My teen son and I have been with RVR for just under a year, but are treated like we have been there for years. I have volunteered at other non-profits before, but this one is by far my favorite! They have been the most welcoming, the most organized (which helps the volunteers more than you know), and the most caring. This is an ALL volunteer run organization and they bust their butt to care for these horses and to train us to care for them. It has been such a blessing to be there, not only for me but for my son as well. We both suffer from mental illness and he also suffers with other issues (Aspergers, P.A.N.D.A.S, ADHD), and having this place has given us such relief! I will volunteer here for as long as they let me

Although I live many miles away, I have been to RVR several times. I have three family members who are very involved at RVR. I have never met so many compassionate and committed volunteers at one organization before. I have seen firsthand the care they give their horses and donkeys and the joy they get from volunteering. I have also unfortunately experienced the sadness and devastation they feel when what all they have done has not been enough. I would give RVR ten stars if they were available. I would also recommend if you are looking for a place to volunteer to check RVR horse rescue out. You won’t be sorry.

Unfortunately I live too far away to be able to volunteer at RVR horse rescue. I have visited several times and I have family who volunteer many many hours there and who have adopted a horse and a donkey. I have met several of the volunteers and the owner and I have never seen more dedicated and loving individuals toward their animals than these people. They go so far above and beyond to make sure these horses are taken care of with lots of love and strictly from donations. I would urge anyone who would like to donate to a worthwhile cause to make RVR horse rescue that cause.

RVR Horse Rescue is undeniably remarkable! The neglected horses here are given a second opportunity to experience love and proper care from the dedicated volunteers at RVR. Without a doubt, the entire RVR team plays a vital role in saving the lives of these magnificent horses. This place is a beacon of light in the community.

I became a volunteer at RVR over 11 years ago. I have always loved horses although I have never owned one. My past experience with taking riding lessons taught me a little about the personality of horses, some light grooming and the correct tack to use but little of their day to day care.
No experience is necessary to become a volunteer at RVR, just a willingness to pitch in to help do barn and ranch chores.
I knew I would never adopt a horse but I had the next best thing, being encouraged to become a buddy to a rescue horse that needed someone to give it lots of personal attention. We take in horses that have no trust in people due to abuse or neglect. Horses with grossly overgrown hooves, almost starved to death or with wounds that need drastic attention over an extended time to bring about any hope of healing.
I’ve learned so much over the years about horses that when we took in a couple of miniature horses I was eventually nicknamed the Mini Mom and became one of their main caretakers.
Now I not only care for our mini horses and mini donkeys but am working with them to be outreach ambassadors and future therapy animals. We have scouts, schools and camp groups of children come out for a morning of volunteer work. In addition to doing chores, we make sure they get to interact with a mini so they can make a connection between the animal's needs and an understanding of how a well-cared for animal responds to humans who care for them.

As a retired early childhood educator, I’m asked to share what I’ve learned from RVR about horse care and rescue work with students at area schools. For me, being a mini mom and educator for RVR is a dream come true. - Debbie M.

Three years ago an article in a local newspaper led me to RVR Horse Rescue. Shortly after, I became a volunteer there. It has been an amazing experience for me since then. The founder and volunteers are such compassionate people. They make a difference for so many of the horses who come in giving all their time and energy to help horses heal their bodies and spirits. I have witnessed the healing process with numerous horses, watched volunteers work at forming a bond with a particular horse and then seen how eventually that horse is able to trust and seek out attention from someone. I'm thankful that I discovered RVR and can be a part of this incredible rescue organization.

This charity does a great job utilizing their funds to directly benefit the horses. Due to such high volunteer participation, donations benefit horses who need vet care, food, dentistry, foot care and more to insure they can recover from neglect or injury and find a good home or live out their days at RVR. Thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers.

My love for horses came from my mom and began as a small child when my grandfather brought home a Shetland pony. I was fortunate to have always had horses in my families barn! One welsh pony carried me through very difficult teen years! I spent many, many hours lying on his back while taking an early morning bareback stroll or sitting beside him while he munched on his hay … receiving comfort from him when I needed it the most! As an adult, I did not have the luxury of owning my own … being a single parent did not leave room in the finances … and I stole every chance I had to enjoy someone else’s best friend any way I could … just to be near them! When I moved to Florida at age 60 … I decided to take some time off from the working world and it was then that I sought out a horse rescue! That’s when I found RVR! Not only did I find my long lost zen in the company of the horses … but I found friends there too! RVR goes far above and beyond to accept any and all horses in need … there is no judgement … just love for these animals! It is so amazing to watch the transition in these horses when they experience the tender care and love that RVR gives them and that they so deserve! RVR always does what’s right for the horse … even if it’s not the easiest for them! I hold high regard for ALL who are involved with this rescue and will always be grateful that they provided me with the privilege of being a small part in what they do! Thank you RVR … for what you do … most importantly for the horses … but also for the people whose hearts have been touched by them! You ARE their voice! ❤️

I was introduced to RVR when I first moved here from Canada by a fellow Canadian that happened to be one of the many horse angels involved with RVR.

Over the years I have come to rely on RVR very much for guidance , support & rehab for the many ottb that they have assisted with .

I’ve always been truly amazed with the dedicated staff and the care provided as well as the true compassion expressed for every single horse, donkey, cat or dog that has ended up in their door step.

I feel truly blessed that we have such devoted and loving individuals at RVR .

I always refer to individuals at RVR,as horse angels that take care of our precious ottb as they venture into their retirement or second careers…. Thanks again from the bottom of my heart for all that you gals and guys accomplish at your amazing facility. You truly are horse Angels xo

So, I am asked to tell my story with RVR.
I believe the important story is RVR'S.
They are one of very few "true rescues".
RVR runs on volunteer's time and effort. The horses are given the best care possible.
The facility is gorgeous.
Always clean. RVR has taken the time and effort to be accredited.

I adopted a beautiful chestnut Paso Fino mare from RVR. Lily is wonderful and loving.
Lillianna was her name at RVR. She was ready for the ring. Classic Fino. I feel fortunate to have the privilege to adopt and ride Lily. She has awesome ground manners with bunches of love thrown in.
Thank you RVR.

I stumbled across RVR when our Boy Scout troop was looking for a place to do service hours. After being there for the day it was clear to me that this is where I needed to be. I’ve always had a love for horses, I just can’t not say hi to one when I see them. Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to be around them. I had minimal horse experience, so 40 years later I made my dream come true to be surrounded by these magnificent animals. I never expected to also become a part of a family! The volunteers at RVR are more than just dedicated. They simply love what they do and it shows! I have learned so much from each one of them. They go above and beyond when it comes to the well-being of the horses. They make sure the horses get the best care and that’s not only while they are at RVR. The adoption process is rigorous and very well organized to make sure these horses find a loving forever home.
I am proud to be part of this family, this is truly my happy place!❤️

I'm kinda upset that you can't rate higher than 5 stars! This place captured my heart three years ago. I have learned so much about horses, helped save many and adopted a horse and a donkey from RVR! I am currently a point person (we make sure all shifts am and pm are covered and help manage the barn) and a board member. Besides working a full time job with 50+ hours every week, I spend a minimum of 10 hours at RVR horse rescue every week, and I love every minute of it. The volunteers are amazing, the horses.... well, there's nothing better than them! This organization is making great leaps and bounds and is branching out further than just the surrounding community. I am blessed to be a part of it and learn along the best!

My family adopted two horses from here, both taken back. The story is too long to post here, but I am very experienced with horses, have adopted from multiple rescues in the past, and never had a problem. RVR was shady and backhanded in their dealings with me. They chose to be sneaky instead of having a conversation with me. This is a very unprofessional rescue who tried to sell me saddles and tack from the beginning and then tried to hold back some of the adoption fee when they came to my boarding facility and stole the horse they adopted to me. They do not want their horses to be anything but pasture pets.

I have been blessed to be welcomed by RVR on Dec 5, 2017. These amazing Horse Angel Warriors took me under their wing and became my horse family for life. The camaraderie is unbelievable! I was broken health wise with many ailments just the same as our horse rescues. For me? It was a win win for me. The horses helped heal me as I did the same for them. What love and care I give to each and every rescue, I get back 10 x’s fold. What more can one ask for. I leave this world we all live in, outside the gates each time I volunteer. It’s a place that gives me peace and keeps on giving this heaven on earth I pray for each day. To let go of all the worries and stress outside the RVR gates, gives me solace, gratitude and a place to witness miracles that have been unlimited times. RVR has helped so many horses to be able to live a happy life and live like a horse that they once forgotten.

The best rescue, I was introduced through a local barn that my daughter rode at, we went as a group to volunteer and that was it I was hooked. Throughout the years I have gone out with my daughters it has been the best decision as a mother I have made. The confidence, compassion and life lessons my daughters are learning I couldn’t get anywhere else. Are there days the tears run down my face over the loss of one of God’s majestic creatures yes but knowing every wa done and that the horses we have lost were suoorinded by living hands and kind words is worth the pain and then the triumph stories we are able to save and bring back to the glory they should be in are amazing. We were blessed to adopt one of the beautiful babies for a friend of our other horse and it has been awesome. The rescue is a family and a healing place for all that walk through the gates. So blessed to have this place and I don’t know what I would do without it.

Over my 8 years as a volunteer and website chairperson for RVR, I have seen so many incredible rescues, recoveries, and rehomings by amazing volunteers and an unbelievably dedicated leadership team. Every rescue and rehabilitation takes place with the most love and compassion you can imagine. I'm not aware of many nonprofits where no member gets any financial compensation whatsoever, including the Founder/President But that's the case with RVR; every penny donated goes to the care of horses in need. RVR's outreach programs to the local schools, veteran's programs, and within Plant City provide unique services to the community. Highly recommend for volunteering or donations.

I have been volunteering at RVR Horse Rescue since 2013. I lived in St. Pete which was about 50 miles away, and after I adopted Goliath decided that was just too far to drive. So I moved! Then 5 years later, the rescue moved to Plant City, FL - which was going to be a 45 minute drive again - so - I moved once more! This time I bought a place with 2 acers and now have Goliath and Dominic (G's donkey best friend) in my back yard! I am now only 2 miles from the rescue, so I get there more often that before!

I have seen so many horses come in in horrible shape, get rehabbed and find new homes. They take the worst of the worst and do wonders for them!

I'm going on two years as a volunteer now, and I have to say that RVR Horse Rescue just keeps getting better and better. The number of lives, both equine and human, that are touched here on a yearly basis is amazing. There is something unforgettable about watching abused and neglected horses learn to love and trust humans again. The transformations that happen here are magical. The time, dedication, tenacity, and support that volunteers give on a daily basis never ceases to amaze me. We started volunteering almost two years ago, and we fell in love with, and adopted our big-guy, Thunder. Last year for Father's Day, we added Dominick, the donkey to our family as well. RVR saved them from a life of neglect, and we are blessed to call them our own. I spend every weekend volunteering and caring for the horses that are still being rehabilitated and the ones who haven't been lucky enough to find their forever-human yet. I am truly blessed to have found this amazing non-profit.

