I had an very good experience with Rottweiler Hearts Rescue, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. After I reached out, it was clear that this organization is dedicated to the well-being of the dogs they rescue. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable, compassionate, and truly cares about each dog they take in.They go above and beyond to ensure that the dogs are in good health, well-adjusted, and ready for adoption. The adoption process was seamless, they provided detailed information on the dog’s background and temperament, which helped me make an informed decision. It’s evident that Rottweiler Hearts Rescue is passionate about the breed and committed to matching each dog with the right home. The team truly puts the dogs first, and their love for these animals is obvious. If you're looking to adopt a Rottweiler or support a rescue organization, I highly encourage you to connect with Rottweiler Hearts Rescue. They're a fantastic resource for both dogs and potential adopters! We adopted Ruby from RHR in May 2024.Thank you,Jim Britten

I cannot say enough great things about Rottweiler Hearts Rescue. I have adopted two incredible Rottweilers from this amazing organization, and each experience has been seamless and heartwarming. The team is deeply dedicated to the well-being of every dog, ensuring they are placed in loving, responsible homes.

Their support doesn’t stop at adoption—they provide guidance, resources, and are always there to answer questions. Being so inspired by their mission, I also became a foster volunteer, and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

The care, compassion, and professionalism of this rescue are unmatched. They truly go above and beyond to save and rehabilitate these beautiful dogs. If you’re looking to adopt or foster, I wholeheartedly recommend Rottweiler Hearts Rescue. They are transforming lives, one Rottweiler at a time.

I’ve adopted 2 rotties from Rottweiler Hearts Rescue. Everyone involved is very communicative and easy to work with. Very responsive, caring, and genuine. I feel whole heartedly each pup is cared for to the best of their ability and the proper time and patience is given to ensure each dog is placed in the perfect home. The amount of heart and sole that is put into saving as many animals as they are capable of saving, is unmatched. Rescue is trying and not for the faint of hearts. Full respect and 100% recommendation to anyone looking to rescue a beautiful animal.

I’ve had the privilege of working with Ed and the team at Rottweiler Hearts Rescue (RHR) for several years. I’m currently on my second rescue from Ed, having become a volunteer after my first experience with a dog the shelter labeled as "unsavable."

Diesel, my first rescue, has transformed into a loving and wonderful companion, thanks to Ed’s belief that all he needed was a chance. This organization couldn’t be more appropriately named—everyone involved is truly all heart when it comes to saving these dogs.

Rottweiler Hearts Rescue is absolutely the best!!!
This Rescue based in NC, are passionate about what they do. Rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming rottweilers quite often found at high risk shelters.
They provide ongoing support and valuable resources to their adopters and foster families.
They are a small rescue with breed savvy volunteers that are passionate about the Rottweilers in their care. Each volunteer will go above and beyond to find the perfect forever home.
They helped countless Rottweilers find those forever homes, making a difference in not only the adoptive family but also that Rottweiler!
Ours began the day we adopted our Ruby! We can’t thank them enough for this great addition to our lives.
I highly recommend them if you are looking to volunteer, adopt or support a great rescue.

Last Saturday we drove to pick up our newest family member Riley, formally Gaia. From the initial contact and through out the process, to putting her in the car to come home, it was seamless. Everyone was so nice and concerned that we were the right family for her. She has been with us a week today and is fitting in perfectly, she is the happiest girl! So well behaved, she does nothing wrong, and learning the schedule of treats.
This is a great organization, they reached out quickly to me, my vet and references and in a matter of days we knew we had our girl.
Thank you all for my early Christmas present!

