treatment, medical bills, short term financial support for housing, 2nd opinion medical support and prescripton cost assistance. Thirty four families received $67,099 in direct financial support to assist with their medical, transportation and living expenses.
educational assistance and support groups: to help client patients stay abreast of advances in the treatment of brain tumors, the san diego brain tumor foundation maintains contact with a network of health care professionals including neurologists, radiation oncologists, neurosurgeons, neuro-pathologists and oncologists. Sdbtf works closely with doctor santosh kesari, md-phd and director of neuro-oncology at the moores ucsd cancer center. Ongoing monthly support group sessions conducted by professional facilitators provide needed comfort, emotional support, information and encouragement to brain tumor patients, family members and caregivers. The organization provides two support groups per month.