About 9 months ago I was looking for a volunteer opportunity with horses and rescue preferably. Researching various rescues not far from Tampa I came across RVR horse rescue. I started following them on social media and watched the many videos of heartbreaking rescues as well as the heartwarming happy endings as rescued horses found their new forever homes. I was a horse fanatic from an early age and had the good fortune to have been exposed to various equine disciplines throughout the years including owning and retraining my own horses but a horse rescue would be a new experience for me. From day one I have felt very welcome and appreciated. It has been an amazing experience so far. The new location is amazing, I don’t know if it’s more therapeutic for me or for the horses but the positive impact of the beautiful new location is felt by all. I’ve watched numerous horses move onto their forever homes leaving as shiny, healthy and happy horses which is what it’s all about. I’ve made new friends and not just the four “hooved” kind as we all share the passion and commitment to take care of these horses and help them on their journey. I look forward to continuing to help in whatever way I can as I love what RVR horse rescue is all about. ( see even Polygram is smiling)

One of the only regrets I have of moving out of the state of Florida is that I am no longer able to volunteer at RVR. You will not find a more caring, compassionate, dedicated group of people than you can at RVR. They do everything they can to help save horses, donkeys, and others and when allowing them to cross the rainbow bridge is the best choice, that animal is surrounded by more people who love it than it has seen its entire life. Everything there is a labor of love and done by those who hear the call to be a voice for those that do not have one. They stand up for what is right, provide education to the community, and most importantly, they help the helpless find trust again and give them their chance at a happily ever after!

I've been a volunteer at RVR Horse Rescue for over eight years. During that time I have seen numerous horses that arrived at the rescue near death from severe illnesses or injuries caused by neglect or abuse. That is RVR's specialty to take the severe cases that show questionable recovery and rise to the challenge of giving that horse the best care possible for however long it might take. Their results are amazing, especially when you take into account that this is an all volunteer run facility.
RVR's volunteers work together to get jobs done and it is so rewarding to be a part of their team. It’s not only a healing place for the animals but for the people who volunteer there as well. Many of the volunteers have referred to RVR as their “happy place” and I have to agree with that.

Three years ago I was looking for a volunteer organization that helped animals. I read an article about RVR Horse Rescue and the amazing work they do with badly neglected and abused horses. I became a volunteer shortly after that day. I continue to be in awe of the sincere dedication of all the volunteers. There are all ages working there, from young children who come with one or more relatives to senior citizens. I have seen rescued animals that I never thought would survive, animals that no one wanted or cared for. RVR is a miracle ranch and I have seen the proof. The horses are given the very best of care, many times it is round the clock care. Everyone is encouraged to use their talents and strengths to help the animals. RVR's caring spirit is also evident in the friendships and bonds that have been formed between the volunteers. I am unable to own or adopt a horse but thanks to RVR's Barn Buddies and Sponsorship programs, I am encouraged to form a bond with a particular horse, giving her individual attention when I'm there. It is just one more way I feel like I'm making a difference every time I go there. RVR Horse Rescue is an amazing place. I have seen all the good they have done for animals these past three years and with continued support they will just keep getting better.

RVR Horse Rescue is one of the most amazing and unconditional places I have ever volunteered for. The staff and volunteers dedicate their time endlessly to provide care and love for the horses and property at such a high-quality level. I'm so appreciative to be a part of the RVR volunteer team. Thank you RVR Horse Rescue for all you do!

I came to RVR Horse Rescue in 2013. I volunteered at a Horse farm in Wisconsin and when I moved back to Florida in 2012 I missing horses terribly. I came across RVR Website and went out on a day they were having a rummage sale and it was open to the public. I was Immediately greeted by friendly volunteers. Once they found out I was a "horse" person they took me under their wings, showed me the horses and property and the process to volunteer. I have been here ever since. I have seen the horse rescue grow into such an amazing organization. The care and unwavering dedication (24/7 365) to care for the horses is incredible. I am honored to be the Volunteer Law Enforcement Liaison & Training Coordinator for our LART (Large Animal Rescue Team) unit. We have evolved in our training and are working with our local Fire Department, State Agricultural representatives, local and State animal shelters and are in partnership with National Animal Rescues and Training organizations as well. Our team has taken and hosted advanced training for Large Animal Rescue and we will continue into the future. I am so proud to be a member of this organization. Under the direction of our founder and leader Shawn Jayroe our Board Members, chairs and Incredible volunteers We Are The Voice of the abused and neglected horses and we will Never Stop. I came to RVR Horse Rescue to sponsor a donkey about 5 years ago. After a bit I began as an official volunteer. The people at RVR have welcomed me and taught me so much. I adopted one of the horses that came in severely emaciated. I was very nervous to own a horse but RVR has a way of making sure each horse that is adopted out goes to the right person. He is the perfect horse for me. I cannot say enough about the work they do. Upon arrival horses in such bad shape seem to know that they have found a safe and loving landing. I’m cannot imagine my life without RVR.

I started volunteering over 4 years ago and just fell in love with this organization. I was able to adopt the best horse in the world they saved his life! Unfortunately abusing horses is far to common and without an organization like RVR many would die without knowing love and care. RVR is 100% volunteer run, no one gets paid. They have an amazing group of volunteers who work many hours to care for and love the resident horses.

Became a volunteer at this rescue 5 years ago. They take in some of the worst case scenarios and in many cases turned those horses lives around. They are amazing at what they do. I've seen them take in 8 horses in one save and 15 in another. That is huge when they are all arriving starved, scared and abused.

I have supported many nonprofits over the years, either financially or by volunteering, and have never seen such a dedicated group of volunteers as the one at RVR Horse Rescue. These are people giving everything they have and then some to save animals that you may think are beyond help. Everything I have ever seen the team do for the horses at RVR has been done with love, respect and an understanding of what is needed both medically and mentally to give the horses the very best chance at recovery. I consider myself very lucky to be part of the team at RVR. I'm inspired by the tenacity and will to live shown by these horses and forever touched by the mix of practicality and love that underlies how the team cares for them. They never let these horses down no matter what their prognosis. If they cannot be saved, RVR volunteers will make sure the last things they know are the gentle sounds of loving voices and the touch of hands that want only to comfort them. If they do have a chance at recovery, RVR will fight every step of the way for them. Every bit of what is donated goes right back into the care and rehibilitation of these horses. I can't recommend RVR highly enough.

i have followed RVR Horse Rescue online for several years and have always been amazed at what they do, how strong they are to do it and how their skill and caring show with every one of their horses. They save so many and find them loving homes and the care and love they show to those they cannot save is equally amazing. When I visited them with a donation of supplies, they could not have been more gracious and generous with their time as they introduced me to their herd. Since that time, I have watched many of the horses I met heal physically and mentally. All are treated with love and respect. I have never been so amazed at a group of volunteers and what they accomplish.

I went to RVR horse rescue to meet horses for the possibility of adoption. I immediately felt such a calming feeling once I pulled onto the property. I was greeted by a wonderful volunteer named Stacy. As I was on the tour with Stacy, I could clearly see the dedication of RVR to saving horses and how exactly great the people involved in this operation are. I read several of the horses stories a few nights before my appointment. When I seen them in person and to know the condition they were in when they arrived at the rescue made my eyes swell with tears of joy to see such humanity. I knew right then, I had to be apart of this some how. Then as if Stacy could see through my eyes to my heart, she asked if I would be interested in volunteering as well. Yes, yes, yes!! I sponsored to adopt Dusty and Sugar. During that time, I came and volunteered then would spend time with Dusty and Sugar. I was blessed enough to be considered worthy of adopting Dusty and Sugar. Yay!! Awesome, approved to bring the babes home and volunteering. I couldn't be happier. Dusty lived at the rescue for over 2 years. He came in with another senior named Misty. Dusty and Misty are very attached. Shawn Jayroe always keeping her herds best interest in mind
discussed me fostering Misty, so her and Dusty can stay together. Yes, yes, yes!! Another dream to come true... to help more than just mine. Oct. 29, 2016 Dusty, Misty, and Sugar came home with me. I continue to volunteer and tell my friends and family all the time how great RVR is. I have never seen anyone mistreat any of the horses. I have seen nothing but love, care, blood, sweat, and tears poured into RVR horse rescue. I am not saying this because I adopted and volunteer there. I would have never went back after the first time, if I felt uneasy or seen one thing I found unfit. I was and still truly awed. I have never been one to donate to many organizations in fear of my funds being used inappropriately. I'd rather see the money go to what it is really supposed to and not into someone's pocket to live large. It is obvious all funds are put back into the rescue and not frivolously used. Sorry for the long story but I could go on forever about how awesome RVR is for horses and humans. ❤❤

Of the nearly all-women group of volunteers, not one person is paid, including the board members. Every cent donated is used to help horses in need. The place and the people are heaven-sent. Truly an organization worthy of support.

I've been blessed to be a part of RVR Horse Rescue for nearly three years and I felt the magic from the very first time I stepped on the property. The founder and owner has dedicated her life to saving these majestic animals and she sacrifices many things in life for the sake of the horses. The volunteers are an amazing group of caring people and there is no paid staff, meaning every cent of donation goes directly to the care of the horses. Best of all, many horses find their second chance at life after being abused or neglected. RVR specializes in taking the worst of the worst cases and it's beautiful to see their transformations back to good health. I am proud to have written a book that highlights many amazing recoveries. I have seen some incredible recoveries, and have helped several cross the Rainbow Bridge, knowing they were loved. No one cares for their horse like RVR Horse Rescue does! The first picture is when my horse, Goliath, first came to the rescue with 5 others. the second is after I adopted him. Such a change.

In 2009 my husband lost his battle with cancer. I was lost. Several years later I found RVR Horse Rescue in Riverview, Florida. I have always loved horses, showed hunter/jumpers as a high school student, then got them again after I was married, so this seemed like a great fit for me. Little did I know how great it would be. I was amazed at the care and love all the volunteers had for these horses who found them selves in horrendous circumstances due to no fault of their own. About a month after I started there, they took in 6 horses from another "rescue". All were in horrible shape. One horse in particular was also very traumatized and had had several of his front teeth knocked out. I was able to make a connection with him, and several months later adopted him. I have seen so many stories like mine, both people and horses coming out of bad situations and learning the thrive again. RVR puts the horses first, but in doing so, helps people too. It is just such a great place with wonderful, caring volunteers.

I have met, and continue to meet, extraordinary people who give without question. I’ve seen transformations of horses we take in, in as little as a day. It’s as if they know they are in a better place immediately. The haven that has been built here on the backs of the volunteers that the owner Shawn Jayroe has united in this cause, has been nothing less than amazing. I had started lessons with a new trainer in Feb. 2016. I was having a great time riding different ottb's and friends horses. Something was missing though and I knew that the time had come for me to start to casually look for a horse that would be good for me and my children to love and have fun with. My trainer suggested RVR. I went out to look at an ottb that they had to possibly do jumpers/eventing with. This grey gelding kept following me around the paddock and he was cute but shorter than I was even considering. When I went to leave the paddock he wickered to me and Lisa Gold was surprised as he really had not been much of a people horse thus far. So I went back and checked him out and as I looked into his eyes something clicked. This was MY horse. I sponsored him for 2 months but really knew from the first moment that he was mine, LOL. We have overcome many obstacles with his fear of humans and he is just an amazing pony! This horse has stolen my heart and I cannot believe that he was bought from a slaughter pen! He went to his first dressage show and he was AMAZING! He has been doing 10+ mile Hunter paces this year and he is a star in my book. He loves my kids, everyone at the barn, the dogs, and now instead of hiding from people he is the barn's Welcome Wagon at the entrance. The care and work that RVR puts into each and every horse, the facility, and in placing these horses into the right family is unparalled. I will be back for another soon, as soon as we have our property as Crosby will need a friend.

