Our community health promotora program strengthens families by increasing access to preventative health services, facilitating referrals to basic needs resources and enhancing the knowledge and awareness of health issues in our community. Through our girl zone program (after school sessions and summer camp) we enhance academic potential, nurture high self-esteem, and support the healthy development of girls age 9 - 14. Volunteer, as wearealive is an all-volunteer-agency. One of we are alive, inc. 's other primary services of providing "monetary/financial assistance", for persons with terminal or on-going-severe illnesses, at this time only has funds designated for persons in the san antonio, texas metropolitan area including all of bexar county (and usually the immediate adjacent counties). This situation is due to no contributions having been made for state-wide and nation-wide assistance in the recent years, as all contributions have been from the local area. Hopefully we are alive, inc. Will be able to provide assistance on a state-wide and nation-wide basis again in the future --- and when so, this notice will be updated. (requests submitted for residents outside of the san antonio metropolitan area cannot be responded to). In the local san antonio, texas area (or for those who can drive into san antonio), we are alive, inc. 's secondary but important service of "second hand items" for home items & clothing continues to be available for local residents in need.

Driven 100% by volunteers, our goal is to provide education, counseling, and support to local communities affected by hiv/aids and other health concerns in a bilingual/bicultural, familial environment. Originally known as mujeres unidas contra el sida, our organization was founded on world aids day, december 1, 1994, by former executive director, yolanda rodriguez-escobar. Her vision was to fill the gaps in services for latinas living with or directly impacted by hiv/aids.