Over the years I fostered for NCRR from 2006 till it closed its doors. I kept the foster that was not a Rottweiler but was black and tan. He stayed with me for 10 years till we lost him in 2016. In that time, several members of the closed rescue began Rottweiler Hearts Rescue and in 2014 I adopted a 9 month old female name Gracie Von. Her owners had become ill with cancer and boy did we luck out with her. Sweet, smart goofy. I lost her last November with complications from Cushings Disease. Over the years I would see posts of dogs needing a safe and soft landing. What I noticed were dogs being pulled by RHR. Rottweilers that were old, sick, injured, some needing single dog only fosters. Some were Rottie Blends. The puppies and the moms. HW positive dogs. Broken limbs and sometimes broken trust. What all these had in common was that their treatment was not going to be cheap and the journey to their healing was not going to resolve immediately. What I was impressed with was the willingness to be there for any Rottweiler. The pleas come in and the commitment of the RHR village took action. I believe that there are rescues that pull easy adoptable dogs and that is great. I also believe that action speaks volumes. RHR is not shy about committing to a Rottie for whatever the reason. It was because of the commitments I saw that I began fostering, foster failing, transporting and working applications, responding to internet questions on adoptable dogs. I have never been more proud to be a part of such a dedicated group of people that have come together for the common goal of helping the Rottweiler breed. Our President Ed McMullen and Vice President Elizabeth Brush go above and beyond daily. We are all volunteers doing the very best we can for our beloved breed.

I have nothing but good things to say about this rescue. Not only do they take dogs off the euthanization list and make them their best dog find them homes. They take dogs and off the streets that are in poor condition and bring them back to where they should be and find them homes. And if that ain't enough they also help other organizations such as ours. Angels among Us rescue and boarding located in Liberty South Carolina. They have always came to the rescue whenever I have put out a plea that a dog needs something. Without hesitation. We are super glad that we can work with an organization such as this together as one. The way rescue should be helping each other out for the greater of the dog. I definitely give this Rescue five stars

We had lost our beloved Charlie about 18 months earlier and decided it may be time to share our home with another Rottweiler. We immediately found Rottweiler Hearts Rescue and began our search on their website.
It's never easy to replace something so dear as a companion like Charlie. We adopted him when he was 18 months old so he was pretty ingrained into our daily lives.
Ed McMullen was a blessing when it came time to take that next step. He introduced us to Simon who, at the time, was approximately a 2 year old male Rottie that had a less than a stable home.
We immediately changed his name to Roscoe because he didn't respond to Simon and he seemed more like....well...a Roscoe.
Roscoe was a little bit of challenge at first. Adopting a Rottweiler takes patience and commitment. But once Roscoe realized that he was in a safe place with two leggers that loved and cared for him he opened up and became the goof ball he is today. One of his top three things to do is nap.
We brought Roscoe home in late February and while we still missed Charlie Roscoe has filled out home with puppy love.
Here are a three photos of Roscoe. The young girl is a neighbor that Roscoe adores. The second photo is hiking in Shenandoah. The third is Roscoe's first swim in Hatteras Island NC.
Rottweiler Hearts Rescue are dedicated, committed people that go to great lengths to save and place this incredible breed in loving forever homes. We would (and have) recommended Rottweiler Hearts Rescue to family and friends and anybody that asks about our cutie pie Roscoe. He's a real hit in public...and I think he knows it.

Having had 2 rescue Rottweilers in the past, I had been keeping my eyes open to adopt another Rottweiler through a rescue organization. I came across Rottweiler Hearts Rescue post, where they had saved a pregnant mother and had several Rottie/Pit mix pups. I reached out with interest and was quickly able to get my application processed. Ed and Elizabeth were terrific in expediting the adoption process and getting me set up to adopt one of the 3 remaining males. My application was reviewed and approved, my references were contacted and arrangements were made for me to bring home Marduk in a very efficient manner. I can't thank Elizabeth and Ed enough for their efforts to make sure these pups made it into good homes. Marduk is a wonderful dog and has settled into his new home/family really well. I could not have asked for a better dog and my experience with Rottweiler Hearts Rescue was great! I am very thankful for people like Ed and Elizabeth, who do what they do to make sure these animals end up in good homes...including provision of transport.

