Rude Ranch Animal Rescue, aligned with Spay Spa and Neuter Nook & Arundel Save Cats, is an extremely positive & caring atmosphere for clients and their pets. Staff is friendly, patient, and go above and beyond to help clients & pets feel comfortable and safe while at the clinic. Spay Spa & Neuter Nook have gone above and beyond to help both tame cats and community (feral) cats & kittens. As a weekly client who brings feral cats who were trapped outside, Spay Spa and Neuter Nook has not have not only spayed/neutered, and vaccinated feral cats and kittens, but provided much needed medical & dental care for cats who would not otherwise receive this. They recently performed a tail amputation, enucleation (eye removal,) & tooth extractions for cats who had been trapped outside. Cats are trapped who turn out to be tame are sent to animal control, where their families have a chance to find them if they are lost or they have a chance to be adopted. So the clinic is essentially helping to rescue cats as well. It is one thing to care about owned pets, but it is quite another to provide so much care for homeless & feral cats. While doing TNR (trap, neuter, return,) for a family who had feral cats in their yard, a family asked if their dog could go to the clinic as well. Spay Spa and Neuter Nook quickly set up an appointment & helped this family. I have been utilized this clinic for 7 years and will continue to utilize this clinic. Thank you for everything you do!

The staff here were very friendly and understanding! They explained everything slow and with care so we can understand what we need for our fur baby to heal. The surgery we got for our cat went quick and smoothly! Our cat has been recovering very well and we have faced no issues at all. Very affordable prices for the surgery and extras. Would recommend this place to other fur baby parents!

I have two kittens who see a vet regularly close to home, in Annapolis and was planning to have them both neutered and spayed together, on the same day, however the cost was outrageously expensive and required a $600 deposit per kitten alone. After being referred to Spay Spa and Neuter Nook by a close friend I was intrigued and looked them up online and instantly saw the ton of amazing reviews and the VERY reasonable pricing per kitten. I called my vet to get my deposit back and went to book their appointments online, on their website. The only downside was that I couldn’t book both kittens at the same time and there was a bit of a wait (about 2 and 3 months wait) for their appointments, but nonetheless, I am so beyond happy that I went with my gut and decided to follow through and still book the appointments. Our little Rex is 6mo and 9lbs, our big boy!!!! He is such a little lover boy and got his surgery to be neutered this previous Monday. At drop off, I was so anxious but at check-in all of my questions were answered and I felt like he was in good hands. I spent $95 to have him neutered, nails clipped, and 3 days worth of pain meds. INSANELY AMAZING PRICING! But, my main concern was getting my little guy home and making sure he was comfortable and do all of the post-op instructions. I am absolutely amazed at how quickly my little mans was back to his normal, sweet, loving, silly self. I almost didn’t believe it, it was too good to be true! But he’s drinking, eating, urinating and poo’ing all within 24-48 hours. His incisions look so clean, a little bruising, but no bleeding or oozing or anything worrisome. I am so amazed and grateful for Spay Spa and Neuter Nook. They took amazing care of Rex, his surgery went well and quickly, and his recovery is going very smoothly; it has made what I thought would be a torturous process, simple and easy and really puts me at ease. I would HIGHLY recommend SSANN for your pets needs and can’t wait for April when our little darling Miso goes to get spayed! Thank you, Spay Spa and Neuter Nook! (PS. the little image where he looks grumpies, he’s not actually, lol the little black velcro covered his eyebrows and it just makes me giggle. Hope it makes you giggle too!)

I recently took my fur baby to get spayed and even though we were both nervous, I had a great experience. We arrived at 7 a.m. Everyone I came across was very polite and welcoming. They explained everything at length. Asked if I had any questions. My baby was even done early. My baby is doing/healing well. I could not be happier. I have already recommended others!

I recently visited Spay Spa & Neuter Nook for my kitty Lychee to be neutered. I had called around the DMV area to so many places looking for an appointment for Lychee and many of the locations near me were booked up for months and didn't have availability or an affordable price. I am so glad that I found Spay Spa & Neuter Nook. They had the soonest availability and were very reasonable. The staff that I encountered on the phone and in-person were friendly and very helpful. Lychee is one of my sweetest kitties, but he gets very nervous going for car rides and to the vet. He got sick in his crate on the way and I called ahead to let them know. They were so helpful and cleaned him and his crate up. They were very patient with him and took great care of him. Lychee is doing well after his surgery and back to his normal sweet self already. I highly recommend Spay Spa & Neuter Nook. I would absolutely trust them with another pet.

What an amazing nonprofit. Rude Ranch has been around since 2001 and has done so much for the community - from adoptions, to operating an amazing low-cost spay and neuter clinic, to literally running the feral cat program for Anne Arundel County. I have worked with Spay Spa for over 10 years, and I think that they are an amazing organization. They regularly assist both private individuals as well as public rescue organizations to provide the best services possible for all of their patients. They also help veterinary students by providing internships where they can observe and assist with surgery. The staff members are always friendly and work tirelessly to make sure that every animal receives the care it needs.