RVR is an amazing place where horses and humans are healed. RVR is a 100% volunteer run organization that specializes in caring for and bringing back to life those who have suffered the worst forms of abuse and neglect. The rescue's goal is to completely rehabilitate these rescues and find them what every horse deserves, a forever loving home. I have volunteered at other animal rescues over the years and none of them have matched the integrity, dedication, and innovation of RVR. This Rescue is dedicated to not only make a difference for individual animals but also in the much needed area of educating and empowering the public through the CLEAR Campaign (Care, Learn, Educate, Act, Rescue) and the Horse Angels Program which was created to offer temporary assistance for those who just need a little help to get back on their feet. In addition, RVR now has over 30 volunteers who have trained and received their Large Animal Rescue Certifications to be of even greater service to equines in need.

I entered the gates of RVR Horse Rescue over 6 years ago as a volunteer and I'm still here today! So proud to be a part of this incredible organization!

My wife and I just adopted Silver Knight from RVR. Let me first start off by saying no one, and I mean NO ONE gives these abused and neglected animals as much love as RVR does. Our adoption counselor Stacy did an absolute phenomenal job from start to finish. She made us feel welcomed from the moment we entered RVR to the moment we left with Silver. She's a sweetheart and a gem, and in my eyes, gives RVR the reputation that it so deserves. Sergio did a great job instructing my wife in riding discipline with our horse, and she did not have one negative word to say after her riding lesson. From here on out, we will be adopting for life. Thank You RVR, and thank you for the love, attention, and dedication you show these beautiful giants.

I want to share the story of how we came across Silver Knight. If you don't believe in fate, well maybe my story will prove you wrong. The first thing I want to mention is that ever since I was a young teen I dreamed of owning a large dapple grey horse and naming him Lancelot (Inspired by the movie First Knight). This fantasy horse has still been very much a dream that has been kept alive in my mind and heart, but truly just a fantasy and something I never thought could become a reality. So, here's the story. Around Christmas Eve I joked with my Husband and said "Yknow, I sure would like Santa to bring me a horse next year" and kinda without missing a beat He was like ...'Listen, this summer I will build you a stall and we can get you a horse for Christmas.' We even shook hands on it! Since that day I've been dreaming of horses and just looking forward to the future. One weekend not too long ago, on a whim we decided to go to a local Flea Market. Believe it or not the flea market had a horse rescue right there (Ya gotta love the country lifestyle). I told my Husband I wanted to check out the horses and talk to the lady running the adoptions and that I would much rather adopt a rescued horse that needed a home than purchase one. My Husband looked at me a little cockeyed and I told him "I just wanna check it out. That's all" So we did. I spoke to the lady and she had a few horses for adoption; many of them seniors. I felt so bad and wanted to take all of them home, but I feared if I adopted a much older horse they wouldn't have much time with us and I didn't want to endure that sort of heart break for my family and myself as we have very young children. As we were leaving the flea market I told my Husbsnf that my friend has several rescued horses and I would write her to see who she got them from and look into an adoption in the future. I wrote my friend, got some contact information to get in touch with RVR Horse Rescue. As I was speaking with the adoption coordinator I was telling her my history with horses (my whole life and passion besides my children!) and I described to her my dream horse. I kid you not when I say this... I was speaking to her on the phone at 5pm and just an hour BEFORE at 4pm Silver Knight was brought to RVR!!!!! A dapple grey 16hh+ Thoroughbred. MY DREAM HORSE. And what are the ODDS he would be a Silver Knight = Lancelot?!!!!
Quick arrangements were made and Silver and I met. It was love at first sight! Silver and I bonded quickly and we were a perfect match as horse and rider. Now after a very smooth adoption process he is now home with my family. Silver is welcomed to our farm with plenty of love! He not only has a loving family, but a playful lovey dog to run around with, curious kitty cat , two alpacas, a mini donkey, a mini horse and our comedic turkey! My family and I cannot express our sincerest gratitude to all of those at RVR for their kind ways, huge hearts and immense compassion in guiding and supporting my Husband and Myself through this whole adoption process.
I am forever grateful for Stacy Rebh Pace, Kit Kelly, Allison Lee and Shawn Jayroe for entrusting and supporting our love for Silver.

My wife Robin has been in business for herself as a massage therapist for 16+ years, and has recently been certified in K9 massage, in this endeavor she found a need for doing work for horses. After finding RVR horse rescue we decided to visit there and see what it was all about. We were impressed by the animals, the people and the grounds. Truly a place of healing. If you have only a few hours a month it would be worth a visit, you will come away with a feeling of completeness and calmness that only being in a place like this can offer. They have orientation classes that last about 4 hours that explain how the program works. Every day they need people to feed the horses morning and night and to clean up the stalls and corrals, not hard work but it needs to be done to keep the place as neat as it is. We plan on being there for many years to help.

RVR is an amazing group of volunteers and angels of mercy for equine in despair. I have had the priveledge of adopting my horse Crosby from them. They took a scared, abused, and emaciated horse and fed him, healed him both physically and mentally. Now I am continuing the healing with him mentally and he is turning out to be an amazing horse. I cannot wait to see what the current brings us

My visits to RVR Horse Rescue were truly amazing. You can feel the love and know that God work is being done and He is in the midst of everything. The volunteers and owners love the animals and the animals love the volunteers. Such a wonderful experience I will never forget and as soon as I am able and not working so much, I plan to spend a lot more time out there. God bless all the angels who work so hard to make all those sweet babies well once again and give them love and quality of life, and God bless those sweet animals that fight so hard and know they are in a place where they will never experience abuse or neglect again. Love me some RVR!!!!

RVR is a benevolent horse rescue where volunteers desire not money or attention but simply a sense of safety and security for these sweet horses. Abused, starved, and neglected these actions are placed upon horses daily, sometimes to the point of near death experiences. All these caring animals need is a home where they can feel loved and desired. What better place than a beautiful ranch filled with selfless, caring volunteers that contain so much sympathy and genuine love in their hearts. Volunteering at RVR has been a huge blessing to not only my family but any family they come in contact with. They display kindness in whatever they do and are truly concerned with these horses well being.

RVR Horse Rescue is by far the most amazing place I've ever had the chance of knowing. It is run by a great woman (Shawn) and a large team of animal lovers who ALL work to help these animals without a dime! Their only payment is the love these horses give! I have seen animals go to them who most would not have given a chance. Months later, you would NOT even recognize them because they are so happy, healthy and healed! If you want to donate to a rescue that really makes a difference, RVR is an easy choice!! RVR STRONG!!!

Animals that most people would not give a chance as they are "too far gone". But RVR gives them ALL a chance, and seeing them a few months-years later is such an astounding turn around! Most you would never know we're abused! I am proud to know RVR!!

Everyone loves to see a healthy, well fed, happy horse running in a pasture. His head is held high and his tail is up in the air. He runs for the sheer pleasure of running. It is a breathtaking sight. The horse that arrives at RVR Horse Rescue is skinny, sick and sad. But just wait. I love going to RVR to watch the horses and volunteers do their thing. I have seen individual workers, moms with their children and families volunteering. A couple weeks ago there were two young boys there, somewhere between 10 and 13. They were carting horse manure from the stalls and pens to the compost pile in the back. They worked in tandem loading the wheelbarrows and going back and forth and back and forth. It was obvious they were enjoying themselves. Kudos to their parents for allowing such a fabulous lesson in donating time. Everybody is a winner there, both horses and humans.

I want to express my love and gratitude for RVR. Searching thru the internet one day I found this horse rescue called RVR in Florida. The more I read about it, the more in awe I was of their commitment and love to these animals. I have been a horse lover as far as I remember, and when I started reading these horrific stories of abuse these horses had gone through, I could hardly finish the stories. But what kept me reading was the incredible outcomes of most of them....the before and after stories. I was blown away by the unthinkable abuse many had gone thru. When i read about Shawn Jayroe's vision to make sure every horse has a chance....to be loved, nurtured, fed, veterinarian care, hoof and teeth care.....rehabilitated and re-homed with perfect matches... and yet sometimes humanely euthanized when the concern is whats best for the beloved animal. I had never experienced such an amazing organization of dedicated volunteers who make RVR a priority. After reading so much, I made the decision to fly (I live in California) just to see if RVR was the real deal. I must say, IT WAS MORE THAN I COULD EVER HAVE IMAGINED. We were greeted with such a warm welcome and shown all around the property and got to meet all the famous horses I had been reading about. We stayed for 4 days....and got to experience so much!! shoveled stalls, fed the horses, groomed and walked them and even got to ride at the end!!! I have never felt so much genuine concern, love, compassion, dedication in an organization. It was so clean ....the property grounds were beautiful, each stall swept daily and fresh food. Everyone was so conscientious of their duties and care of each individual horses needs...RVR takes in the worst of the worst...some are to far gone to help, but RVR loves them to the end giving them love and dignity and letting them know that all humans aren't bad....the hold them as they cross over the bridge. I truly don't know how they do it daily,....the heartbreak they see......but the success stories are so beautiful and give so much hope for the next horse to be rescued at RVR. It's not about the peoples feelings, it's about the horses needs at all cost.....even if it means 24 hour care in their stalls.....RVR is there. My stay gave me faith in mankind again....to know that these volunteers are making a difference made me want to be a part of something much greater than me. I live to far to daily volunteer so I am a financial supporter ( RVR is a non profit organization...and it was VERY clear from the beginning that ALL MONIES go to the interest in rehabilitating their horses) I am forever changed and grateful for RVR and their dedication to rescuing these beautiful majestic animals from horrific abuse. RVR truly is heaven on earth sanctuary . They are CLEAR and the voice for the abused. I will continue to visit and stay in contact with RVR, support them and visit at least once a year to be part of such a wonderful rescue group. Please consider visiting RVR and/or supporting them. They truly are so humble and genuine in their intentions. God Bless RVR Sharon Webb

As a horse lover, I saw an article one day about C.L.E.A.R. thru RVR Horse Rescue. As I learned what it stood for, CARE, LEARN, EDUCATE, ACT and RESCUE, I began to research RVR. As I began to read all the stories of "before and after" I couldn't believe what I was reading. The horrific abuse , neglect and abandonment of horses. I learned of the heart of RVR and about the owner, Shawn Jayroe, who has dedicated her money, time and compassion to be the voice of these neglected and rejected and abused horses. As I began to follow there mission to save these horses, I saw heartbreaking horses that they had rescued with no hope. I watched as they showed them love for the first time, fed them for the first time, when they had been in filthy conditions with only dirt and manure to eat. I saw them address hooves that were so bad the horses could barely walk...I watched as they brought in vets to evaluate each horse and decide the best plan of rehabilitation to give the horse a chance to live land have a chance with a forever home of love. I watched as they stayed up 24 hours a day with ones that were to weak to get up, comforting them with compassion and showing them love. I watched them cry when they could do no more, but assist them over the rainbow bridge.
I couldn't believe such compassion so I decided to fly to Florida (I live in California) to see RVR in operation and meet these people and volunteers. First hand, I meet the most wonderful group of VOLUNTEERS that are selflessly dedicated to the welfare and rehabilitation of these forgotten animals. I had never met an operation with such a mission to rescue and love horses. I saw every horse receive a special diet specific to their health problem, vitamins and medicines. I watched as they saw a problem arise, take pictures and send to the vet, with immediate response for de-worming, wound care, and other conditions that arose that needed professional attention. They are a no-nonsense rescue.....that lives and breathes these horses. I witnessed people coming from far away bringing food and supplies as donations to help..people stepping up to financially sponsor their horses and be a part of their rehabilitation. I meet people that set their lives aside to be part of rescue that was pure and honest to the well being of these abused horses. My life changed the minute I walked onto the property of RVR. I have been to other rescue organizations, but they have been politically motivated, money before the care of the animals. RVR is about animals, and will find the money to make it happen. Because of their integrity, people have generously donated to keep their vision alive. Every stall was immaculate, fresh water, fresh food, no manure. They had even built a special lift to help a horse that couldn't stand anymore. I came home in awe, and have now made it my mission to help raise awareness for RVR and raise donations for such an amazing horse rescue. I will forever be changed by this experience, the people that i met and the mission and vision that Shawn has for all the abused and helpless horses. Thank you RVR for opening your doors to educate others on the importance to Care Learn Educate Act Rescue.....God Bless RVR

RVR is doing the work that most people don't want to. By taking horses who are abused and starved they are giving them a second chance at life. These animals deserve better than they got at man's hands and RVR has given them that chance. It is assisted by volunteers who care about their survival. I pray that there will come a day when the horses no longer need a rescue to help them, but until then RVR is the best at what it does. Keep up the good work.