This is an amazing rescue with a wonderful group of volunteers. Samira, picture below, was one of the transports I was able to help with. When I saw the emergency transport request one night, you could tell by the picture the girl was emaciated. I wasn't sure if Rottweiler Hearts Rescue would be able to find enough people to cover transport from Winnsboro to VA on short notice but RHR volunteers rose like champians to help this girl. It wasn't until I picked Samira up at the shelter the next morning that I saw just how emaciated she actually was. I don't think this girl had much/if any muscle left. You could see and feel almost every bone from head to toe. I doubt she would have lasted much longer if animal control had not stepped in. It broke my heart to see her that way. Even after the way her 'caregiver' cared for her or better yet lacked to give her any care; she was still the sweetest little girl ever. The entire way from the shelter to Salisbury, all she wanted was for me to pet/rub her. It melts my heart to see after everything she went through, all she wants is love.

Rottweiler Hearts Rescue took in this sweet girl to help get her back to being healthy. Not only was this girl emaciated but she was also heartworm positive. She is now in a loving foster home, putting on weight and learning what it's like to be in a loving home. This may not be a large rescue but there hearts are as big as I've ever seen. They love this breed and do all they can to help save as many as they can.

We lost a beloved Rottweiler to cancer in 2016. I was searching for another to rescue when I came across Rottweiler Hearts Rescue. They had one I thought might be a good fit but she was all the way in Atlanta. A member of the board met the foster in Florence, SC and delivered her to us. She was a perfect fit! We loved her immediately. Then we decided to try fostering. RHR was our only choice. I wanted to help. We fostered several dogs and had a say in whether they were a match or not. It was the most rewarding experience. Now our home is full of seniors and I will always search RHR when we have room for another. They truly care about the breed and are fully vested in making the best matches.

We pulled a purebred Rottweiler from our local shelter in 2014. We lost her to cancer in 2016. We knew we wanted to rescue another Rottweiler so the search began. We checked all rescues within a reasonable driving distance without any luck. We were checking back often and suddenly this angel of a dog popped up on the screen. It was love at first sight. RHR picked her up in Florence, SC and brought her to us. They did the home inspection and the meet and greet and the adoption all at the same time. It's been two years now and we love her more than ever. We don't have room to adopt another so we foster for RHR now and sometimes provide transportation. We really like the way they do business always putting the dogs first. We hope to have a relationship with them for many years to come.

Rottweiler Hearts Rescue is one of the best rescues I have had the pleasure of working with. They take in a lot of animals with medical needs and make sure that they are healthy and have the chance of living their best lives ever.

Because of their love of this misunderstood breed, I help transport these animals as often as I can. They work hard and tirelessly to get these animals out of a bad situation. They make sure that they are fully vetted. They also do extensive background checks on the people who adopt, to make sure they are a perfect fit for each other, and that they will live out the rest of their lives in a loving and caring environment. I can't give them enough praise for the things I have seem them willing to do for the love of these animals.

I can't say enough good things about RHR. They truly care about the work they do to save rotties. Sometimes at their own personal expense. Ed and his entire group have the biggest hearts of anyone I know.

The stories of rescue the many rotties they've saved could tell would move anyone. They save dogs in the depths of despair (sometimes severe neglect) and provide them a furever home with the love they each deserve.

They matched my family with Atom, our "fixer upper" as my son affectionately called him. Atom was emaciated, had been neglected, has severe arthritis as well as other health conditions. He's deaf and blind in one eye. Providing Atom a home with love has allowed him time to recover and he's now living out his golden years withbtons of love and a new best friend in an orange tabby cat named Shamus. For all Atom has been through he hadn't give up on love and I attest that to the love shown him by Ed and his personnel who first pulled Atom from the shelter. They set him on his road to recovery.

I have watched this rescue use every resource they can muster to rescue Rottweillers of all kinds from shelters locally and out of state. They do not hesitate to reach out to shelters and other rescues to assist in saving as many Rottweilers as they can, including those that need extensive medical and/or behavioral help.

On a personal note, they coordinated pulling a young highly reactive Rottweiler (heart worm positive) from a Miami shelter one day before he was scheduled to be euthanized. They were willing to take a chance on him and us, as new fosters to the organization.

