About 9 months ago I was looking for a volunteer opportunity with horses and rescue preferably. Researching various rescues not far from Tampa I came across RVR horse rescue. I started following them on social media and watched the many videos of heartbreaking rescues as well as the heartwarming happy endings as rescued horses found their new forever homes. I was a horse fanatic from an early age and had the good fortune to have been exposed to various equine disciplines throughout the years including owning and retraining my own horses but a horse rescue would be a new experience for me. From day one I have felt very welcome and appreciated. It has been an amazing experience so far. The new location is amazing, I don’t know if it’s more therapeutic for me or for the horses but the positive impact of the beautiful new location is felt by all. I’ve watched numerous horses move onto their forever homes leaving as shiny, healthy and happy horses which is what it’s all about. I’ve made new friends and not just the four “hooved” kind as we all share the passion and commitment to take care of these horses and help them on their journey. I look forward to continuing to help in whatever way I can as I love what RVR horse rescue is all about. ( see even Polygram is smiling)
I started volunteering for RVR over 6.5 years ago. After never being a "horse person," I almost immediately fell in love with the rescues and rescuers. RVR always has the horses' best interests in mind, and I have seen miracles happen.
This is a great group of volunteers that do amazing things. This is a place where you can come without any prior experience, and they will train you on how to take care of the horses to whatever level is comfortable for you. There are many dedicated experts to learn from, and RVR takes on the most difficult cases. there are many people from different areas of expertise to help in any situation!
RVR horse rescue saved my boy 2 years ago. He was one of the slipper stallions. Without RVR my boy would not be where he was today. He has fully recovered and is doin amazing!
RVR is truly amazing. Rescuing and saving the lives of horses who have no voice and are left to fight for life on their own. They are an amazing place to volunteer and give love and attention to horses who have been broken. I have been volunteering here for 2 years now and it is a bit of heaven on Earth.
Dedicated, knowledgeable volunteers who are well renowned in the horse community for taking on the toughest cases and working miracles. A great group of people who come together every day to take care of horses.
Amazing professionals who do their magic on the toughest cases!
One of the only regrets I have of moving out of the state of Florida is that I am no longer able to volunteer at RVR. You will not find a more caring, compassionate, dedicated group of people than you can at RVR. They do everything they can to help save horses, donkeys, and others and when allowing them to cross the rainbow bridge is the best choice, that animal is surrounded by more people who love it than it has seen its entire life. Everything there is a labor of love and done by those who hear the call to be a voice for those that do not have one. They stand up for what is right, provide education to the community, and most importantly, they help the helpless find trust again and give them their chance at a happily ever after!
I've been a volunteer at RVR Horse Rescue for over eight years. During that time I have seen numerous horses that arrived at the rescue near death from severe illnesses or injuries caused by neglect or abuse. That is RVR's specialty to take the severe cases that show questionable recovery and rise to the challenge of giving that horse the best care possible for however long it might take. Their results are amazing, especially when you take into account that this is an all volunteer run facility.
RVR's volunteers work together to get jobs done and it is so rewarding to be a part of their team. It’s not only a healing place for the animals but for the people who volunteer there as well. Many of the volunteers have referred to RVR as their “happy place” and I have to agree with that.
Three years ago I was looking for a volunteer organization that helped animals. I read an article about RVR Horse Rescue and the amazing work they do with badly neglected and abused horses. I became a volunteer shortly after that day. I continue to be in awe of the sincere dedication of all the volunteers. There are all ages working there, from young children who come with one or more relatives to senior citizens. I have seen rescued animals that I never thought would survive, animals that no one wanted or cared for. RVR is a miracle ranch and I have seen the proof. The horses are given the very best of care, many times it is round the clock care. Everyone is encouraged to use their talents and strengths to help the animals. RVR's caring spirit is also evident in the friendships and bonds that have been formed between the volunteers. I am unable to own or adopt a horse but thanks to RVR's Barn Buddies and Sponsorship programs, I am encouraged to form a bond with a particular horse, giving her individual attention when I'm there. It is just one more way I feel like I'm making a difference every time I go there. RVR Horse Rescue is an amazing place. I have seen all the good they have done for animals these past three years and with continued support they will just keep getting better.
RVR Horse Rescue is one of the most amazing and unconditional places I have ever volunteered for. The staff and volunteers dedicate their time endlessly to provide care and love for the horses and property at such a high-quality level. I'm so appreciative to be a part of the RVR volunteer team. Thank you RVR Horse Rescue for all you do!