There are so many descriptive words I could use to describe what RVR is, but I'm just going to say that they are the real deal. Some of the worse cases have been brought to RVR, some have had to have 24 hour care, some so scared, and emeciated you would think they would never trust humans again. But the patience, love and care that is given to each of these rescuses, they become trusting, loving and happy horses again and they will never have to worry about abuse again. My 9 year old granddaughter and myself have been volunteering for 2 1/2 years and we are proud to say that we are part of RVR.

My family and I moved to Riverview Fl almost five years ago. I had heard about RVR while I was at a networking event with my sister several years ago. So, the that following weekend my family I took a visit out to RVR. I have to say..... I was very impressed and in aawww at the beautiful work they are all committed to doing with these awesome animals. I then decided to become a volunteer and involve my husband and son. We would come out to RVR on weekend mornings and help.... cleaning pastures, stalls, filling water buckets.... what ever needed to be done. One day my husband came out to the farm and built them a new picnic table for the volunteers to rest and relax in between barn duties..... he fell in love! The mission at RVR is very clear and steadfast and can be seen and felt when you walk through the farm yard ... I am privileged to be part of such a beautiful community of dedicated individuals that care so much about these incredible creatures that share our earth. Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the earth angels that care so much!! Shirley S.

I've volunteered with RVR Horse Rescue for over 2 years now. I've shed blood, sweat & tears along with the amazing group of volunteers that I have grown to consider not only friends but family. RVR Horse Rescue's team of dedicated volunteers work so hard to care for all the horses & donkeys in their care. I have seen them take these horses as skin and bones and bring them back to the happy healthy horses they deserve to be. I'm honored to be a volunteer at this organization.

When I started going to RVR Horse Rescue I thought I would find a place that would kill some boredom and allow me to give back to the community. What I really found was an amazing place with an amazing group of volunteers that dedicate so much of their own time and energy in to making RVR the amazing place that it is. It has become my home away from home. The minute the horses step out of the trailer they are greeted with open arms of love, care, and food. Something most of them haven't known in a long while. I consider myself lucky to be able to volunteer and be a part of such an amazing organization. There are so many great things I can say about this place...but don't take my word for it! Stop by and see for yourself :)

I started volunteering at RVR Horse Rescue in April 2013. When I walked thru those gates I wasn't expecting what I got. I got this overwhelming emotion of passion. A passion I knew I needed to be a part of this rescue. There is never a day off and it solely operates on donations from the community. All the volunteers come together for the love of these horses. RVR is known for taking in the worst cases of neglected and abused horses. I have personally watched as these horses come off that trailer and know they are safe now. With the dedication of everyone at the rescue these horses make a transformation that is nothing short of miracles. Whether they are with us for the long haul or just their hospice care they know love from every volunteer there.
I didn't realize on that day I walked thru those gates that my life would change. It is now my passion, my voice for these beautiful creatures. This rescue would not have made it without the backbone, the passion, the strength of one woman, Shawn Jayroe. This is her dream and she allows all of us to be a part of this journey.
I couldn't be more proud to say that I am a part of this amazing rescue. I look forward to everyday that I get to be involved in the lives of these animals.

I have been blessed with finding RVR. I have been volunteering since spring 2013 and love every minute of it. Every horse that comes through those gates is welcomed with open arms, love and food. Many who haven't eaten a real meal in a long time. Some scared of the attention because they have been alone for so long. Some in the most horrible shape that just breaks your heart. But once they're there, they are in the best company, love is blind. The love and care these horses get is unbelievable. Shawn Jayroe has made it her mission to be the voice for the neglected, abused, and malnourished horses. In just a few months of being there, the results of these horses is unremarkable. It's like a second family there. It is my peaceful place!

I have watched for the past few years RVR growing and becoming one of the most beautiful pieces of heaven on earth - The love and dedication to the animals is a magical thing to witness . I have seen the deep human concern for making these saddened - and sometimes extremely sick creatures whole again - and eventually matching them -with great thought behind- by the owner Shawn Jayroe - to a human that they can trust again . The whole process is incredible ! So much energy and focus and the possibilities are proven every time I visit . Help a Horse day this year was organized to help raise much needed funds and understating of the mission this group of volunteers are on . I have a deep respect for Shawn and her team of horse angels and I wish RVR all the best and can't wait to visit again

The stories of the horses brought tears to my eyes - sad to see the condition they were in when brought to the facility and extatic to see the care and improvement of their overall health. The volunteers and facility truly care about the horses and give their time freely to provide care to these amazing animals.

I have seen first hand what they do. They are fighters and the voices for the horses that can't fight or speak for themselves. If I could give RVR a million stars I would. I am a volunteer at a different rescue about 2 hours away from RVR. I have a very dear friend of mine that told me about RVR. I went and checked them out and they open not just their doors but their hearts to me. As I had questions and wanted to learn what I could from RVR so I had some knowledge of helping out my local rescue which is small and is in need of volunteers. When I came in with my family they showed me around the entire rescue, gave me stories as well as many ideas and things I could do to help my local rescue out where I started volunteering with my children. They have kept their phones, fb messages and even private numbers available to me and said to call any time and they would answer any question I had. To this day 4 months later they have taken my messages even at 3 am or any concerns I had. They have taught me things and my children as well to be able to help my local rescue as the founder is always so busy doesnt always have the time to show me what I can do to help. RVR and many of their volunteers have donated medical supplies, monetary donations to help out in the time of need for horses that needed their coggins, gelded, and many other things and helped me personally raise money for my local rescue. They have cheered me on and made me feel proud for helping a rescue that needed my help and in turn it was all bc of RVR helped me and continues to help me help the horse's and the local horse rescue. I consider them a part of my family even though I cant help them. They know im helping a rescue help horses and that is the key to all these rescues. I always look forward to talking to the whole RVR family and learn so much more in my journey helping another rescue and with all the knowledge RVR has. I was just at RVR last week and they gave me 2 boxes of more donations for the rescue I volunteer for. When ever I need help with something or have a simple question I can always turn to RVR for answers. Which helps me in so many ways by helping another horse rescue continue to save the lives of many horses. Thank you so much RVR for always opening your doors, hearts, hands and brains to myself so I can take what I learn from all of you and help teach other volunteers for our local rescue.

The staff is very courteous and helpful. The go above and beyond what you would expect from a non-profit group and it shows in their passion and commitment to every rescue. We finally found a rescue at RVR and are sponsoring to adopt Athena. What a jewel of a girl and the staff is there to help in every way. Can't say enough

I am from Michigan and have been a financial supporter of RVR, for over three years. After much research on the internet, I discovered the horror's of the Florida illegal slaughter farms and the
problems that Florida has with the starvation of many of it's horses in this state. After finding RVR,
on my next trip to Florida I visited the rescue. I was amazed of the compassion of the volunteer's,
and all the people associated with the rescue. I come visit every time I come to Florida and do what
I can to help. I was going to return the second day, I visited the first time, but a horse was dying and I just couldn't take it. Right, then and there I decided I didn't want to open my own rescue, I am just too emotional. I will do what I do best, I write checks! The people that work at the rescue are not
just volunteer's they are saints. I will continue to support RVR into the future and beyond.

I began following RVR on Facebook a year or so ago. I fell in love with RVR and the unique stories of the individual horses that were rescued and given an opportunity for a happy, healthy new life. I have smiled at the horses that were rescued and rehabilitated by RVR, and I have cried for the ones that crossed the Rainbow Bridge too soon despite RVR's best efforts to save them. I wanted to do more than just spectate from the sidelines so to speak. I wanted to get involved, so one day I got in the car and drove to the rescue. I was greeted warmly by the volunteers, and was immediately struck by the serene beauty that surrounded me. Horses grazed peacefully nearby, while others in various stages of rehab were being tended to by volunteers that were caring for their specific health issues. Since that day, I have been volunteering regularly at RVR, and loving every minute of it. I have never met a group of people more dedicated to RVR's mission, and bound together by their love of horses and their desire to make a difference. I am so proud to be affiliated with RVR, and the wonderful people that work tirelessly day after day caring for these beautiful creatures.

In the spring of this year i was in the market to get a horse after moving to Florida. One of my friends had suggested i should contact a local horse rescue and look into adopting before purchasing. One night i received a phone call a beautiful Off The Track Thoroughbred had come in and would be a perfect fit for me. I drove over the next day to fall in love with my forever horse. I initially started off as just a boarder who adopted a horse, but after seeing what RVR does and the wonderful things that their volunteers will go out of their way to do was amazing. I very quickly found myself involved volunteering my time to help RVR and all the wonderful things they do for these animals. They truly care about rescuing horses and not just to make a dollar. I even went on another rescue and fell in love with my second horse on the spot. The team at RVR will do whatever it takes to rescue, rehabilitate, educate, and find loving forever homes for any animal that they have the pleasure to help with. Thank you for all you do! I placed a retired racehorse last year with RVR and it was a great experience. Though Frenchie had been with me for three years and had become a member of our race family, I knew since I did not own a farm, it was time to find greener pastures for him. RVR not only accepted him, but came to get him, and placed him with a great guy who I have been in touch with from the onset. Pictures are posted on a regular basis and I know he has found his forever home. Having been in the horse racing industry for years, I have dealt with many, so called, rescue organizations which are strictly about making a buck. RVR has the horses' best interest in mind.....period. Which is the ultimate goal.