We also occasionally pull from LA and TX and we help other rescues save Rotties as well. Our team is just a handful of dedicated rescuers and we donate our time and effort until well past the point of pain. Rottweiler Hearts Rescue (RHR) pours their hearts and souls into each and every dog. RHR’s good reputation (and very active President) travelled quickly up and down the east coast helping Rottweilers in shelters. Max (a current RHR dog) was to be euthanized for shelter space. RHR helped Max out of the shelter, into a foster home AND paid thousands for his medical and Heartworm treatment.

Our family had a Rottie for 10 years. She passed away from bone cancer and we were devastated. When we decided it was time to add another Rottie to our family, we knew we wanted to adopt from a rescue. I found RHR while doing an online search. This is a small rescue doing big things! This rescue is very active, working to rescue dogs from the community, shelters and partnering with other rescue groups. They work hard to educate the public and provide their dogs with the best care possible. Their focus is to place dogs in loving homes and do everything possible to assist interested adopters in this process. We found our beautiful, big dog, Kodi through RHR. He is a big dog with an even bigger personality! I'm so grateful that he is part of our family. Please assist this rescue by volunteering, adopting, fostering and providing financial support! Great rescue. I have adopted 3 senior rottis from RHR since Aug 2021. Ed McMullen has helped me work with far off shelters to save them from euthanasia due to age and critical medical issues. He was with me every step of the way. They rescue several dogs a week from shelters and owners who can no longer keep and spare no expense for vet care. Their screening of potential adopters is excellent. They continue a relationship with adopters and stand by to assist. I support them financially and also short term foster when I can. The best rotti rescue I have ever dealt with.

As we know there is a major plight that animals find themselves in that being homelessness. Once loved, wanted and suddenly discarded, or the passing of an owner. Often times people are whimsical about making the decision to own a pet. Sometimes it is as ridiculous to say they are attracted to certain breeds but have done no
Research on the breed they are about to embark on. It is easier to love a lap dog or cat but to open your heart or home to the more challenging breeds well that is pure dedication. To go above and beyond the boundaries of rescue speaks volumes about why people help this breed particularly. Each year as a networker, cross poster, fundraiser, educator and lover of animals. The Rottweiler breed like many others are often misunderstood. Their bodies grow very quickly and their hearts are very loyal they can be so intelligent beyond measure and they can be reactive from things that actually make them afraid. Rottweiler hearts are made up of a great crew of people who are working very hard to help this breed to thrive, to be the Segway from being abandoned or discarded to finding them suitable great homes with people who have a love for this breed. It is expensive to take on medical issues such as heartworm, or needed surgeries and the costs can be astronomical. So that being said it is never easy to ask for help but supporting your great rescue is giving each dog everything they require from vaccines, treatments, wellness checks, housing needs, food. Having more people in this network is as important as every player on a team. One person cannot carry the team. Transportation is needed, support to pull these death row dogs from shelters or remove them from their unwanted
Homes. CROSSPOSTING is vital
And a need. Donations of bedding is essential, supplies and foster homes. It is hard to rest when you know these pets are on borrowed time. It is an orchestra of fine rescuers here and it takes much planning and personal time while most of us have full time jobs. It is both rewarding and exhausting too! Whether you can give 5.00 a week or donate any of your coffee fund for the week, inspire and encourage others to help raise awareness and help Rottweiler hearts carry the torch needed for our loyal Rottweiler friends in great need!

Rottweiler Hearts Rescue is such a great organization. They go above and beyond to save local rescues in the NC/SC/VA region. They put so much time and effort into all their rescues, ensuring they’re properly vetted and placed in the best homes possible. I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful they are- saving these beautiful dogs who often get stereotyped for their breed. I look forward to the day when I am in a position to help them out more, because they’re doing amazing and admirable work. Photo attached of my own rescue Lilly.

I volunteer to transport dogs in need during the summer. (I am a teacher and usually cannot keep it up during the school year.). I was tagged to transport a rottie on their “last” day at shelter. I met Ed and passed off the absolutely precious baby. I am always amazed at how much RHR does. They go above and beyond. I also transported a sweet boy to a foster in Virginia. It is a fantastic organization.

