SDC helped me grow as a game developer and gave me the opportunity to become a leader in the Sacramento community guiding youth and adults in their game making journeys. Building their discord server and meeting countless amounts of wonderful developers was invaluable. Our community is more connected than ever, even in pandemic times. I definitely would not be the creative I am today without my time as a Board Member here and I'm sure the opportunity I had to influence locals would be similar on their own paths. The SDC community is worth your time.
Sacramento Developer Collective provides and cultivates inclusive spaces for developer feedback, community, game jams, and education. Please reach out to them to partner, collaborate or participate in any game development needs you have in the broader northern California region.
The SDC was a massive part of my early game development life and helped me build lots of skills necessary to becoming a successful developer at a AAA studio. Being able to share knowledge with other local developers, collaborate on projects, get playtest feedback, and share resources was incredibly helpful. And learning skills and hearing stories from experienced full-time developers in the educational workshops also helped me build skills to be a successful developer and move from indie games to AAA projects.
I strongly recommend the SDC to anyone in the Sacramento area looking to take themselves and their games to the next level.
I've always wanted to dive into game design but didn't really know how, but then I got roped into the organizing end once I got involved with the Sac State Game Dev Club. After getting into setting up game jams and really growing the community, SDC reached out and asked if I would like to be apart of a larger community scale. I gladly joined on and now I've been apart of networking and growing more resources to make it more available for our local public. It's just so rewarding to see students and local professionals work together in workshops and game jams, and even see people growing their skills to get prospective jobs in the industry! We know it can be really competitive, so it's really engaging to see how people dab into it as hobbyists casually, or more into the professional career path. Whichever route they go, I'm proud to be apart of SDC to be pushing out opportunities like this.
I can't thank the Sacramento Developer Collective enough for getting me to finally pursue my passion for game development. I had always flirted with the idea of making this my career, and it wasn't until my first event with the SDC a fews years ago that pushed me in the right direction. The community they have developed is wonderful, and the support system that they have cultivated is invaluable. From the developer showcases to the educational seminars, I am so lucky that I have found SDC!
The SDC has been a huge help for meeting people in our area and getting teams together for events and projects. I have published a number of games that would not have happened if this group was not there. I was so impressed that I decided to volunteer my time and join the organization. I have high hopes that the group will continue to mentor young developers and help get games published.
I volunteered with the growing Sacramento tech & gaming community serving as the Vice Chair of the International Game Developers Association – Sacramento Chapter and co-organizer of the Sacramento Indie Arcade from 2013-2018. The purpose of this collective is simple: To create opportunity for developers and designers, both aspiring and veteran, to connect and empower one another within our up and coming Sacramento game industry! We have accomplished this goal over the last 11 years and will continue to do so with the formation of the Sacramento Developer Collective.