I have volunteered at cat and dog shelters but I have never seen such complete and total care and compassion as the people who work and volunteer at RVR have. I have seen the volunteers and owner work day and night, no sleep, no food or concern for themselves, to give a horse or horses a fighting chance, never leaving a horses side. Put thanks to the wonderful volunteers and time they truly become a healthy horse again ... They come in so abused they just look like they just want to give up....They don't know who to trust and love anymore...But in time we as a team gain that trust back....And sometimes it takes allot of time....Allot of effort and love from all of us out here.. Sometimes we stay with them 24/7 if need be....We do what ever it takes for that horse.... That's what RVR does....We take in the worst cases that I've ever seen and turn them around....You slowly see that abused horse be able to trust again... Love again and be a horse again.... I can go on and on about the wonderful things I've seen happen out there with theses abused horses.... And also they help the people too...I can't speak for every one but I can sure speak for myself.... RVR has truly helped me become a better person.. And I'd like to thank RVR, Shawn Jayroe and all the volunteers for that...It truly makes me feel good to be a part of RVR.... So with that being said I'll stop.... I have been out to RVR several times over the past year. My daughter, grandson and granddaughter volunteer there. Both daughters have adopted horses. The grandchildren LOVE going there and helping. What RVR does for these "throw away" horses is amazing!! Some come in barely able to walk, sores on their bodies and ribs/hip bones are showing. Forward a few months, and most are filled out, healed and loving life!!! Thankfully, places like RVR repair the damage done by Humans so these horses can go on and have beautiful lives with people that LOVE them!! Thank you RVR for all you do!!!

I volunteered and adopted a horse from RVR. They are great people who dedicate their time and extreme efforts into each rescue they take in. Shawn and the entire team are very heartfelt people who strive on bettering the lives of every animal. Each horse has its own unique story. Whether its a sad ending or a happy beginning, RVR dedicates each hour to learn and make others aware of what it takes to rescue, rehabilitate and focus on individual cases.

It's been a long time since I've seen an organization and it's members truly dedicated to a positive cause. The amount of effort and time given to the rescue and rehabilitation of these beautiful animals comes from the heart and it shows. I've witnessed horses under go transformations that most would consider to be impossible. My family and I love it!

RVR Horse Rescue has been one of the most rewarding charities I have ever dealt with. There is nothing better at the end of a stressful week than being able to help feed, clean, walk and hug a herd of horses. Watching them come in as rescues, malnourished and mistrustful but (most times) within weeks seeing them flourish and trust is worth more than any vacation. Shawn and her point people have more experience in bringing a horse back to health than anyone I've ever met. No place I'd rather be!!

When both my kids left for college, I was looking for something to do besides sit at home alone after work every day with my dog. I love my dog, but we had just about run out of interesting conversation. Several friends had suggestions for things I could now do; new classes, a bowling league, more exercise classes, photography, but nothing was jumping out at me. I'm still not sure how I found RVR Horse Rescue, but I came across the Facebook page one evening as I was sitting at home, and the pictures of the horses were so moving, I couldn't let it go. I had always loved horses when I was growing up. I had not only read every horse story ever, but I know I was probably one of the biggest collectors of plastic horse statues displayed in a bedroom ever! Luckily back then, I had friends with horses who would let me ride and just be around them as much as possible. But, it seemed once I went away to school, started working and had a family, my hobbies went by the way side. Regardless, there was now something about seeing the horses at RVR that, combined with the fact they said they were looking for volunteers, compelled me to email Shawn Jayroe, the founder and owner. She not only said she'd love to meet me, but graciously invited me to come out anytime to tour and meet her. My first visit wasn't until one day in December when my daughter was home from school on Christmas break. We got to walk through the entire property on a tour and though we were introduced to several horses that day, we kept feeling drawn to the two new rescues, Tornado and Rhett, who had just come in earlier that week and were up front, being monitored. They were so thin, hopeless and worn out looking to us, yet it seemed that in their eyes, there was a spark, recognition that no matter how bad it had gotten in their lives, they were safe now and it would get better. My daughter and I kept talking about them, all of them, and we went for one more visit before she went back to school, but I was hooked. I started volunteering little by little when I had time. Just getting to know the wide spectrum of volunteers that, like me, are there for the horses on a regular basis, has been not only enlightening, but renewed my faith in human kind and is a true testament to never judge any book by its cover... we are all very connected in ways we may not understand. Better even than meeting volunteers though was getting to know the actual horses themselves; just trying to understand what they've been through in their life and watching them gain back their strength and trust is amazing. But then to watch their true personality start to emerge again, is not only fascinating but somehow, and I can't explain how, osmosis?, transference? modeling? makes me such a better, happier, and stronger person myself, I'm in awe. Literally the lines are so blurred now that I no longer know who's rescuing who, nor does it matter. Because anyone who has worked with a magnificent animal like a horse, rescue or not, knows that every step they take is your step; every day they're not scared of something, you're a braver person for helping them get there; every time you see they can trust again, you're get that much stronger yourself as well. It's been about 9 months now and I love it more and more every time I go, which is never enough. The people are great, the horses are awesome and to be able to help these beautiful and intelligent animals is just totally rewarding. In May I was honored to be able to adopt Rhett, the rescue I met on my first day at RVR. We have developed a relationship that I know no one, ok, except maybe my daughter!, would understand. As the “experts” say, green (horse) plus green (rider) equals black and blue! But as I'm helping him overcome his fears and learn to love again, he’s getting to be stronger and my belief in what I can accomplish has also been renewed. It sounds odd to say but I know in my heart that he feels the same and not only would never hurt me but will try to protect me from whatever he thinks is scary, even if it is a puddle or a pony on that given day. And that is why when I think of him and RVR, my heart could just burst. I truly believe it was no coincidence how it all happened and I can’t thank either Shawn or RVR enough for allowing me into their world. I only wish everyone will try to have the same experience one day.

After spending 13 years in the Marine Corps and 3 combat tours in the Middle East I was searching for a place where I would be able to find peace and quiet. My daughter has a burning desire to learn more about horses so we decided to pay a visit to RVR Horse Rescue. Not only has my eleven year old daughter had many opportunities to learn about horses but my family has come closer together by volunteering together. We had the opportunity to be involved in a rescue of two horses that instantly stole our hearts and have claimed our family's hearts. Thank you RVR for being such a wonderful organization ran by amazing people from all walks of life who all have the same mission of giving every horse that comes in their gates a second chance.

There are so many reasons to love RVR Horse Rescue. On the ranch I stand in awe and admiration of the tender loving loving care that abounds and the unconditional dedication of many volunteers who assist in rescuing, loving, treating, and rehabbing these precious animals. Most come in extremely abused and neglected condition. Whether they recover or physically cannot, the horses experience the respect, love and care they deserve as a living creature.

RVR Horse Rescue is truly a Blessed and Amazing organization. My husband found RVR almost 3 years ago now online while he was looking for a horse to adopt. RVR runs totally on donations by an Awesome group of people who volunteer their time, and give so much love for these precious horses that have been abused terribly, and starved. You see, most rescues do not take horses in the conditions that RVR does. This is what makes RVR so special, they take in the worst of the worst and bring those horses back to life! What an amazing feeling it is to see a once sad, sick, skinny horse suddenly have a desire to live again, playing with other horses and have that glimmer of life back in their eyes! We feel blessed that we have been able to become part of this awesome horse rescue. We are also so very thankful for Shawn Jayroe the Owner, for following her mission to save horses lives for it is a huge Mission that we all must help to accomplish. Last but not least, we are so thankful for RVR also because we are the proud mommy and daddy of 3 precious horses that were once rescues at RVR that we would not have to care for and love if RVR hadnt saved their lives!

Ever since my husband and I met we have talked about how we wanted to have a dog rescue someday because we both love dogs so much. We had been praying for several years for land to own, 5 acres specifically so that we could have our own dog rescue. One day in December of 2011 my husband Terry started looking online at horses, We went to a place and then went on 2 trail rides. I was so scared to death but by the end of the 1 st ride I had started to enjoy it! This was my first time near and on a horse, but you see when Terry was a young boy his dad had horses and Terry helped to take care of them. He told me it was the "happiest time of his life". So when he said" come look at this video of these horses " of course I went and looked. Then he said let's go look at them at this place called RVR Horse Rescue, and I said ok. So out to RVR we went! From the moment we stepped foot on the property we could just feel that it was a very special place, in fact we felt it was a Blessed place from that first day and still do! To see all of the amazing horses was awesome! They loved the attention they were getting, the place was buzzing with many people tending to the horses. The people we great. Very friendly and willing to share the many stories. We had wanted to look at a horse named "Tex" but he was adopted by the time we got there. They then told us they had another horse named "Trigger" that we might be interested in so we met "Trigger". We fell in love with him right away, he was so sweet and handsome. We went home to pray about if we should adopt Trigger that nite. We had many questions, such as where to keep him, who could help us learn to care for him properly and how to ride and many other questions. We wanted to be sure that we treated him right because we never wanted him to be mistreated ever again. And yes Christmas Day we adopted Trigger! As we started spending time with him we fell in love with a horse named Dancer also. Yes we adopted her too! A few months later we adopted another horse named Jesse because he picked us! We live 1 hour away but we are at RVR every week. We have learned so much from Shawn and her team. They truly care for horses and want them all to be safe, happy, healthy, fed, and loved! It doesnt matter what time it is, or the fact that it is raining, or freezing or blistering hot outside, the horses get taken care of. These people truly live to save horses and they willingly share and teach anyone else who wants to help them on their mission to save horses. Another great thing about RVR is that it is great for people as well, especially kids. We have made such great new friends there as well that is also a blessing. It has been such a blessing to us and never in a million years would I have thought that I would own horses and now we want to spend every day with these great people to be able to be a part of this Awesome Horse Rescue! It is a great feeling to be with people who really fight to save an aninals life. Thank you Shawn and her team for being who you are. Come visit and volunteer, you will fall in love too!

RVR has truly changed my life and outlook on animals forever. You would never think that people could or would be so cruel to such animals, but it's true. Many are beaten, neglected, and pushed aside as if they are a piece of garbage. However, RVR has given each one of them a chance to be reborn, including my precious princess Shasta. She would never have survived without the help of RVR, and for that, I will forever be thankful. This place is a true miracle, and many animals would never be where they are now without them. It is my home, where I truly belong. Please join me and praise this heaven on Earth. ❤️

RVR has not only shown mistreated horses the true meaning of life, but has shown ME what life's true meaning is : to lend your love and care to someone in need. When I first started volunteering at RVR, I honestly didn't think much of it. I felt great like anyone else, thinking " Wow, this is awesome to be helping these horses ". But then something, or should I say someone, changed my life forever. At RVR, not even a full month in my days of volunteering, I met my first true love, Bo. Bo was a draft/paint mix who was rescued along with 5 other horses who were severely emaciated and hurt. The very first day that he arrived on the property, I knelt beside him on the other side of a fence, just whispering in his ears. I wanted to comfort him, let him know that everything was going to be okay now, and that he was safe. From that day on, our relationship grew and grew. I spent endless days and nights standing at his side, brushing him, and showing him the compassion that he lacked from his previous "home". We shared an unbreakable bond that neither of us will ever forget. Then it happened. October 31st of last year, Bo suffered from a serious colic, resulting in euthanasia. That night was probably the hardest night of my entire life. I had no idea what to do. I felt so lost. I stayed by his side for countless hours after he passed, wishing him the best. But even though that night I suffered from a loss so large that I cried for days, it taught me something that I will never forget: The ones who you truly love will always want you to give that love to others, even after they are gone. With his words, I worked my way through the months, each one that passed by making me miss him even more. But then another miracle happened. May 27th, 2014, I adopted a rescue by the name of Shasta. Shasta changed my life, and rescued me while I rescued her. People may think that humans and horses are extremely different, but if you really sit down and think about it, the one thing that we both share is our ability to love, and that is the most important quality of anybody.