Rude Ranch Animal Rescue and Spay Spa/Neuter Nook is run by professionals who not only know how to do their jobs, but also care deeply about animals and their caretakers. The organization’s focus is now primarily on helping to stem the tide of overpopulation of companion animals via spay and neuter services, but they do so much more for the community. Help from qualified volunteers is much appreciated as there is so much work to be done. I’m so glad they collaborate with other organizations to maximize the benefits to the community. If only we could replicate this nonprofit many times over across Maryland and elsewhere! I highly recommend them for your donation dollars.

Very friendly and reassuring staff, Upsilon was handled with care and love for his neutering. He came back with a very clean incision, I am so glad we found them as we would not have been able to afford neutering elsewhere. They also trimmed his nails for an extra $5. I also would like to highlight the fact that they reached out two days later to inquire about how my dog was doing... I can not recommend them enough. Thank you !!!

I had the privilege of working at Rude Ranch Animal Rescue as a caretaker, and my experience was nothing short of exceptional. This sanctuary is more than just a rescue; it's a haven for cats who may not have had the best start in life.

One of the most touching aspects of my time at Rude Ranch was witnessing firsthand the dedication to providing a kind and loving place for unadoptable cats to live out their days. The staff and volunteers go above and beyond to ensure that each cat receives the care and attention they deserve, regardless of their adoptability status. It's heartwarming to see these cats thrive in an environment where they are truly valued and cherished.

Moreover, Rude Ranch doesn't stop at providing sanctuary for the cats within its walls. They also champion for feral cats in the community, advocating for their well-being and implementing programs to help control feral cat populations in humane ways. Their commitment to making a difference extends far beyond their own premises, making them true leaders in animal welfare.

Overall, my experience at Rude Ranch Animal Rescue was incredibly rewarding. I am proud to have been a part of an organization that not only provides a safe haven for cats in need but also works tirelessly to improve the lives of feral cats in the community. If you're looking to support a sanctuary that truly makes a difference, Rude Ranch Animal Rescue is the place to be.

I adopted a rabbit from a shelter and was surprised the rabbit had not yet been neutered but knew if there were a chance he'd befriend our dog (and vice versa) and a neighbor's rabbit, he needed to be neutered. The next surprise was the cost. I finally found Spay & Neuter Nook and read the positive reviews. Even though it was almost an hour away, it was worth the savings and the personnel couldn't have been nice nor more professional. The Vet even came out to answer questions despite it being busy. The clinic is so cheerful with hand painted pet murals. They seemed genuinely pleased to assist. Everything went as planned, and my rabbit has had an easy recuperation. He was back to normal immediately.

I was recently given a little orange kitten. I asked the lady where the mother cat was and she replied. "Somewhere in the neighborhood." I was able to locate the group of community cats and had all 15 of them spayed and neutered through the non profit Rude Ranch and Spay Spa Neuter Nook. While I was trapping the cats a teenager saw me and told me he lived with his Grandmother and their cat kept having kittens and they may have to give her away. Fortunately Rude Ranch had raised funds and put a program together to reach the at risk low income owned cats in the zip code for this neighborhood. This non profit's program went full circle, by addressing the overpopulation cycle of the outside side community cats, as well as the indoor at risk owned cat. This nonprofit changed a community and kept a cat in a home with its family.

I have worked with animals, animal rescues, refuges, and shelters for almost half of my life. I have been fortunate to work closely with some of the most passionate people – and that includes the people at Rude Ranch Animal Rescue.  I first learned about Rude Ranch when I was working with another rescue in Baltimore, MD.  Around since 2001, and founded by Bob and Kathy Rude, Rude Ranch transferred in 202- to the very capable duo of Drs. Andrulis – one a shelter veterinarian by trade and the other a seasoned grant writer and administrator.  The Andrulises have done an amazing job picking up where the Rudes left off, even with the big shoes to fill!  If you are looking for an organization in animal welfare to support – whether it be for their work with feral cats, with free services to low-income individuals, with supporting other animal rescues with their missions, or providing low-cost spay/neuter to the general public – look no further.  Rude Ranch has my highest recommendations.  And deserves yours, too! — DS

Rude Ranch Animal Rescue (RRAR) has an absolutely amazing history. The organization received 501c3 determination from the IRS in 2001 and since then has been responsible for over 5000 adoptions. RRAR founders Bob Rude and Kathy Evans worked tirelessly to build a strong network of foster families and animal welfare volunteers through the DMV area. Rude Ranch was one of the earliest regional groups to practice and promote pediatric spay/neuter surgeries. In 2012, Rude Ranch opened its low-cost spay/neuter clinic, Spay Spa & Neuter Nook (SSNN). Since then, SSNN has performed over 60,000 surgeries, worked with over 150 animal rescues and shelters, and saved clients almost $20 million on what they would pay at a regular veterinarian. In 2018, RRAR launched its community cat program, SAVECats, which has performed 4000+ spay/neuter surgeries on feral/stray/community cats. In 2020, I joined the RRAR Board and assumed role of President of the Board. It was one of the best decisions of my life. I am grateful for all of the amazing partners, clients, and communities that rely on us for animal support. I give RRAR, SSNN, and SAVECats my highest recommendation --- and recommend that you support this organization!