I have been involved with RVR Horse Rescue since 2013. Over the years I have seen incredible recoveries of so many abused and neglected horses (and donkeys and piggies) come out the side and find their perfect adopter people.
You couldn’t find a more dedicated group of volunteers.
I have volunteered for over 3 years with RVR Horse Rescue in Riverview, Florida. I have seen so many wonderful endings to horses who were on death's door and brought back to a healthy condition. They just had a colt born to a mare who was sold to a kill buyer last August - both mare and colt are doing fine now! My own horse had been so severely abused he didn't trust anyone to even touch him. But through patience and time, he is now a pocket pony! They take the worst of the worst and give them a chance at life and plenty of love.
I discovered RVR almost 6 years ago and it has been a life-changing experience. I've never met a more dedicated and genuinely caring group of people who all band together for the sake of abused and neglected horses. The recovery stories of some of the worst cases are nothing short of miracles. RVR is truly a magical place where horses and humans come to be healed.
If there was ever a legitimate place to donate your hard-earned dollars or your valuable time to truly make a difference - RVR Horse Rescue is that place. This amazing healing haven is managed by one incredible woman and her dedicated board of directors (100% volunteer), supported by an army of volunteers who help run the rescue. RVR welcomes and rehabilitates abused and neglected horses that are often near the brink of death. Sometimes there are miraculous outcomes, but sometimes the battered soul crosses over the rainbow bridge with their RVR Horse Angels at their side until the very end. I was so moved by the amazing people, the beautiful horses, and the serene environment, that I brought the story of RVR to life in a book entitled: A Healing Haven - Saving Horses and Humans at RVR Horse Rescue. The book allows us to share RVR's amazing story with those who can't experience it firsthand. Being a part of RVR Horse Rescue has changed my life for the better and you would not be disappointed to support this very worthy cause.
I came to RVR Horse Rescue in 2013. I volunteered at a Horse farm in Wisconsin and when I moved back to Florida in 2012 I missing horses terribly. I came across RVR Website and went out on a day they were having a rummage sale and it was open to the public. I was Immediately greeted by friendly volunteers. Once they found out I was a "horse" person they took me under their wings, showed me the horses and property and the process to volunteer. I have been here ever since. I have seen the horse rescue grow into such an amazing organization. The care and unwavering dedication (24/7 365) to care for the horses is incredible. I am honored to be the Volunteer Law Enforcement Liaison & Training Coordinator for our LART (Large Animal Rescue Team) unit. We have evolved in our training and are working with our local Fire Department, State Agricultural representatives, local and State animal shelters and are in partnership with National Animal Rescues and Training organizations as well. Our team has taken and hosted advanced training for Large Animal Rescue and we will continue into the future. I am so proud to be a member of this organization. Under the direction of our founder and leader Shawn Jayroe our Board Members, chairs and Incredible volunteers We Are The Voice of the abused and neglected horses and we will Never Stop. MJ (MaryJo Abbatiello)
This is an incredible horse rescue. They do amazing work for the horses.
I have been a volunteer with RVR for 6 years. I feel blessed to be part of such an amazing rescue. Amazing place, Amazing people.
I came to RVR Horse Rescue to sponsor a donkey about 5 years ago. After a bit I began as an official volunteer. The people at RVR have welcomed me and taught me so much. I adopted one of the horses that came in severely emaciated. I was very nervous to own a horse but RVR has a way of making sure each horse that is adopted out goes to the right person. He is the perfect horse for me. I cannot say enough about the work they do. Upon arrival horses in such bad shape seem to know that they have found a safe and loving landing. I’m cannot imagine my life without RVR.
I started volunteering over 4 years ago and just fell in love with this organization. I was able to adopt the best horse in the world they saved his life! Unfortunately abusing horses is far to common and without an organization like RVR many would die without knowing love and care. RVR is 100% volunteer run, no one gets paid. They have an amazing group of volunteers who work many hours to care for and love the resident horses.
Became a volunteer at this rescue 5 years ago. They take in some of the worst case scenarios and in many cases turned those horses lives around. They are amazing at what they do. I've seen them take in 8 horses in one save and 15 in another. That is huge when they are all arriving starved, scared and abused.
