Programs: Of the comprehensive services offered by samaritan house, rapid re-housing is one of the most effective ways to move homeless families and those fleeing from violence to stability. Rapid re-housing places a high priority on moving a family or individual quickly to permanent housing using a variety of strategies. Participants utilize housing locators that match them to housing opportunities within their desired living location. Subsidies are provided to qualify participants and assist with their deposit and first few months of rent until they are able to be self-supporting.
emergency shelter is provided at samaritan house to homeless families and those fleeing domestic/sexual violence, stalking or human trafficking. Eight emergency shelters are scattered throughout the city of virginia beach in confidential locations and provide a safe haven from victim's perpetrators. 289 adults and their children were provided food, clothing, transportation, medication, counseling, support group and other services through case management while residing in emergency shelter. Case management is provided through a team of staff assigned to each household. Child and adult case managers assist with overall family needs while victim advocate to assist them with safety planning and any legal matters, such as assistance with obtaining a protective order, criminal charges, and filing for custody and/or support as needed. Housing locators are also assigned while households are in emergency shelter and immediately start matching them to permanent housing solutions.
the children's center of excellence provides support services to children exposed to violence. Each child that is referred through the community or the residential program is assessed with evidenced based tools to determine if they are in need of therapeutic services. Assessments look for developmental delays and deficits as well as trauma symptoms from exposure to family violence. Each child that reaches the threshold for services is referred directly to a provider based on their needs. In addition, advocates provide the transportation and samaritan house will provide the fees if services are not covered by insurance. Children are also provided case management to ensure they are in good health, are enrolled in school and have appropriate child care when needed.

I'm Barbara Rogers an author and survivor of domestic violence. I have shared my stories on how I counseled many people from their abuser and helped them on the road to recovery. Which is safety first and proper planning in place. I am adamant about helping many people as I can. I have published my life story on domestic violence. I have spoken on domestic violence and I answered many questions, from many people who want to know why the abuse happened to them and their loved ones. I take two hours out of my day to answer any questions. I have volunteered at the samaritan house and I have donated and intake experience.