I am very involved in the large breed rescue community and Rottweiler Hearts Rescue is a very active rescue in the mid Atlantic area. They are well respected, they have solid vetting and adoption practices, and they prioritize the wellbeing of the animals.

A very serious and reputable organization specialized in Rottweilers.

Rhr came into my life during my search for a rottie companion.
I was not a new rottie Guardian by any means but relatively new to the area. I found scrubs online and a picture is truly worth a thousand words. True to his name he was a stray full of fly bite lumps bumps and 30 pounds underweight. But I knew he was meant for me. By the time his rescuer got him back from MD animal control my app was being processed. That's been a lifetime ago. Indigo was rescued from a shelter and she became scrubs partner in all things fun and silly over the years. I will always be thankful for the little birdie from rhr who said indigo would make a great friend for scrubs. She was spot on. I found a passion for rotties as a teen that I could not realize until adulthood.I thank the great work of rhr helping me to continue the love of the black and mahogany Angels with paws.

I adopted my first rottie from a rescue that morphed into Rottweiler Hearts, I volunteered to have educational tables at my local event days and spread the word about how wonderful rottweilers are; I am way up in western NC so not local enough to be at Rottweiler Heart events but I certainly worked up here to spread their message. I have tried to adopt a rottie from them numerous times that would love cats but most don't and to this day I am still trying to adopt a cat loving rottie and I know my first choice would be Rottweiler Hearts their fosters are great at knowing their foster dogs and sharing that info in order to have a great match. The dogs they save are in so much need and they do such a good job of assessing the dog's needs. I highly recommend this organization to anyone looking to adopt a rottweiler.

I have chosen to support RHR with cross posing for help as well as donations for several years .
This rescue takes in the dogs no one wants. The dogs with medical issues, the old abandoned souls thrown away like trash.
They work with dogs with behavior issues as well.
Any rescue can place a pretty face or a cute puppy. RHR of rescue is to me the Face of Rescue. They are what a rescue should be all about.

Rottweiler Hearts Rescue is an excellent organization that truly goes above and beyond for their animals. Their staff and volunteers are very knowledgeable about rottie’s, and they are super nice people. RHR has helped my organization place rottie’s with their rescue. As well as has helped Burlington Animal Services with their Rottweiler‘s. They try to help as many animals as possible. RHR is one of the best to work with.

This organization is amazing! They work so hard to help take dogs out of dangerous, sad and challenging situations to give them a better life and soft place to land. They take great care to vet potential adopters and are very serious about the welfare of the animals. The amount of attention and organization that goes in to some of their rescues is incredible. Highly recommend!

I foster for Rottweiler Hearts Rescue and my experience has been wonderful. They work around my schedule to place the absolute right dog with me and my rescued rott who is sometimes particular in his fur friends. It is so rewarding to help a rottie be the best dog they can be and them find an amazing furever home.

Our experience with RHR was limited to one amazing adoption. We became aware of RHR through a photo of a beautiful male Rottweiler named Buddy who had some special needs. We have been active in the rescue community in Colorado for over 7 years and have fostered and adopted our share of dogs during this time. Most notably a blind Rottweiler named Ranger. Ranger joined our pack in January of 2014 having been dumped on the streets, severely abused and recently losing his first eye from his injuries. It was our experience with Ranger that helped us to appreciate the need to rescue dogs with special needs.
In July 2018 my wife was sent a picture of another blind Rottweiler, Buddy, who had been returned to RHR due to an unfortunate change in his original owner's housing situation. The biggest challenge was the RHR is in North Carolina and we live in Colorado.
When we decided to officially apply for adoption of Buddy we had to include a request for an exception to their policy of adopting only to individuals within a six-hour radius of their location. Our adoption and exception request was considered carefully by RHR and included a video conference call with members of RHR’s Board of Directors. In the end, the positive experience we had with our first blind Rottweiler helped pave the way to being approved.
We can’t thank Rottweiler Hearts Rescue for making an exception to their policy, so we could adopt Buddy. He is an excellent addition to our pack and he has filled the void left by Ranger’s passing. Every pack should have a Rottweiler and if you are looking for a reputable, caring rescue to work with you don’t need to look any further than RHR. God bless you for all that you do for this magnificent, often misunderstood breed.