While helping a friend who had just rescued 2 stray cats from the street, we needed to get them "fixed" and vaccinated and given shots for their health. Unfortunately, my friend did not have the finances available to spend on these cats.

After looking for days for a veterinarian hospital that could treat these cats on a limited budget, we found Spay Spa! What a blessing they were! Although we had to drive an hour from our home to get to their facilities, the drive was definitely worth it! Spay Spa was able to provide this necessary service at a fantastic price! We were so eager to get this cat treated, we actually showed up to the clinic one day early by mistake! They were so gracious; they accommodated us.

Thank you, Spay Spa for your outstanding service! Coquita recovered fast and very well!
Looking forward to help Bonita de other cat soon.

I have been an advocate and supporter of Rude Ranch since its inception. The Organization is completely devoted to the safety and welfare of animals. Rude Ranch has worked hard to provide a safe haven for abandoned, disabled cats as well as cats that have medical conditions that make them less likely to be adopted. They have helped during national disasters including hurricane Katrine to rescue animals. In addition to the sanctuary, Rude Ranch started Spay Spa and Neuter Nook to help decrease the growing feral population. Rude Ranch has worked to change legislation to decrease euthanasia of stray cats. They worked diligently to get the Community Cat Bill (96-17) passed in Anne Arundel County which allows Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) countywide and gives protection to community cats who are brought to animal control. The work Rude Ranch has done has resulted in significantly decreasing the number of cats being euthanized. Rude Ranch is a wonderful organization.

Road Runner Rescue has been using the services of Spay Spa & Neuter Nook since they opened in Oct 2012. Of the 1000's of cats they have spayed/neutered, one particular cat from last year really stands out. Road Runner rescues cats from a high kill shelter on the VA Eastern Shore. This one beautiful calico was semi-feral and had what looked like a severe eye infection, we couldn't tell if she actually had an eye. Once she was sedated and upon closer inspection, Dr. Andrulis discovered that the eye was gone and there was a BB pellet where her eye had been! She had been shot in the eye! Dr A cleaned and attended the wound, gave antibiotics, etc but she needed more care than Road Runner could give at that time. Dr Andrulis took the cat home to heal, treated her and found her a wonderful home! Once she felt better, Cali was a loving cat.
The staff at Spay Spa has always been wonderful, attentive and very professional. Thanks to everyone there!

I’ve been incredibly impressed with the work done by the folks at Spay Spa / Neuter Nook, where I’ve been volunteering for the past several months. The employees and volunteers are all huge animal lovers (obviously), but they’re also observant, detail-oriented medical professionals who take their work seriously and provide high quality care to all animals they see—from a community member’s beloved purebred to the stray cat that Really hates humans. There’s also a great sense of community amongst staff and volunteers. Everyone—including the President/Executive Director—pitches in to do any/all tasks they can, be it patient care, laundry, surgical equipment sanitation & prep, or mopping the floor. Servant leadership is the norm at SSNN, and the positive vibe is contagious. I’m so happy to be part of this community of people doing amazing, critical work for the animals here where we live.

I have been volunteering at Rude Ranch for about ten years and at Spa Spay Neuter Nook for about a year. At SSNN, the veterinarian technicians and veterinarians show great sensitivity and care when treating all animals, some of whom are feral cats, with grievous injuries and conditions. When warranted they will not hesitate to perform more complicated surgeries, saving dogs and cats from ectopic pregnancies, pyometra, entropion and other life threatening conditions.
SSNN’s dream is to have no repeat customers—no unwanted cats and dogs. Through their dedicated efforts they are working towards that dream, having spayed/neutered over 7,500 cats and dogs, and occasionally rabbits, guinea pigs and even a rat, in 2021.