RVR is like my second home. The horses comfort me like nothing else, and it is the one place that I can truly be myself. None of them will judge, and if anything, they will join in on my shananagans. If you haven't visited RVR yet, let me just tell you this: you are missing out on the world's most amazing horses to ever gallop across the earth.

And yes, I do enjoy scooping horse poop. As a matter of fact, I consider it very calming. ;)

About a year and a half ago....I had the honor of being introduced to RVR Horse Rescue in Riverview, Florida, by a fellow animal lover. I had just had just suffered a devastating loss in my own life and I was like a "fish out of water" trying to find something to fill the void...someone to offer some compassion....whether it was reading, therapy, or just spending time with friends and family. I have to say that nothing was working....the depression I was suffering through was debilitating.... I had a son to raise and two beautiful fur-babies.....
Along came Romeo.....undoubtedly the most horrifying of horse abuse stories I had ever read.....barely able to stand......emaciated to the point of a skeleton of what was once one of God's most beautiful creations....nothing more than skin over bones....but had a heart of steel!!!
I watched as Shawn, Dr. Gold and his wife Lisa Gold, and their incredible staff of volunteers, selflessly work around the clock to save this beautiful animal.....I followed Romeo's story on Facebook....daily....sobbing....the "unknowing" of whether he was going to come back as the beautiful animal he once was......in a few short weeks he was gaining weight...getting to know the other rescues....running feeling the wind on his face....it was truly a 'MIRACLE".....
I fell in love with this animal.....weeks turned into months...months turned into a year....he was receiving dental work....and facial surgery from bone fragments left untreated by previous owner.....
ROMEO became my hero!!!! RVR was my savior! Shawn, Lisa, Dr. Gold, the volunteers....known of whom I have actually even met, in the flesh....became my friends, my new family...they gave me a reason to come back from my own nightmare.....and my Romeo....through love, patience, compassion, time, was rehabilitated....he came back...Romeo is now the most handsome animal I have ever seen!!!
Through the months I have spent reading and following RVR....I have learned of so many more that Shawn and her team have rescued and brought back to life.....RVR is their VOICE!!! RVR is their hope! And not a one is turned away....no case too severe...no trip to far to travel....this is why they wake up every day. A true inspiration.....
I have yet to throw my arms around Romeo....but a ride to RVR will be in my plans soon, for sure...and I am saving hugs for Shawn and my "girl" Lisa Gold!!
Thank you ....thank you for your love, commitment, patience....and for never turning one away!
All my love.....Linda Shepheard - Tampa, Florida

They have also been extremely kind to me, and very willing to help me learn about horses. I've volunteered at other horse rescues and I have never seen one this clean, this organized and this caring. RVR is a fantastic organization. More than 140 horses have come through the gates of RVR as survivors of the worst kind of abuse and neglect. At RVR they experience healing from their physical and psychological wounds. They learn to trust and enjoy human touch. They become strong and healthy again.

RVR has five functions: Rescue of abused and neglected horses. Rehabilitation to bring horses to health. Rehoming horses to families that will treat them the way they deserve. Sanctuary for horses whose age or chronic illnesses make them harder to adopt. Hospice for the horses who arrive too late to be saved or those who become sick.

All of these functions as well as maintenance of the ranch itself are performed by volunteers; no one at RVR is paid. Over 100 volunteers dedicate their time to the ranch and its horses. We are a very diverse group that functions as a cohesive unit in order to save the creatures entrusted to our care. RVR is a family in itself.

I feel so lucky to be a part of RVR. My children and I have gained so much from giving back to these horses. My children have found powerfully positive role models at RVR. They are immersed in an environment of compassion, dedication and hard work. They have witnessed perseverance after painful loss. We are experiencing the very special bonds that can be created between humans and horses, and we have made friends.

I highly recommend RVR as an outlet for people who would like to make a difference in Hillsborough County.

What an incredible journey of volunteering at RVR. Truly an amazing team of angels without wings. They take the worse of the worst, the ones that no other rescue can take. Even when the only thing that can be done is to offer love, comfort & compassion during their last days or hours before they cross over rainbow bridge, they do it. But for the very most part, I've seen and am privileged to be part of fanning the flames of life back into these wonderful creatures of God. Where once was a very sad, neglected, abused horse stood, now stands a mighty steed. Not only healthy, but truly at peace again, with the trust of a human hands touch again... Yes, RVR is truly an amazing place where the voice of the voiceless roars like a lioness guarding her cub...

RVR was established to save starving and abused horses from the brink of death. They may not be able to save all the horses they rescue because the horses are too far gone, but they do the best they can to make their last few days, weeks, months or years better than the ones they endured before. RVR really steps up to the plate and puts the money where their mouth is. It is time to reward this organization for all the good work they do.

Volunteering at RVR Horse Rescue has been the most humbling experiences of my life. I have never seen such a sincere and genuine group of people in my life. I have seen and been a part of some REMARKABLE rescues and transformations in these abandoned and abused horses at RVR. Every thought, every action, every idea.... It's all about the HORSES. RVR Builds and encourages genuine relationships between people and the rescues they take in. The staff takes the time to educate and monitor volunteers until they are at a specific comfort level to be able to groom, feed and show affection to these babies. These horses are fragile souls that need a special level of care and attention. I have seen Shawn, the owner sleep in a stall with a horse over night to comfort and help them pass over the rainbow bridge if that's what it takes. Whatever it takes to save a rescued horse has no dollar sign at RVR. If they have the slightest chance at surviving what they have been through RVR does everything it can to make it happen. My daughter took me to RVR..We walked thru the gate and were greated by the whinning of horses and a big welcome from the volunteers..after a tour..seeing the rescues and hearing the horrible storys of their existance before coming to RVR..The worst cases are brought to RVR..The strength of Shawn Jayroe..her goal in life to provide a santuary for the abused..malnourished and left for dead RVR..is a part of each and every volunteers life..all volunteers water..feed up..clean stalls....alot of stalls and groom..The rescue s receive love..kindness and respect...in turn they give Shawn..a woman who gives all her strength and.volunteetrs give their strength in being United...to keep a tranquil home for the rescues while they are recovering and getting ready for a forever home.I respect all these people and those who donate small or large amounts for this very important piece of heaven in Riverview fla.Put your arms around one of these babys..smell that wonderful hotse smell..hear their heart beating...WHY...THE DEDICATION OF SHAWN JAYROE AND THE RVR FAMILY.

My best friend told me of a horse rescue in Riverview knowing my love of horses and insisted I would love being there. She could not have been more right! Everyone there are absolutely dedicated to helping and saving what alot of us consider the most graceful, heavenly creations ever - a horse. The founder has given everything she has and then some, to start and maintain this equine safe haven. After my first visit, it is now my Zen garden. I enjoy all the volunteers and of course the babies :) Thank you, RVR and Shawn for reminding us unconditional love heals so many and there is hope in humanity. You are admired and appreciated for all you do!

I started volunteering 9 months ago at RVR . Its an awesome rescue they work miracles there. The horses come in skinny and sick abused and neglected and with RVR’s help most survive its amazing to see them trust again after all they been through. They now know they are ok and you see them calm down and relax. It’s an amazing feeling to see them recover from the hell they been through. This is a real horse rescue where its all about the horses wellness. Every horse at RVR is very special. I adopted Romeo he is a very special boy he was very skinny and sick but with a lot of help and the will to live he survived and is doing great. Here’s a warning if you volunteer at RVR you will fall in love with a special horse.

I began volunteering at RVR in December 2013 with my young son and husband. At first we were only going out on Saturday and Sundays, but then started stopping by in the evenings to help feed. This organization is a class act! The love and nourishment that they give the horses that come in is amazing! Everyone is so welcoming and loves to teach things to horse newbies (which we were). The most profound effect that RVR has had on me is that it has shown me that no matter what happens in life, stand up for what you believe in and fight for yourself. I am now currently going thru a divorce which I do not believe I would have had the strength to do if it wasn't for the love and support of my family that I have gained at RVR. I have now adopted two horses from RVR and thank God everyday that RVR is in my life!!!

I have dealt with RVR on several occasions taking horses when they needed placement so they could take in other horses with more pressing needs. The horses get the best care available. They go to further lengths to save a horse's life when others would just give up. The volunteers truly love the animals and work tirelessly day and night even if it means all night in the rain to help a horse in need. Their dedication is unmatched by any other organization that I know of today. If I were in a situation where I could no longer care for my horses, RVR would be the first place I would call because I know that they would work tirelessly to find them the perfect home. And if they couldn't find them a home I know that they would take care of them until their time was up. RVR takes in horses that many other rescues won't even attempt because they know they will have to keep them forever. But it doesn't matter to them. Every horse is a horse worth saving.

I have watched RVR for years grow into an exceptional ORG. The horses there receive the best of care and no expense is spared when rehabilitating them. Its wonderful to look back and see all the wonderful outcomes this Org. has made possible for so many horses that would have otherwise fallen through the cracks. Keep up the incredible work RVR !!

RVR Horse Rescue is one of the best in the State of Florida and from what I have seen probably one of the best in the eastern part of the United States. The incredible dedication to the horses goes beyond what many others do. The people who are on the ground with this Org. give the horses the best of care and love. Many times I have seen horses come into this rescue and instantly you can see the animal knows its safe. The team work is undeniably one that is very well organized. Volunteers who go to great lengths in helping in any way they can. The owner of the facility whom I admire passionately due to the sacrifices she makes in her own life such as the everyday comforts many of us cant imagine doing without. If I was a horse in need I would hope that I would be so lucky to be rescued by RVR. They make sure all the animals get all the individual care that is necessary for each individuals needs.

RVR is the greatest horse rescue I've ever seen, when everyone else gives up on the horse RVR will pull it back from the grave and give it a new lease on life. This is all centered around love, one of the greatest most powerful things in the world. I have seen horses come onto RVR property and when they arrive in there deplorable conditions you can see that they know they are surrounded by love, it's like the horses around them are telling the new horse it's okay you don't have to worry they are here to help. In the process of rehabilitating a horse I have found that I myself have been liberated from my troubles and the pressures of my life are not so much anymore. The staff and the volunteers are very friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous. There is great accountability at RVR also.

RVR is a sanctuary where the worst of the worst starved, abused and neglected horses come to be loved and rehabilitated.
When they arrive at RVR Horse Rescue there is no swishing tail, the head is hanging low, there is no running, no jumping, no playing, no hope.
Within a few days the tail starts to swish again. The head comes up. They look around and they realize they are in a good safe place. As the days, weeks and months pass their new coat begins to come in, their mane and tail begin to shine.
After receiving lots of love, attention and medical care around the clock. It's a beautiful thing to watch their transformations and watch the hope come back into their eyes. Before you know it they are running, jumping, kicking and bucking. The protruding hip and rib bones have long past and they are well on their way to their forever families.
I love RVR Horse Rescue, their mission, everything they are and what they do. There is no better way to spend your spare time than by volunteering and RVR is a great place to do it.