I started volunteering at RVR Horse Rescue in 2013. I have seen many horses come through the gates and all of them quickly learn they are safe and loved. I am proud to be part of this amazing team of volunteers and the beautiful horses that we get to love and care for
I have supported many nonprofits over the years, either financially or by volunteering, and have never seen such a dedicated group of volunteers as the one at RVR Horse Rescue. These are people giving everything they have and then some to save animals that you may think are beyond help. Everything I have ever seen the team do for the horses at RVR has been done with love, respect and an understanding of what is needed both medically and mentally to give the horses the very best chance at recovery. I consider myself very lucky to be part of the team at RVR. I'm inspired by the tenacity and will to live shown by these horses and forever touched by the mix of practicality and love that underlies how the team cares for them. They never let these horses down no matter what their prognosis. If they cannot be saved, RVR volunteers will make sure the last things they know are the gentle sounds of loving voices and the touch of hands that want only to comfort them. If they do have a chance at recovery, RVR will fight every step of the way for them. Every bit of what is donated goes right back into the care and rehibilitation of these horses. I can't recommend RVR highly enough.
i have followed RVR Horse Rescue online for several years and have always been amazed at what they do, how strong they are to do it and how their skill and caring show with every one of their horses. They save so many and find them loving homes and the care and love they show to those they cannot save is equally amazing. When I visited them with a donation of supplies, they could not have been more gracious and generous with their time as they introduced me to their herd. Since that time, I have watched many of the horses I met heal physically and mentally. All are treated with love and respect. I have never been so amazed at a group of volunteers and what they accomplish.
As a past volunteer and adopter, I can say without reservation, that RVR is a wonderful, caring environment.
Have been following RVR from the beginning and have witnessed many abused horses given rehabilitation back to quality lives and opportunities to experience unconditional love. 100% dedication given by volunteers day and night devoted to fight for those with the will to live. Offers education and encourages others in the community to be aware of these horses silent cries for help from Abuse
RVR Horse Rescue has given me back faith in humanity. Giving back love and life to some of God's magnificent animal creations. Restoring hearts of both horse and human. Soon as you walk thru the gate you feel the love.
Look into the eyes of the horses and see their spirit and life returing. Become the voice for these animals unit and stamp out abuse.
RVR Horse Rescue is an amazing group of people doing everything they can to rescue and rehabilitate horses. The facility is beautiful, people are welcoming and best of all, the horses receive great care.
I went to RVR horse rescue to meet horses for the possibility of adoption. I immediately felt such a calming feeling once I pulled onto the property. I was greeted by a wonderful volunteer named Stacy. As I was on the tour with Stacy, I could clearly see the dedication of RVR to saving horses and how exactly great the people involved in this operation are. I read several of the horses stories a few nights before my appointment. When I seen them in person and to know the condition they were in when they arrived at the rescue made my eyes swell with tears of joy to see such humanity. I knew right then, I had to be apart of this some how. Then as if Stacy could see through my eyes to my heart, she asked if I would be interested in volunteering as well. Yes, yes, yes!! I sponsored to adopt Dusty and Sugar. During that time, I came and volunteered then would spend time with Dusty and Sugar. I was blessed enough to be considered worthy of adopting Dusty and Sugar. Yay!! Awesome, approved to bring the babes home and volunteering. I couldn't be happier. Dusty lived at the rescue for over 2 years. He came in with another senior named Misty. Dusty and Misty are very attached. Shawn Jayroe always keeping her herds best interest in mind
discussed me fostering Misty, so her and Dusty can stay together. Yes, yes, yes!! Another dream to come true... to help more than just mine. Oct. 29, 2016 Dusty, Misty, and Sugar came home with me. I continue to volunteer and tell my friends and family all the time how great RVR is. I have never seen anyone mistreat any of the horses. I have seen nothing but love, care, blood, sweat, and tears poured into RVR horse rescue. I am not saying this because I adopted and volunteer there. I would have never went back after the first time, if I felt uneasy or seen one thing I found unfit. I was and still truly awed. I have never been one to donate to many organizations in fear of my funds being used inappropriately. I'd rather see the money go to what it is really supposed to and not into someone's pocket to live large. It is obvious all funds are put back into the rescue and not frivolously used. Sorry for the long story but I could go on forever about how awesome RVR is for horses and humans. ❤❤
Amazing organization! 100% volunteer! 92% rescue to adoption rate !
