There are consistent problems with some on the staff that cause patient harm. I've experienced "social workers" who were allowed to put my life really at risk making medical decisions or restricting access to additional life saving care. My life was threatened by these actions. I've also experienced Emergency Department misdiagnosis that was life threatening when I had necrotizing pneumonia. Because of social worker involvement in the treatment adequate medical care is often obstructed. This has happened on at least three different occasions. It is not at all clear why social work staff has any need for involvement in acute care situations where there potentially life threatening circumstances. Nursing care in general is adequate to good, but a limited number of staff do not provide good care and have caused harm.
