Causes: Environment, Environmental Education
Mission: Salmon valley stewardship works to promote a sustainable economy and productive working landscapes in the salmon river region of central idaho, which leads to: 1. Initiate and coordinate community involvement. 2. Build awareness of sustainable uses of natural resources. 3. Facilitate and coordinate partnerships and collaborative efforts.
Programs: Assisted the people of lemhi county with community solutions for sustainable uses of natural resources that are economically, socially, and ecologically viabile by completing the following: 1. Co-sponsored lemhi county rural subdivision workshop 2. Co-sponsored river of words poetry workshop - connecting kids to their watersheds and their imaginations through poetry and art 3. Co-sponsored 40th anniversary of the wild & scenic river act conference 4. Established salmon river recycling as svs sub-committee 5. Hosted sustainable ag group 6. Participated in lemhi county development code p&z meetings 7. Coordinated lemhi county forest restoration group meeting and field trips 8. Established blm travel plan working group to assist the blm in their travel plan efforts 9. Provided technical assistance with the hughes creek biological assessment permits 10. Coordinated efforts to inventory aspen stands 11. Stream restoration project completed at hughes creek 12. Launched salmon local foods network 13. Usda awards svs grant for farmers market promotion 14. Epa awards svs environmental education grant 15. Earth day celebration continues with the support of svs 16. Sponsoring the farmers market 17. Svs awarded rac 2010 funds for hughes creek multiparty monitoring and aspen inventory 18. Svs board, staff, members partnered w/ youth employment program to improve trail in north fork ranger district. 4 volunteers contributed 48 hours of trail work (toni, russ, dave, adam earl). 19. Monitoring team completed27 fixed and variable in designated old growth stands established four monitoring plots in the diamond timber sale area, and six photo points in the saltzer bar prescribed burn area 20. Aspen team inventoried 15 separate stands in the breaks and 30 in the salmon fmu 21. Riparian workshop hosted in conjunction w/ idfg and others; svs gets idaho real estate commission certified education provider status(august) 22. Svs secured contract for blm travel plan education outreach 23. Svs promoted and hosted an aspen photo contest event (january) 24. Svs helped with the black rock cleanup attended by 10 volunteers (may) 25. Harvest celebration a sold out event (october) 26.
