Causes: Arts & Culture, Arts Education, Music, Symphony Orchestras
Mission: The mission of the sacramento region performing arts alliance is to perform quality symphonic music and opera for the greater sacrameno region through live professional performances and community engagement initiatives that inspire, enrich, and excite our community.
Programs: The merged organization offered its second full season under the new operating model. The season once again included six classical and three pops performances, with the final performance of the season, a dramatic concert version of puccini's "la traviata", selling out the 2,350 seat community center theatre. The organization performs live professional symphonic music and opera for the sacramento region and provides live music for the sacramento ballet. Additionally, the organization continues to provide both public and private schools with music education programs, serving thousands of children, many of whom live in underserved areas.
the sacramento region performing arts alliance partnered with the weill music institute at carnegie hall to bring their national program, link up, to sacramento. Link up is a music education curriculum designed to teach third through fifth graders via their classroom teacher, throughout the school year. This program fills the void left by the loss of music education programs in public schools. Nearly 5,000 students from area school districts were able to participate this season. 90% of these students are from title 1 schools. We were able to include 25% more students this year and we continue to grow this program for future years.
in partnership with the city of sacramento, the organization expanded outreach to the community by offering a series of "pop-up" creative concerts in public spaces with no admission costs. These free concerts are aimed at engaging the sacramento community in music, through performance and participation in our "instrument discovery zones". The program touches on all of the council districts with a specific focus on revitalization of the "promise zone", a high-poverty community designated within the city of sacramento.
