As a donor and an employee, I am proud to work alongside and support the board and staff of this organization. Everyone here works very hard to provide all our clients with the best possible service. Five of our counselors are close to completing Basic Training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) to serve persons suffering from experiences of trauma. This will enhance our trauma treatment program. Grants and donations help support the work and mission of our non-profit organization--it is money well spent on the people for whom we care. Review from Guidestar
I was shocked at the treatment that my mother received at the hands of this organization. The patients are vulnerable; the staff is poorly trained and abusive. Among the soundbites my mother and our family was treated to:
* "You are fat and no one will every want you this way. It's probably why your husband decided to divorce you." [my mother was being counseled following an abusive divorce and domestic violence-induced depression]
* "Sometimes death is the best option. When you are with God, all suffering ends." [we were speechless]
* "You will never get better." [unclear what type of therapeutic effect this remark is supposed to have]
* "Your mother should feel more guilt than she does for leaving her marriage without having first checked with her religious advisors."
We've heard similar concerns from others who were unlucky enough to be subjected to this organization's services.
Big Warning: The so-called counselors at this nonprofit are ill-trained, there are few to no controls on the more abusive counselors among them, and the damage can be worse than the dangerously low-quality assistance being rendered. Steer clear and invest in higher-quality therapy than provided to the most economically vulnerable members of our community.
The SCC does amazing work while stretching every dollar. The counselors are dedicated and the staff never miss an opportunity to help this important mission. You are always met with a smile!
I can speak to the quality of the services SCC provides from the perspective of having attended case conference and training seminars, which aided my minstry and work with other people. I have made referrals for those who were in need of professional assistance for their personal life with positive results.
I have been involved with the Samaritan Counseling Center since 1983, when it first came to our community and was sponsored by my church. It has been a wonderful resource for our small-ish community and all the staff and counselors are folks of high integrity and sincerity. I do not hesitate to recommend it to anyone and everyone. Being a member of the Board continues to be a high privelege and is truly a meeting that I look forward to!
In my short time with the Samaritan Counseling Center, I have met all the staff who are kind and considerate individuals and very knowledgeable in their fields. They care greatly for their clients and administer compassionate therapy while being sensitive to their clients spiritual values--a rare find in society today. I would not hesitate to use the service myself if I ever need therapy.
