Mission: The mission of the salt lake city bicycle collective is to promote cycling as an effective and sustainable form of transportation and as a cornerstone of a cleaner, healthier, and safer society. The bicycle collective provides refurbished bicycles and educational programs to the community, focusing on children and lower income households.
Programs: See schedule o. The bicycle collective makes cycling available to people of all races, incomes, genders, and abilities for a healthier community. 2014 was an especially amazing year here at the bicycle collective - every single program of the slcbc expanded, meaning that thousands more residents of the wasatch front community have been provided the space, education, tools, and materials to care for their bikes. Our ogden location spent the entire year renovating, we can't wait to get back to fixing bikes and teaching in our new building. An overview of 2014: -we had 2,837 bikes donated to the slc shop alone, up from 1,800 in 2013. -we gave away 1,443 bikes through our goodwill programs. -414 kids graduated from earn-a-bike, each with their own bike, lights, locks, helmet, and patch kit. - trips for kids took a record 316 kids on their first mountain bike rides. For the first time we were able to take each earn-a-bike student on an enabling graduation ride, over doubling our trips for kids numbers to 730. -due to the most successful bike prom to date, we were able to expand operations at the slc shop this summer to being open longer hours and 7 days a week, with 5 open shop days. This expansion was sustainable and we plan to do the same next year. We helped 6,120 people in our open shop, and sold 984 bikes, with the help of 648 unique volunteers. Through all our programs, we refurbished 2,427 bikes for the community. -our valet bike parking dealt with a huge number of bikes in 2014, parking 11,017 bikes at 81 events this year. -the long-awaited ogden shop renovation is nearing completion, and we plan to hire a full-time director to expand our programs there to a new level. -the university of utah collective has been open this semester regular hours three days a week, we got a great new team running that program and introducing college students to self-sufficiency on their bikes. We are proud that our nonprofit generates revenue through our community bike shops, but our most important programs, like earn-a-bike and the goodwill program, are free to their participants.
