Mission: The Sacramento Valley Conservancy (the Conservancy) was founded in 1990 on two basic principles: open lands are necessary for quality of life and we must care for the land today so future generations may enjoy its physical and spiritual benefits tomorrow. The Sacramento Valley Conservancy’s mission is to preserve the beauty, character and biodiversity of the Sacramento Valley landscape by protecting and stewarding natural and working lands, and scenic open spaces for the benefit of current and future generations.
Direct beneficiaries per year: in 2020 2,100 students got outdoors with the SVC's YES -Youth, Stewardship and Education Program
Geographic areas served: greater Sacramento area
Programs: SVC has protected almost 18,400 acres as of 2020. We have: just recently acquired the Elkhorn Basin Ranch along the Sacramento River, the 4062-acre Deer Creek Hills property in the East Sacramento County Blue Oak Woodlands & Rangeland Legacy Area, protected 2000 acres out of a 3000 acre vernal pool preserve planning area, helped to acquire over 350 acres to create an over 60-mile regional trail loop in Sacramento and Placer Counties on the Dry Creek Parkway, helped facilitate ag-land preservation in south Sacramento County near the Nature Conservancy's Cosumnes River Preserve facilitated neighborhood parks purchases, like the Fair Oaks Bluffs along the American River. Priority Projects- to work with ranchers to protect more property in the East County oak woodland area of Sacramento County. To protect and care for more rare vernal pool habitats. To protect more creek corridors. To provide access to our preserves for inner-city youth. To restore river habitat along the Sac River. We sponsor outdoor events at our sites each year, including vernal pool/botanical walks, tours of riparian oak forest. We also host our annual Treasures of the Valley community event with wine, beer, jazz, art, local restaurant fare and fun getting together with friends.