I have been part of RVR along with my husband Richard Gold DVM for the past 4 years. RVR has saved many of horses in Hillsborough County and will continue to. Every dollar that is raised goes directly to the horses. NO ONE is payed, RVR is 100% volunteer run!
I had been looking for a volunteer position working with horses, found RVR and signed up for orientation, that was 2 years ago. I have met some of the most dedicated hard working individuals, male, female, all ages and sizes working together. To nurse these beautiful animals back to health.
I've been involved with this rescue for nearly 6 years and I'm still amazed at the dedication of the volunteers and the sheer grit of the people who run this non-profit. Of the nearly all-women group of volunteers, not one person is paid, including the board members. Every cent donated is used to help horses in need. The amazing horse angels of RVR Horse Rescue are tireless in their pursuit of helping horses, recently accepting 15 paso fino horses who had been neglected and abused. The place and the people are heaven-sent. Truly an organization worthy of support.
I've been blessed to be a part of RVR Horse Rescue for nearly three years and I felt the magic from the very first time I stepped on the property. The founder and owner has dedicated her life to saving these majestic animals and she sacrifices many things in life for the sake of the horses. The volunteers are an amazing group of caring people and there is no paid staff, meaning every cent of donation goes directly to the care of the horses. Best of all, many horses find their second chance at life after being abused or neglected. RVR specializes in taking the worst of the worst cases and it's beautiful to see their transformations back to good health. I am proud to have written a book that highlights many amazing recoveries. 'A Healing Haven' tells the inspirational true story of Shawn Jayroe, her horse angels (volunteers), and the horses they've saved. RVR is truly a healing haven for both horses and humans.
RVR HORSE RESCUE IS AN AMAZING PLACE THEY ARE HORSE ANGELS .. THEY ARE THE VOICES OF THOSE WHO CAN'T SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES!! THEY GIVE THIER ALL TO EVERY HORSE YHAT COMES THROUGH THOSE GATES!! I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD ABOUT RVR HORSE RESCUE AND ALL THE VOLUNTEERS!! BEST RESCUE EVER!!
THESE HORSES COULDN'T ASK TO BE AT A BETTER PLACE THAN RED HORSES RESCUE THE LOVE THE CARE AND ALL THE AWSOME VOLUNTEERS AND SHAWN JAYROE FOR HER HUGE HEART TO GIVE THESE BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS A SAFE PLACE WITH OUT HER LOVE FOR THESE ANIMALS THEY WOULDN'T HAVE A CHANCES AND WITH ALL THE HELP AND LOVE FROM THE VOLUNTEERS THEY MAKE SUCH A BEAUTIFUL DIFFERENCE IN THESE HORSES LIVES THAT THEY SO DESERVE MYSELF AND MY GRANDAUGHTERS ARE SO PLEASED TO HELP OUT WHEN WE CAN I JUST WISH SO MANY MORE PEOPLE WOULD OPEN THEY HEART WITH EVEN A SMALL DONATION OR SOME VOLUNTEERING IT IS SO WORTH GIVING THESE BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS A CHANCES AT A BETTER LIFE AND TO LET THEM KNOW THEY LIVES DO MATTER AND SHAWN IN MY BOOK YOU ARE A HERO.... I LOVE BEING A SMALL PART
I have been a volunteer for 5 years. RVR has the most compassionate, dedicated hard working group of people I have ever seen. Every person is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of the horses that find themselves in horrible situations. I am so grateful for RVR and the people that make RVR possible.
I have been volunteering several times per week at RVR for the past year and half. Every day I get to be blow away by the selfless acts of all involved. The care, passion, education and well being of the horses and other animals is the heart beat of ever person involved. Best thing that has ever happened to me was the day I walked through the gates of RVR.
Amazing organization! Takes the worst of the worst and changes lives. They rescued me and my Love, My Onyx
RVR is an amazing place where you see complete transformations of neglected, emaciated and/or abused horses. They sometimes come in terrified and miserable and are afraid of any human within their personal space. Often, in months they can become happy, healthy horses. Many of the horses end up with careers and showing. It’s a beautiful transformation and an honor to watch.
After much research of horse rescues, I chose RVR and I am so glad I did. What an awesome organization to be a part of where the safety of all and the love and care of these horses is second to none. I’m proud to be a volunteer here, and your efforts are rewarded by not only the fantastic team RVR has assembled, but by the improvements you see with these horses. I drive a long way to volunteer here, passing by other rescues, but it’s well worth it!!!
