I am very familiar with the Salvation Army. But did not know until I became ill, of the many services they provide to help families in need. I fell onto some hard times after recovering from cancer. As a single Mom. my child and I depend solely on my income to get by. My income alone was not working. I became desperate, depressed, and fearful of losing the shelter, we called home. Someone informed me that the Salvation Army had services to help those in need. Before long the food pantry, clothing allowances, coats, and many other services helped me to be able to provide for my child, and myself. I cannot thank the Salvation Army enough. My kid had Christmas presents under our tree thanks to them. My child had a brand new warm winter coat thanks to the Salvation Army. Good food to eat. And I as a single Mom, don't have to feel so ashamed anymore. People don't realize when you experience financial difficulties that there is a copious amount of shame that accompanies your low income. Because of the Salvation Army, I was able to keep food on the table, and not have my child worry about not being warm, or wonder why she had the same meals every night. My health is better, and I now have a goal to return to work in the Spring. I know I could not have reached this goal of returning to work without the Salvation Army's services. Because the stress of being poor, did not help me recover from the cancer, as stress is a carcinogine. I LOVE THE SALVATION ARMY !!!! When I return to work, I will also be one of the people who contributes to the Salvation Army. And also encourage other's to do so. I plan on giving back, and I thank God for eveything the Salvation Army has done. I am more than GRATEFUL for the Salvation Army. I AM BLESSED! - Anonymous