I had heard the name RVR Horse Rescue for several years. Last year, after looking at their website, I decided to donate a little money and then some sand clear. I was always greated warmly and thanked profusely even though my donations were small by standards but what I could afford. I had been following them on Facebook for a short while when I read about 6 horribly neglected horses that had been brought in. I was compelled to go out and offer anything I could do to help. 3 had to be euthanized that night. That was Oct 2013. I began volunteering on a weekly basis. I have never come across such a place of complete dedication in the care, love and total commitment to the animals in need. It was very hard for me in the beginning. I spent most of my time with one horse of the 3 left. She was so sick and emaciated. For 3 weeks she was given the best care possible but didn't make it but she knew love to the end. Through her, I saw what a special group of people I had become a part of. We share our joys and tears together with one purpose in mind, to be the voice for the voiceless. To educate, rescue, rehab through our love and respect for one of the most magnificent creatures on our planet.

I have been volunteering at RVR for over a year. It has become such a part of my families life. I have seen amazing transformations with the horses that had been given up on by the previous owner. Most if not all of the horses at RVR would not be alive today, including my daughters that we so proudly adopted, if it weren't for RVR! The horses at RVR receive around the clock care every day. I am so proud to be apart of a group that stands up for something so important!!

My husband and I have been around horses all our lives. We've followed RVR on Facebook for about a year. The before and after pictures made me want to get more involved. One day I noticed they were having a volunteer orientation. My husband and I went. I couldn't believe how wonderful the place is! Allison took us around and explained the horses history. Its horrific what some monsters can do to these wonderful creatures. RVR is hope. RVR shows those horses love, respect, kindness, empathy. They build them back up and restore. For the ones who don't make it, it's so sad but again they were able to pass knowing what love is. I can't say brought about their passion, love and dedication.

I work with numerous rescues across the country. I am proud to say I have also worked with RVR on securing some very neglected horses from the northeast Florida region. RVR rehabbed these horses and they are all now thriving! Some have new homes and owners. It is always a pleasure to work with such a compassionate rescue. They do everything humanly possible to help the severely neglected equines that come to their place. I never hesitate to call on them when the need arises. RVR is a rescue where horses with broken souls are given a second chance in knowing true love by humans. In return the horses help heal broken souls in humans. And when they can't be saved, they know that they are loved and they are comforted as they cross over the rainbow bridge.

Through my experiences at RVR I found my passion and have learned a lot about myself. Helping restore these amazing animals back to health is now my favorite thing to do. I love seeing the first time they run again, watching their bodies and spirits return to them is what I now live for. The people there are great and friendly, they have become an extended family to me. I learn something everyday from other volunteers. After hearing about this rescue so close to home, I was eager to check it out. Owning a pet sitting business and being a registered nurse, loving and caring come easily but also does an eye for assessing health - body, mind and spirit. Over time, that has come to include both humans and animals. I love being an advocate for the health and well being of both. I was lucky enough to hear of this rescue from a colleague at the hospital where I work and it just so happened the "Run-A-Muck" and Help-A-Horse-Day fundraising event was coming up.
I asked my husband to come with me and off we went to check out this rescue. What we found was amazing. The transformations were incredible and stories heartbreaking. But seeing the majesty, health, vitality, beauty and hope restored in these animals turned the heartbreaking into heartwarming.
Quite a few of the rescued horses were brought back to the ranch to participate in their success story parade after which the horses were put in stalls and people were encouraged to tour the ranch, visit with the owners/sponsors/fosters and learn the stories of the horses, both those already adopted and those in the process of healing. There were a lot of educational displays, before and after pictures and stories, so many volunteers and people obviously passionate about their love for horses and advocating for their proper care. There were no "hidden" or roped off areas, everything and everyone was available to be seen and there wasn't any place that did not have a volunteer available to answer questions or provide information. It was obvious this was a well run rescue supported by passionate, informed people who were there to do the very best they could with the support of the community surrounding them (including veterinary practices, a surgicenter, civic groups and local businesses).
I was so impressed and touched by what I saw, I donated as much as I could that day. I asked about volunteering and unfortunately for me but fortunately for them, they had more volunteers than they needed. It was a heartbreaking yet uplifting experience I will not forget and I will continue to support the hard but fantastic work of this dedicated group of passionate professionals for the foreseeable future. When my finances allows, I hope to be able to sponsor a horse myself! Gob bless these folks for what they do for the abused and neglected horses -- it is miraculous and so desperately needed!

The news story of three Miniature horses rescued in Hillsborough County as the result of an animal cruelty investigation now has a happy ending as two of them, Sandy and her baby Lily, have a new beginning at our home in North Florida.
You see my wife Brenda and I adopted the mother-daughter duo and now they have big pastures in which to run and play, lots of green grass and good feed, plus two Mini horse friends, and most of all people who love and care for them.
I first learned of their plight when I read news accounts in July 2012 of four Minis—Warrior, Spirit, Sandy and Lily—who had been abused by starvation and neglect. RVR Horse Rescue of Riverview had them and their owner, a former deputy, was arrested. Sadly, despite all efforts Warrior did not survive. This upset me so much that I told my wife to call RVR and see if somehow, we could possibly adopt Sandy and Lily, or Little Lily as I like to call her.
I spent 25 years at HCSO (1979-2004), and I am now on my 10th year of retirement. Still have the urge to “serve and protect” especially when it comes to horses, particularly Minis who are so precious and cannot protect themselves. Can we do this? I asked my wife. What are the logistics involved in adopting them, and then getting them all the way to Suwannee County (200+ miles) where we live? She said if I feel in my heart that strongly to do something, then we should!
I am a “softie,” I admit, as we already have rescued a Paint stallion named Chief, Paint horses Rosie and Millie, and two Minis named Misty and her daughter Angel. In these situations, owners could no longer afford to feed them , did not want them, or as in the case of the Minis wanted their pasture space for bigger horses. Some were “free,” (we all know there is no such thing as a ‘free’ horse), others we purchased. We have 24-plus acres for our animals, and our home is on two acres. All total there are now 12 horses, 8 donkeys … Yeah, I know….!
Back to the story: We called RVR and contacted Kitrina Kelly, Community Liaison for RVR. After a number of emails and telephone calls, Kitrina said we were first on the list to adopt Sandy and Lily.
On August 14, we drove down to RVR’s facility to see them, as well as Spirit, then talked with Kitrina; Michelle Russell, medical director; and Shawn Jayroe, president and founder of RVR. We completed all the paperwork for the adoption and two days later, we received a call that Sandy and Lily “had their bags packed” and were ready to go. On Friday, August 17, Michelle Russell and volunteer Kat, who transports for RVR, arrived at our home with a truck and horse trailer. Out stepped Sandy, followed by her baby and their new life began!
Oh yes, more good news. RVR on its Facebook page posted that Spirit had been adopted!
I believe this quotation, attributed to a famous American named Martin Luther King Jr., says it all about why we adopted the Minis: “Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.”
RVR is to be commended for rescuing these precious Minis and working so hard to restore their health so they could be adopted. A great debt of gratitude is due to Kitrina Kelly, who spent untold hours working with the surviving Minis one-on-one so they would see people as friends, not someone who would harm them.
We also offer our thanks to Deputies Judy Whaley and Tammy Cuscaden, both good friends of mine, who took donations, feed, treats and horse care supplies to RVR.
As for Sandy and Lily, they have bonded with our Minis and now they are “a herd.”

We went to RVR before Christmas because a friend of mine at work told me about the place. We were looking for a companion for our 10 year old mini burro. She was a companion for 9 years to our 36 year old quarter horse who recently had to be put down.
We were told about this little pony named "Flower" who would be a great companion pony. When we met Flower it was love at first site--she is a beauty. We decided then and there that this would be a match made in heaven. After all the forms and the look see of our place--Flower came home. Burrito was not sure at first about her but within 2 hours they were buddies.
The two are inseparable. When we bring Flower in at night, Burrito is following right behind and vice versa.
Flower is well behaved although a little skittish until she gets to know you. She loves the apple, carrot or left over candy cane treat the girls get every afternoon.
RVR took Flower away from a bad situation and rehabilitated her into a great pet--Cudos to RVR.

I have followed RVR for quite a long time now and have seen all the wonderful actions she has preformed for the abused, neglected, abandoned and starved horses. This lady has a heart as big as the moon, and will go to any ends to save each and every one of them, she does NOT give up. But ...knows also when the pain and suffering become too great and they do not have any quality of life left, so with her love for the horses, she helps them cross over the Rainbow Bridge to be free of all suffering and find peace. This is one very hard working lady that only has one goal, and it is for the horses to know love and be given a second chance at life. This work is very, very heartbreaking with many tears and prayers, but when the outcome is good, it is very rewarding for the heart and the horse.

When God chose Shawn Jaroe, the owner of RVR Horse Rescue, as His missionary here on earth to save, shelter and care for His horses, He certainly knew what He was doing. He could not have picked someone with a bigger heart, (no matter how many times it is broken over the cruelty inflicted upon the horses she brings home), a stronger will to save them (no matter how impossible the task may seem), a more compassionate, loving nature (she literally lies on the ground with them when they are too weak to stand, and pours kindness into them, willing them to survive), a deeper sense of humility (she goes out of her way not to call attention to herself – and keep the focus where it belongs – on the animals), and a stronger determination to keep going, keep rescuing, keep educating, keep asking for help, keep trying to effect positive permanent change in how horses are treated, in this city, this County, this State, this Country, this WORLD… and there is absolutely no lengths or depths to which this woman will not go to come to the aid of a horse in need.

Another astounding thing you will find if you come to the “Ranch” is that no matter the stage of recovery from starvation, neglect, abuse a horse is in the middle of, they ALL KNOW they are safe now, and their demeanor shows it – there is not a mean one among them – all of them live to love and be loved now – the sadness in their eyes has been replaced with the light of joy in life, the fearful nature has become trusting; and through their experiencing unconditional love and care (many of them for the first time in their lives), they, in turn, are eager to provide the return gift of healing broken hearts and spirits of anyone who is hurting, who comes in contact with them – the most pure and perfect symbiosis at work – something that could only be God ordained and blessed.

It is because of this incredible phenomenon that people are drawn from far and near to come, to take part of being “C.L.E.A.R.” regarding the true place of dignity that the horse was created for – “C.are – L.earn - E.ducate - A.ct - R.escue,” and to be blessed by the love of a horse.

And the most incredible miracle about the whole thing, is that lives (horses AND people) are forever changed for the better. What more could anyone ask?

My 8 year old daughter and I started volunteering for RVR Horse Rescue this past summer 2013. It is an exceptional facility and the owner Shawn Jayroe is a genuine blessing! She will do whatever it takes to be the voice of these horses. The horses that they rescue are in desperate need of love, food, shelter, medical attention, etc.. and RVR is right there to provide it for them. I have personally never seen horses in such a desperate situation nor ones where I could see there ribs and bones for those that have been starving. But the beauty that I can say is that I've never seen the dedication like at RVR to provide for these horses and the transformations and turn around these horses make in such a short time. My daughter and I are blessed to be a part of such an amazing non-profit organization and daily look forward to our next visit doing whatever we can to do our part for RVR as well. Please come out and take a look and experience RVR for yourself, I guarantee it will touch your heart and make a change in you personally!! Thanks again RVR for all that you do! Amazing!!!!

