As an American student interested in Russian culture I was surprised and excited to discover that Houston even had an organization like the RCC! The programs they support and organize are interesting, well-thought out, and really accessible to anyone interested in Russian culture. The artwork they showcase is truly excellent--worthy of a visit!--and not available anywhere else in Houston. Stop in and take a look--everyone at the gallery is really friendly and happy to talk and answer questions.
I really like the Russian Cultural Center. I am able to watch Russian movies, listen to good Russian music and see Russian Art. Being from Russia this gives me a good experience. I am part of the Russian community and have a great time. Please support the Russian Cultural Center and help bridge the gap between Russian and American Cultures and people.
Russian Cultural Center is an organization in Houston, TX which sponsors various artistic talents interesting to the Russian community in Texas. As a non-Russian, I have greatly enjoyed my visits to the center to learn some of the ways that Russians appreciate arts differently from Americans. I have gone to a few exhibitions of painting and photography and seen some examples of other artistic styles, although I have not been able to visit any of the musical or film events. It is always a pleasant atmosphere and I visit with both Russian and American friends.
I have good time with art classes and friendly atmosphere in Russian Cultural Center. Teather is very qualified and only tell apprishiations for peaple working for that service provide us with so good skills. Also can visit and see Russian movies and music concerts.
The Russian Cultural Center is the epitome of excellence in both sharing and personally experiencing the beauty of the Russian Culture. The events which are given, such as the films and concerts and art openings are refreshing and full of lively spirited coversation with extremely interesting intellectual patrons afterwards at the well attended receptions. Everyone always leaves with a song in their heart-all uplifiting. Dr. Nancy Anderson
My name is Irina Jacobson, I am a volunteer with AdvitaUSA fund. Sofia and staff of Russian Cultural Center are very receptive to our needs and help us to spread the word about Russian kids undergoing cancer treatments within Houston Russian community. Our Texas published an article about AdvitaUSA in July 09 and is planning to publish a story about a 7 year old boy with neuroblastoma.
Excellent - very informative and interesting programs, movies, art shows and other cultural events. Extremely important for the Russian community of Houston and others who are interested in Russian language and history. Highly recommend.
I volunteered to help out the organizers to coordinate certain photo and art exhibitions, film screenings and concerts. I met wonderful, interesting artists and helped to outreach to American audiences in the city.
My experiences with the Russian Cultural Center have been deeply enriching, both culturally and spiritually. Their cultural programs are invaluable in exposing the local community to the great contributions from Russia to the world in the fields of music, literature, art and science. The Russian Cultural Center is also an inexhaustable source of aid and comfort for numerous needy families newly immigrating to the United States. My firm strongly supports the Russian Cultural Center in these endeavors through financial assistance and providing pro bono legal services to needy families. I can truly say without reservation or hesitation that Houston is a better place because of the Russian Cultural Center's efforts.
The cultural events are great. They have documentary film screenings, art exhibitions, and musical concerts. They are interesting and well organized.
I think the Russian Cultural Center is a splendid organization; more people in Houston and its environs should be aware of the RCC programs. They cater to both Russian and non-Russian speakers and include the fields of music (classical, folk, popular) art, history, poetry and film. I cannot recommend them highly enough to all who are interested in these fields. Isabelle Ganz
RCC "Our Texas" is a small but vibrant cultural center. Periodically it hosts concerts, exhibitions, lectures - all in great taste and variety.
Great experience. Very proactive, mobile, open minded, easy to work with people. They provide if you need it. Communication is their strongest point.
As a resident of Kingwood, which distance from its location Downtown, prevents me to be able to take part to all the venues offered by the "Russian Cultural Center"! I was never disappointed during my numerous attendance to its unique lectures, films and concerts! Often times, when RCC scheduled venue is conflicting with other Russian venues, poses me a very hard choice, which one to go to!
The Russian Cultural Center (RCC) is a well-administered and vibrant non-profit with the unique role of providing both Russian-speaking and non Russian-speaking Houstonians with a large number of intelligent, useful and varied programs. As a founding member of this young organization, I have marveled at the growth and direction of RCC and its contributions to the cultural and intellectual enrichment of children and adults, Russian and non-Russian, briefly, its contribution to Houston as a go-to destination for quality of life unparalled in our region. One would need to travel to New York or Washington DC to access the quality and variety of programs provided by RCC
I am so glad the Russian Cultural Center is open to everyone. I am not Russian, but found out about the RCC through their website and emails. I have attended several of their musical events and documentary film events. I have learned from these experiences and have throughly enjoyed their programs. I try to get my tickets early because they are a small venue and do tend to fill up quickly. Through their programs I have learned about Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky. RCC is a true gem! I am delighted to have discovered it. My friends and I are looking forward to their Prokofiev documentary program next week!
The Russian Cultural Center, called "Our Texas" in honor of the new home for Houston's many Russian emigres, appeared out of the blue one fine day, in a small, elegant little art gallery on Bissonnette, to offer access to a slice of history and culture which had been entirely missing from the Houston scene. In its first year it made available to the Houston public, extraordinary films about Soviet and Russian greats who had made a major impact on world culture - Shostakovich and Rachmaninoff, to name two - an astonishing documentary of Glen Gould's earth-shaking tour to the Soviet Union, and other memorable films of Russian history and politics. The Center has exhibited contemporary Russian sculpture and art not available anywhere else in Houston and has given us the pleasure of experiencing Russian music played in an intimate setting on a lovely piano donated by Maestro Hans Graff, the Music Director of the Houston Symphony. This cultural center is a little gem which has added in a big way to the pleasure of living in Houston. Nora Avins Klein, M. D.
I come to see great perfomances and films dedicated to Russian musical culture, cinematography, and other artistic ventures. These events are well-organized, have a comforting personalized atmosphere, and occur on regular basis. Outstanding pianists and vocalists perform at RCC "Our Texas" sharing the best pieces of Russian cultural heritage. I am recommending RCC to everyone I know.