I started volunteering at RVR in 2013. I have always loved horses and had them in the past, but never saw the kind of abuse and neglect that the horses who come into the rescue have suffered. I have seen some incredible recoveries, and have helped several cross the Rainbow Bridge, knowing they were loved. No one cares for their horse like RVR Horse Rescue does! The first picture is when my horse, Goliath, first came to the rescue with 5 others. the second is after I adopted him. Such a change.
In 2009 my husband lost his battle with cancer. I was lost. Several years later I found RVR Horse Rescue in Riverview, Florida. I have always loved horses, showed hunter/jumpers as a high school student, then got them again after I was married, so this seemed like a great fit for me. Little did I know how great it would be. I was amazed at the care and love all the volunteers had for these horses who found them selves in horrendous circumstances due to no fault of their own. About a month after I started there, they took in 6 horses from another "rescue". All were in horrible shape. One horse in particular was also very traumatized and had had several of his front teeth knocked out. I was able to make a connection with him, and several months later adopted him. I have seen so many stories like mine, both people and horses coming out of bad situations and learning the thrive again. RVR puts the horses first, but in doing so, helps people too. It is just such a great place with wonderful, caring volunteers.
I started volunteering here to get closer and learn about the animals I’ve loved since childhood. The experience is well beyond what I could have imagined. I have met, and continue to meet, extraordinary people who give without question. I’ve seen transformations of horses we take in, in as little as a day. It’s as if they know they are in a better place immediately. The haven that has been built here on the backs of the volunteers that the owner Shawn Jayroe has united in this cause, has been nothing less than amazing. And the love for what they do continues to grow along with the education and tireless advocacy for the horses and those who love them.
RVR is the greatest non profit. The people are hard working caring and most welcoming. I would have never imagined a place like this existed and I’m so blessed that it does. I love you RVR!
They work very hard to help these animals. They are volunteers and do it from the kindness of their hearts. The horses come to them emaciated and in need of care.
Love this organization and what they do! They do a great job for these poor animals in need.
Great Non Profit, excellent volunteer and who give up alot of time to help these horses in need.
Wonderful, fantastic volunteers!! It’s a great non profit organization!!!
RVR is amazing and Vanessa is great! The volunteers are hard working, dependable and knowledgeable.
The best rescue, I was introduced through a local barn that my daughter rode at, we went as a group to volunteer and that was it I was hooked. Throughout the years I have gone out with my daughters it has been the best decision as a mother I have made. The confidence, compassion and life lessons my daughters are learning I couldn’t get anywhere else. Are there days the tears run down my face over the loss of one of God’s majestic creatures yes but knowing every wa done and that the horses we have lost were suoorinded by living hands and kind words is worth the pain and then the triumph stories we are able to save and bring back to the glory they should be in are amazing. We were blessed to adopt one of the beautiful babies for a friend of our other horse and it has been awesome. The rescue is a family and a healing place for all that walk through the gates. So blessed to have this place and I don’t know what I would do without it.
RVR has helped me through so much throughout the years from finding the confidence needed with horses to not letting the hurtful words of others affect me. I have been actively volunteering for 4 years and love every moment of it. December 29, 2017 I found my soul horse through RVR and on April 28, 2018 I officially adopted him and brought him to his forever home. His name is Bon Jovi, an American paint gelding who was originally a krypt, and is best friends with Loki, a dun quarter horse mare, they are souls mates and practically glued at the hip
I found my purpose at RVR! I find myself planning my week around being there as much as possible. Before RVR, if you told me working in the heat for free would be something that I loved and looked forward to, I would have said you were nuts! The people are amazing and so willing to teach anyone who wants to learn. And the horses.... every one of them has my heart! RVR makes me want to be a better person... what more could I ask for?
I have been following RVR horse rescue and wish they were closer to where I live so I could volunteer. I have loved horses for as long as I can remember and appreciate all the caring and hard work this organization does . Keep up the good work!
I have followed RVR for awhile now on Facebook! I love the way they rescue and care for theses beautiful horses! One day, right before Christmas I saw they had rescued a horse named Star who was a Morgan! My Grandmother's horse was named Star and was part Morgan! Her Birthday was right after Christmas! What better way to honor my beloved Grandmother then to give a couple of donations for Star in my Grandmothers memory! I loved her very much! Love RVR!!!!!!!