RVR Horse Rescue is a very hard working organization that rehabilitates and shelters abused and neglected horses and ponies . Shawn Jayroe and the volunteers educate and inform the public about equine health, or lack of it, and safety. Rehabilitated animals can be "adopted" or “sponsored”. I enjoy volunteering here, and spending time with animals that do not deserve the life that was thrown at them. Shawn is amazing, and so are all of the volunteers. I have adopted the two loves of my life from RVR. Starr is a 30 plus year old Cracker Horse who was close to death when he was seized by the sheriff's department and Luke was a 10 month old baby living in a chicken coop and being fed dog food.

They really appreciate the hours that go into volunteering in whatever capacity you choose to help out. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend volunteering with this organization.

Being a volunteer at RVR Horse Rescue is fantastic! I started getting into horse rescuing about 3 years ago. It took me some time to finally land at RVR after being at other rescues. RVR is hands down the BEST rescue I have ever had the pleasure of volunteering. The owner is SO dedicated to the HORSES. She strives to make the best decision for every horse. The medical team is phenomenal! They work into all hours of the night to work as hard as possible to get every horse back to health. The success of RVR can be seen from the multiple horses who have found loving homes and from the horses who were skin and bones with broken spirits who are now frolicking around the pastures at RVR. Everything is very organized for the daily routine and rescues, and everyone is happy to be there. I have nothing but amazing things to say about RVR and I hope that everyone finds out about this place and donates time and money if possible to help :)

I have been volunteering only a short time at RVR. However, it is easy to see that this rescue is devoted to giving all horses a chance at a happy and safe home. I am proud to be involved with such a great origination. Every horse that comes off the trailer is greeted with volunteers ready and willing to do anything necessary to give these horses a loving and safe stay at RVR for as long as needed. It hurts my heart knowing that this abuse happens, but, without a place like RVR Horse Rescue, no one would know about it. Shawn has made it her life's mission to help and be the voice for these horses.

I can't give time but I can give financially to RVR and know without hesitation 100% of my contribution will be put to good to good use. I've been involved with many NFP's (volunteer and management) and truly admire the vision and execution of Founder Shawn Jayroe and the dedication of the all-voumteer staff. There's something uniquely special and compelling about this group. To see the transformation they bring about is truly remarkable - the power of unbridled love in evidence.

The phone rings and a voice on the other end says ' We are almost there' volunteers start preparing for what is coming in. A stall or two has been freshly cleaned, everyone is filled with joy and sadness all at the same time . Joy that another horse gets a chance at life but sad that it has to happen at all . The horse trailer comes down the road and where the blacktop ends a new life begins for a new rescue . They come from all kinds of places ,Sometimes by themselves and sometimes with a friend or two or three . But they come and they come in all kinds of conditions . Some are so malnourished with just the skin hanging on there bones and you wonder how they can even stand . I have often looked into their eyes and wished they could tell me their story . Often times you see that glimmer of hope in their eyes and can tell they are thanking RVR for that fresh tasting hay on their lips . Other rescues that have been there a while seem to come to the fence and greet the new arrivals and tell them they made it to a safe place and no more will they be at the mercy of there abuser . Not many people would take on the task of being a voice for the voice less .But RVR Horse Rescue has accepted the calling and thank God they did and I thank God that I can be part of it . The word Blessed can be pronounced one of two ways , "Blessed or Bles-sed . Walk through the gates of RVR and you will agree that its a Bles-sed place. and you will be Blessed for coming .

The day I first visited RVR horse rescue was the second day for a very old mare named Val. I could not believe my eyes. I could not believe what someone had done to this horse through neglect and abuse. Even though they had already been working on Val for a day she was still covered with painful burrs. She had patches of hair missing and she was nothing but a bag of bones. I began to cry. and my husband and I asked if it would be possible to volunteer.

We have been with RVR for 19 months now and I have enjoyed each and every minute of it. It has done so much and has transformed my life. When I came to RVR I had a problem with depression. RVR gave me a new lease on life and working with the horses has changed me as I learned about them and watched the new arrivals transform. If I happen to start feeling blue all I have to do is step through those gates and look at those sweet faces waiting for me and I feel my blues fade away. Each horse has a very distinct personality and I love them all.

I actually consider myself an RVR rescue. I am one of it's people rescues. Thanks RVR for all you do for horses and for people. I love you!

I have volunteered at RVR horse rescue for over a year now. The relationships I have grown to develop with the horses and the people have truly been a blessing in my life. Never in my life would I have thought so many women could get along but I have formed friendships here that I will never forget. The horses we get in that are so emaciated and broken down break my heart, but it is because of the loving and caring people out here we are able to give them a life with love and care! I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone who is looking to help these poor animals who have no voice. We are here to save the horses but it is RVR Horse Rescue that has saved me. Xoxo

Never have I been so happy to be part of the best horse rescue I have ever come into contact with. Myself along with my husband volunteer our time and expertise in horse health. RVR is dedicated to giving horses a fighting chance to live a life free of neglect and abuse. My Husband Dr. Richard Gold D.V.M recommends RVR because of there ethics and pursuit of education to the public regarding equine welfare. We support them and urge everyone else to join in.
Shawn Jayroe is the founder and president of RVR. She gives everything she has to the welfare and protection of horses. She herself does not own horses because she does not want to take up space from possible rescue horses. Shawn is very well versed in equine husbandry with a diverse background in all walks of horsemanship. We are thankful to be part of such an amazing organization.

The kindness, love and caring I saw among the staff and volunteers at RVR was inspiring. So inspiring, that I'll be traveling back to RVR from my home in WA state as often as possible. RVR fills a need that should never have to be met, but does it with compassion and dedication. It's a joy and an honor to do what I can for this organization.

RVR replaces despair with hope, abuse with kindness.
RVR strives to bring health, healing and happiness to those it touches.
When you visit RVR, look into the eyes of the horses. You will see into the souls of creatures willing to give humankind another chance. You will see strength beyond measure. I volunteer because I believe in those that make up RVR and I believe in the horses.

Written For Patti Almskog:

I met Shawn Jayroe approximately 20 years ago at her salon, "Hair perfections". It was immediately clear that this lady had a passion for horses. Initially I kind of thought she was a little crazy however as I got to know her I began to understand her passion for helping them.

Shawn started with only two horses and after rescuing them she brought them back to health and found them forever homes. She actually hired a professional photographer to take pictures and she showed them to anyone who want to look.

Now we fast forward to present day and Shawn and I have reconnected. I came to RVR horses rescue for the first time and was blown away to see how her dream had become a reality. It started as just a small seed of a dream and now it is a beautiful world where horses can find sanctuary, love and healing. It is so inspiring to see how her dream has become reality.

I would like to say one last thing about RVR Horse Rescue. It not only helps horses, but it also helps people. I began to volunteer with my youngest daughter Sydney after a painful life event. RVR has helped us heal emotionally as we work with the horses and the other volunteers. Thanks so much Shawn for pursuing your dream because without you the world would be a lot more bleak for horses and for people.

I have worked with horses in many capacities in the past and wanted to do something worthwhile with them again.
A friend of mine has been an RVR volunteer since April and I've been coming to volunteer for the past few weeks.
The difference you see in these horses is PHENOMENAL! They put on weight, they learn to trust people again and they are just so wanting to be treated like horses instead of door mats.
Romeo came in in such poor shape that I thought he was a goner. I combined hello and goodbye when I met him for the first time. Last week we gave him a bath. It must have felt so good to him to get this attention since he put his head under my arm for a hug after we finished.
He still has a long way to go, but at least he is getting there.

I so respect the people there who volunteer their time to help these animals. They face the misery many of these animals are in and donate love, affection, and caring. That is priceless and not something everyone can do. They are gunuinely happy and optomistic envisioning a good place for each and every horse there. I have never met such a dedicated positive group of volunteers united in one cause as those at RVR.

I have lost a daughter, a vehicle and countless hours of peace of mind to RVR Horse Rescue. It has been almost a year now since my initial loss and the loss intensifies every day. MY DAUGHTER IS A 24/7/365 DAYS volunteer at RVR and I celebrate my loss by sharing her day's activities, good/not-so-good/tragic, with her at the end of her RVR day be it 10 PM or 2:0 AM.

RVR Horse Rescue is an organization that serves no purpose but to RESCUE ANY/ALL ABUSED EQUINES they possibly can. They "fight" for the horses’ rights, if necessary, to be removed from abusive situations, and be placed in an environment where they receive personalized care for each horse's specific needs, i.e., specially formulated feed (fed 2/3/4/5/6 times a day), horses are stalled/pastured/penned according to their personalities, abilities, needs, etc.

The horses receive regular, routine equine “maintenance” such as farrier work (in many instances some of the horses have NEVER had any farrier work done), initial vet exam with needed vaccines and follow ups, each horse is hand-washed by loving volunteers.

This is as short a review as I can possibly give on RVR Horse Rescue; from my own personal knowledge, I could write a lengthy book on their attributes and lovingly given efforts to equines in need. Please know that RVR Horse Rescue accomplishes all they do with volunteers only and contributions. THINK WHAT THEY COULD ACCOMMPLISH IF THEY HAD A BROAD DEPENDABLE CONTRIUTOR BASE.

I first became aware of RVR 10/2012 when our Equine Vet examined 2 abused, neglected and starved horses.. confiscated by the sheriffs's dept.....prior to their transfer to RVR . She said they would eventually be needing a home. Long story short..... I went on-line....found RVR....and started following the progress of these 2 rescued horses.....(and some of the other rescued horses!) In 4 months these 2 creatures have blossomed! They look gorgeous now...so much better!! (Unfortunately...the previous owner let a cancer go untreated on one of them...so it is beyond surgical remedy! :-( The owner of RVR will give this horse his forever home with love at RVR if he is not adopted.
I live a couple of hours away from RVR...but recently was able to visit. It was an amazing place....All "stages" of rescues...... One adorable baby ready to leave because he was adopted....running around :-) ..... beautiful horses you can see that have made amazing progress in their recovery from near death because of starvation .....their eye's showing trust again... allowing us to pet them!
There were 2 poor babies who had just been brought in a day or 2 before...barely able to stand.... the pain and weakness so apparent. Shawn (the owner of RVR) had just been lying down with one of the horses in her stall....the one with the worst case of founder..... whispering to her...loving her.....feeding her whatever she would/could eat. The other horse (also foundered)...looking in on them...over the stall wall. (He had had a very rough night....having been helped up with a sling one of the volunteers had driven 3 hrs for!
They had considered helping one go over the rainbow bridge...because of the pain...and they didn't want her to suffer! But...like Shawn said....She still had a twinkle in her eye...still had the will to live! As long as that's there....we will still fight to help her!!
A week later....they're both improving :-)
As a donor....I know that EVERYTHING I give...goes to helping these gorgeous creatures. Take an afternoon and visit RVR.... If you live far away...take a few minutes and look at their web site! You will agree... This is a worthwhile nonprofit. They rescue horses from other "Rescues" (Amazing!)

I volunteer here on a weekly basis and I absolutely LOVE it, the things this organization does for these horses is so touching and they really do make miracles. The horses that come in are in such terrible shape it makes my heart ache for them. Seeing the success stories is truly inspirational. They are a non profit organization so all the vet fees, food etc. are paid for through donations. To donate you can go to rvrhorserescue.com and save lives!