We are so grateful that we found this rescue. I have rarely dealt with a group so committed, organized and downright strong. We adopted our boy, Cupcake, from RHR when he was only 8 weeks old. He had been rescued from certain death with his entire litter at 4 weeks old. It's been 4 years, and we know that RHR helped us complete our family. In this time, I have volunteered on the periphery and have seen a group of people that have learned so much. One of the most important aspects of running a non profit is to learn what you do not know and be willing to learn it. Wow, have they excelled in this.....and in doing so, have become an incredible asset to the breed and rescue in general.

We had recently lost our rottie at a mere 3 years old to cancer. We were beyond heartbroken. By chance I saw the RHR group and read so many stories of their amazing commitment to so many rottweilers and the families that love them. We were blessed with our Hershey and they came for a home visit to be sure they were giving him to a family that will love and care for him furr-ever. We keep in touch through Facebook and continue to be in awe of their personal sacrifices and continued dedication to helping all the pups that they can possibly can. We are blessed to be a small part of this wonderful, compassionate and inspiring group.

I adopted Tripawd Zeke from RHR three years ago. They rescued him from a rural shelter despite a wonky leg that clearly needed surgery, very expensive surgery. They were able to see his wonderful personality. He came to me after his leg was amputated. He is energetic, exudes happiness, and never misses that leg! We have become a certified therapy team and especially love to work with kids and veterans. I will be forever grateful to this group who brought me this amazing boy.

Zeke was one of the best dogs we've had through the rescue. That boy does not understand the term can't. Nothing ever slowed him down. With your assistance, he has risen to his full potential. Thank you for doing what you do and we love hearing about Zeke's adventures.

We met our Ryker through RHR! He is very much a member of our family. We have a dog, our dog, that we love very much. He needed a forever home, and we needed him to be a part of ours. My husband and I will be forever grateful to RHR for matching us together with him. The work, dedication and love RHR shows for their rescues is undeniable. The lady that had fostered him kept in touch for a bit to make sure he was doing well. This pic is him happy to be watching over our granddaughter.

I have fostered dogs for this organization as well as adopted a puppy. They are a great organization who is very responsible when it comes to the breed (and all dogs they adopt out). They are concerned about matching the right family and dog and educating the families who adopt them. I highly recommend this rescue!

I am the executive director of Vets To Vets United, Inc. We rescue dogs train and partner them with veterans suffering from emotional and/or physical disabilities. Rottweiler Hearts Rescue is a wonderful organization and has helped our charity tremendously by providing us with wonderful dogs that they have rescued for us to train. Two have already graduated for service and therapy in 2018. Their outstanding support and concern for our veterans and the animals that they rescue is clearly evident. All of the staff that I have encountered are professional, loving and caring. We are very appreciative of the hard work that this rescue does to save these precious pups. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to work with this animal rescue.

I adopted my oldest daughters dog from RHR. I also have a second dog that I adopted from them last year that is a previous alumni. I love the work they do; they are professional, loving, and passionate about the dogs in their care and go out of their way to make sure all of their dogs go to good homes. I have nothing but amazing things to say about this organization. I am so glad I found them! Stryker and Maverick agree too! Thanks Rottweiler Hearts Rescue for such faithful companions. RHR has been an amazing association to be involved with as both a foster and an adopter. We were matched with our amazing girl, Stella, in 2014 and she was an amazing addition until she passed from cancer in 2017. The amazing thing about RHR is that when you adopt through them you are gaining more than just a fur baby, you gain a community. They check in regularly to make sure things are going smoothly and are always willing to offer advice.

Thank you Ariel. Our hearts broke when Stella crossed the Rainbow Bridge. You gave her an amazing home. Like so many of our adopters, you've shared your story with others who have felt the same heartbreak. When we say "Welcome to the Rottie Hearts family", we truly mean it.