I had started lessons with a new trainer in Feb. 2016. I was having a great time riding different ottb's and friends horses. Something was missing though and I knew that the time had come for me to start to casually look for a horse that would be good for me and my children to love and have fun with. My trainer suggested RVR. I went out to look at an ottb that they had to possibly do jumpers/eventing with. This grey gelding kept following me around the paddock and he was cute but shorter than I was even considering. When I went to leave the paddock he wickered to me and Lisa Gold was surprised as he really had not been much of a people horse thus far. So I went back and checked him out and as I looked into his eyes something clicked. This was MY horse. I sponsored him for 2 months but really knew from the first moment that he was mine, LOL. We have overcome many obstacles with his fear of humans and he is just an amazing pony! This horse has stolen my heart and I cannot believe that he was bought from a slaughter pen! He went to his first dressage show and he was AMAZING! He has been doing 10+ mile Hunter paces this year and he is a star in my book. He loves my kids, everyone at the barn, the dogs, and now instead of hiding from people he is the barn's Welcome Wagon at the entrance. The care and work that RVR puts into each and every horse, the facility, and in placing these horses into the right family is unparalled. I will be back for another soon, as soon as we have our property as Crosby will need a friend.
RVR is an amazing place where horses and humans are healed. RVR is a 100% volunteer run organization that specializes in caring for and bringing back to life those who have suffered the worst forms of abuse and neglect. The rescue's goal is to completely rehabilitate these rescues and find them what every horse deserves, a forever loving home. I have volunteered at other animal rescues over the years and none of them have matched the integrity, dedication, and innovation of RVR. This Rescue is dedicated to not only make a difference for individual animals but also in the much needed area of educating and empowering the public through the CLEAR Campaign (Care, Learn, Educate, Act, Rescue) and the Horse Angels Program which was created to offer temporary assistance for those who just need a little help to get back on their feet. In addition, RVR now has over 30 volunteers who have trained and received their Large Animal Rescue Certifications to be of even greater service to equines in need.
I entered the gates of RVR Horse Rescue over 6 years ago as a volunteer and I'm still here today! So proud to be a part of this incredible organization!
My husband & I first learned about RVR Horse Rescue from a local news broadcast about a rescue of 8 horses in July 2016. We requested a tour of the ranch and knew that we needed to join this wonderful group of caring volunteers to help in any possible way. We already had two horses but we have adopted two more from RVR and we are so happy to be involved in this great effort to rescue and help these horses. RVR is making such a difference in our community, both in the loving care & rehabilitation of the horses, but also in educating people and raising awareness.
The people at the rescue work so hard to make a better life for the animals there. It was truly amazing to see the positive changes in the lives of the animals they rescue.
Amazing organization, everyone is so dedicated to the horses.
My wife and I just adopted Silver Knight from RVR. Let me first start off by saying no one, and I mean NO ONE gives these abused and neglected animals as much love as RVR does. Our adoption counselor Stacy did an absolute phenomenal job from start to finish. She made us feel welcomed from the moment we entered RVR to the moment we left with Silver. She's a sweetheart and a gem, and in my eyes, gives RVR the reputation that it so deserves. Sergio did a great job instructing my wife in riding discipline with our horse, and she did not have one negative word to say after her riding lesson. From here on out, we will be adopting for life. Thank You RVR, and thank you for the love, attention, and dedication you show these beautiful giants.