I've been doing volunteer work at Rude Ranch for approximately five years, my sister longer than that. We've had many opportunities to observe Rude Ranch's approach in how they care for the cats they have rescued. The Rude Ranch staff are devoted to providing compassionate management of many homeless cats, including feral cats, those who have been diagnosed with FIV/FeLK, and other serious health issues. These cats - some of which are literally dropped off at the Rude Ranch sanctuary by folks who make a quick getaway - are loved and treated exceptionally well for as long as they live. Bob and Kathy Rude, co-managers of the sanctuary, also work with veterinarians to ensure that medical support is given when needed. Bob and Kathy have educated the public in the trap/neuter/return program. The sum total of the hours and effort they have invested in the care of homeless cats far exceeds any 40 hour a week job. They have dedicated their lives and hearts to the welfare of cats who otherwise would have led a challenging and tragic existence. Becky Estep

Five stars are not enough for this organization. I came onboard in 2002 thinking I’d get some ideas for starting my own rescue. I quickly learned I could never hope to do half the job they do but hung around because they run such a terrific organization and I’m proud to be part of it. I served in just about every capacity over the years from cat wrangler at the sanctuary to tabling and promotion to lobbying for animals at the state and county level. I was thrilled when they asked me to be a board member a few years ago and when they asked me to help at the Spay Spa because, in my opinion, they have the perfect business model for any rescue and it been a joy and privilege to watch them grow over the years and be part of it.

I stumbled upon Rude Ranch Animal Rescue many years ago while looking online for a friend for my FeLV cat. Over the years, I adopted several cats from Bob and Kathy Rude. Their kindness, understanding, and compassion are second to none, which is why I started volunteering at the Spay Spa and Neuter Nook. I wanted to help others the way that they helped me.

Volunteering at the Spay Spa Neuter Nook over the past several years has been a truly rewarding experience. It is evident that the people who work there care about their human and animal clients in a remarkable capacity that would be hard to replicate elsewhere. The dedication and fortitude exhibited by the staff are the reasons why I return year after year to volunteer.

Outstanding is how I would describe The Rude Ranch & Spay Spa Neuter Nook Clinic. Donors and those who care about pets, homeless animals and pet overpopulation need look no further for an organization that delivers results and provides exceptional value and service. Over the past 10 years, the non profit’s founders have brought about tremendous positive change to Maryland and its’ counties. I know because for 3 years I had the privilege of working side by side with the founders (power couple Bob and Kathy) to pass progressive legislation. I also am one of their 1st and longest clients (since 2012) of their spay/neuter clinic. The clinic provides professional low cost services to pet owners while also providing a lot of no cost services to those volunteers in our communities doing the toughest work to combat pet overpopulation. Kathy and Bob have laid a strong foundation for continual progress. I am excited to see what more good work will come!

I was so impressed with the quality of animal care and the amazing outreach of this very worthy rescue that I began to volunteer my graphic abilities, preparing Rude Ranch's newsletters and other marketing pieces. 14 years later, I am still helping Rude Ranch and Spay Spa with their graphic needs because I believe wholeheartedly in their mission to reduce the number of needless euthanizations in Anne Arundel County and to come to the aid of sick and homeless cats and dogs. Rude Ranch and Spay Spa & Neuter Nook are expertly run organizations that always put the needs of the animals first. They have earned my respect and admiration.

This is a amazing organization and I am so grateful that they exist. I run a cat rescue group for feral cats, without Spay Spa we would not be able to help a fraction of the cats that we currently are able to care for. Their prices are great, their vet staff are highly competent, and support staff is professional. Our cats come back with far less complications than other vets and the paperwork is always accurate. I can not recommend them enough!

I first met Bob and Kathy Rude at Petsmart on a Saturday morning in 2000 where they were set up doing adoptions. After numerous visits with them I decided they were the group with whom i wanted to volunteer. On October 1, 2004 i went to RR for an official indoctrination and have been a volunteer ever since. I worked with them over the years with pet fostering,, adoptions and the annual Rude Ranch Bingo, Since March 2013 I have been volunteering several days and week at their very successful spay/neuter clinic in Davidsonville, MD. Bob and Kathy are very committed to helping animals and I cannot think of a better place to volunteer.

The work this organization accomplishes is amazing. I have been a volunteer with the Rude Ranch Spay Spa and Neuter Nook for several months. I have helped out in a variety of areas and was able to see the “behind the scenes” work and get to know the employees and other volunteers who bring this organization to life. Every person I met has a deep passion for the animals they are caring for. From the moment they are dropped off, throughout their pre-op, their surgery and their post-op, every single animal is treated as though they are the most important animal in the world. It does not matter if they are a stray or someone’s treasured pet. They are loved, cuddled, talked to, kissed, cleaned, calmed, and treated as VIPs during their entire stay. No matter how busy the day is, the work of this highly functional team, the communication, the professionalism and the efficiency of the system and its employees and volunteers consistently ensures every day is a successful day. The facility is extremely hygienic, and is cleaned and sterilized every day. If you are looking for a place to volunteer, if you are looking for a place to have a spay or neuter done, and particularly if you are looking for a place to make a financial donation, I highly recommend this organization. Your time and/or your donated money will be well spent and your animals will be very well cared for.
