I have served on close to a dozen large and small nonprofit boards over the last 25 years. I can say without hesitation that serving on the board of Safe Space Radio (SSR) has been one of the most rewarding board service experiences for me. We are a small but mighty organization that never ceases to do the public health work that many shy away from. SSR explores issues that involve stigma and shame- topics that keep people isolated and in despair. We always receive feedback from our listeners saying they found the program to be an oasis of hope and an educational turningpoint. For those who listen about issues for the first time, they report a deeply moving experience of increased empathy and sometimes a significant shift in their world view about topics such as depression, racism, asylum seekers and much more. These radio shows epitomize the experience of "driveway moments". I do not ant to stop listening to each program once I begin.