I want to share the story of how we came across Silver Knight. If you don't believe in fate, well maybe my story will prove you wrong. The first thing I want to mention is that ever since I was a young teen I dreamed of owning a large dapple grey horse and naming him Lancelot (Inspired by the movie First Knight). This fantasy horse has still been very much a dream that has been kept alive in my mind and heart, but truly just a fantasy and something I never thought could become a reality. So, here's the story. Around Christmas Eve I joked with my Husband and said "Yknow, I sure would like Santa to bring me a horse next year" and kinda without missing a beat He was like ...'Listen, this summer I will build you a stall and we can get you a horse for Christmas.' We even shook hands on it! Since that day I've been dreaming of horses and just looking forward to the future. One weekend not too long ago, on a whim we decided to go to a local Flea Market. Believe it or not the flea market had a horse rescue right there (Ya gotta love the country lifestyle). I told my Husband I wanted to check out the horses and talk to the lady running the adoptions and that I would much rather adopt a rescued horse that needed a home than purchase one. My Husband looked at me a little cockeyed and I told him "I just wanna check it out. That's all" So we did. I spoke to the lady and she had a few horses for adoption; many of them seniors. I felt so bad and wanted to take all of them home, but I feared if I adopted a much older horse they wouldn't have much time with us and I didn't want to endure that sort of heart break for my family and myself as we have very young children. As we were leaving the flea market I told my Husbsnf that my friend has several rescued horses and I would write her to see who she got them from and look into an adoption in the future. I wrote my friend, got some contact information to get in touch with RVR Horse Rescue. As I was speaking with the adoption coordinator I was telling her my history with horses (my whole life and passion besides my children!) and I described to her my dream horse. I kid you not when I say this... I was speaking to her on the phone at 5pm and just an hour BEFORE at 4pm Silver Knight was brought to RVR!!!!! A dapple grey 16hh+ Thoroughbred. MY DREAM HORSE. And what are the ODDS he would be a Silver Knight = Lancelot?!!!!
Quick arrangements were made and Silver and I met. It was love at first sight! Silver and I bonded quickly and we were a perfect match as horse and rider. Now after a very smooth adoption process he is now home with my family. Silver is welcomed to our farm with plenty of love! He not only has a loving family, but a playful lovey dog to run around with, curious kitty cat , two alpacas, a mini donkey, a mini horse and our comedic turkey! My family and I cannot express our sincerest gratitude to all of those at RVR for their kind ways, huge hearts and immense compassion in guiding and supporting my Husband and Myself through this whole adoption process.
I am forever grateful for Stacy Rebh Pace, Kit Kelly, Allison Lee and Shawn Jayroe for entrusting and supporting our love for Silver.
I am on the Board of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Horse Rescue in Fort Lauderdale, and my husband and I went to RVR for Large Animal Rescue Operations Training this month. This place is filled with beautiful oak trees, beautiful horses and beautiful people. I have been to MANY rescues and I have NEVER seen a group that works like a team and a well oiled machine. These people are true horse lovers and rescuers. The facility is well kept, the staff was very friendly and the horses all looked great. I would recommend the training and if you are interested in adopting, you have to look at RVR. They had several horses that are ready to go to the right family.
RVR makes a difference. In a chaotic world where we all see tragic things, RVR takes the tragic and turns it around. The horses that come into RVR are often literally on the verge of death. Once they cross into RVR their life begins to change. A committed army of volunteers takes care of these amazing creatures insuring that they will never again be abandoned or abused. The love the horses receive transforms them. I am humbled and honored to have been even a small part of this wonderful non-profit.
I met Shawn at her "for profit" business that she owned. She sold her business to provide more time and miney for the horses that desperately needed her help. I attended fund raisers and watched as RVR became a 501-c3. This rescue has helped so many horses and people! I urge u to watch some if the very touching stories of loss and of victory and success on facebook.
Great non profit!! I know this personally!! Nobody gets paid! All volunteer run!
This Rescue is definitely legit!!!! From a business perspective, I know this for a fact! Nobody gets paid, its all volunteer run. I highly recommend RVR Horse Rescue.
What a place to spend some time. My wife Robin has been in business for herself as a massage therapist for 16+ years, and has recently been certified in K9 massage, in this endeavor she found a need for doing work for horses. After finding RVR horse rescue we decided to visit there and see what it was all about. We were impressed by the animals, the people and the grounds. Truly a place of healing. If you have only a few hours a month it would be worth a visit, you will come away with a feeling of completeness and calmness that only being in a place like this can offer. They have orientation classes that last about 4 hours that explain how the program works. Every day they need people to feed the horses morning and night and to clean up the stalls and corrals, not hard work but it needs to be done to keep the place as neat as it is. We plan on being there for many years to help.

Best group of hardworking people in the rescue...true horse angels. They will do anything and everything for these horses and Will stop at nothing.
Facilities are amazing for these animals!
RVR is an amazing group of volunteers and angels of mercy for equine in despair. I have had the priveledge of adopting my horse Crosby from them. They took a scared, abused, and emaciated horse and fed him, healed him both physically and mentally. Now I am continuing the healing with him mentally and he is turning out to be an amazing horse. I cannot wait to see what the current brings us
I love RVR Horse Rescue!!!! A true haven of love and care for the sweet, innocent and abused horses that arrive there. I have witnessed it all first hand by going out there and volunteering. Also therapeutic for those giving of themselves to help these beauties, no better feeling in the world to see the transformation they make in this God filled place...
My visits to RVR Horse Rescue were truly amazing. You can feel the love and know that God work is being done and He is in the midst of everything. The volunteers and owners love the animals and the animals love the volunteers. Such a wonderful experience I will never forget and as soon as I am able and not working so much, I plan to spend a lot more time out there. God bless all the angels who work so hard to make all those sweet babies well once again and give them love and quality of life, and God bless those sweet animals that fight so hard and know they are in a place where they will never experience abuse or neglect again. Love me some RVR!!!!
RVR does a wonderful job rescuing horses. The before and after situations are amazing!
RVR is a benevolent horse rescue where volunteers desire not money or attention but simply a sense of safety and security for these sweet horses. Abused, starved, and neglected these actions are placed upon horses daily, sometimes to the point of near death experiences. All these caring animals need is a home where they can feel loved and desired. What better place than a beautiful ranch filled with selfless, caring volunteers that contain so much sympathy and genuine love in their hearts. Volunteering at RVR has been a huge blessing to not only my family but any family they come in contact with. They display kindness in whatever they do and are truly concerned with these horses well being.
My daughter and I volunteer there. They live those horese like they were their own. There os no other place we would rather be.
The most caring, loving, giving rescue I have ever seen! RVR gives all to their rescues to rehabilitate & find them loving forever homes. They educate the public & open their facility for others to learn. They give of themselves to their horses until they have worn themselves out.
So hard working to save & find homes for abused horses. Some of which do not seem to have any chance to live but RVR will be by their side 24/7 with so much love & caring. They never give up on any horse brought to them!
RVR Horse Rescue is by far the most amazing place I've ever had the chance of knowing. It is run by a great woman (Shawn) and a large team of animal lovers who ALL work to help these animals without a dime! Their only payment is the love these horses give! I have seen animals go to them who most would not have given a chance. Months later, you would NOT even recognize them because they are so happy, healthy and healed! If you want to donate to a rescue that really makes a difference, RVR is an easy choice!! RVR STRONG!!!
RVR Horse Rescue is one of the most amazing places I have ever had the privilege of seeing. The miracles that they (The owner Shawn and all of the horse angel volunteers) make on a daily basis are beyond incredible! I have seen these animals when they arrive. Animals that most people would not give a chance as they are "too far gone". But RVR gives them ALL a chance, and seeing them a few months-years later is such an astounding turn around! Most you would never know we're abused! I am proud to know RVR!!
I'm kinda upset that you can't rate higher than 5 stars! This place captured my heart three years ago. I have learned so much about horses, helped save many and adopted a horse and a donkey from RVR! I am currently a point person (we make sure all shifts am and pm are covered and help manage the barn) and a board member. Besides working a full time job with 50+ hours every week, I spend a minimum of 10 hours at RVR horse rescue every week, and I love every minute of it. The volunteers are amazing, the horses.... well, there's nothing better than them! This organization is making great leaps and bounds and is branching out further than just the surrounding community. I am blessed to be a part of it and learn along the best!
RVR does amazing work to save horses that others have given up on. You can see the love on every volunteer's face. It's amazing to see the difference in the horses after they are welcomed here!
RVR Horse rescue is he most professional non-profit equine rescues. This prestige organization has proven to be a highly respected rescue in Flordia and a true advocate for the equines throughout the state of Florida
RVR Horse Rescue is truly an amazing organization. Their dedicated staff along with the many volunteers have proved time after time just how much love they share for these horses. Many of these animals have been abused, neglected, and sometimes close to death, but RVR has never given up on any of them. They have been able to rehabilitate both physically and emotionally and I hope this rescue is one that will be able to continue their work for many years to come.
RVR Horse Rescue is truly a blessing to Central Florida. The hard working volunteers there have a huge heart for horses who need their help. They put a tremendous amount of work into caring for the horses they rescue, rehabilitating them, and finding them a good loving home. I have never encountered an organization so committed to helping needy animals like RVR is. The RVR volunteers truly are Horse Angels in every sense. I am so happy to have had some part in supporting this wonderful rescue. I heartily recommend that anyone who can supports RVR, you won't regret it!
RVR does amazing work rehabilitating and re-homing horses in need. The volunteers there are awesome.
