Mission: Assisting those in need through community service projects and financial support of tax exempt community service organizations and throughout the world by participating in world service projects either individually or in partnership with other world service organizations such as rotary international or individual rotary clubs in other countries. The foundation acts as the charitable arm of the rotary club of york, maine. The activities to operate and raise funds for the charitable work of the foundation are performed by members of the york rotary club (an affiliated 501(c)(4) organization). All the work of the foundation is done by volunteers.
Programs: During the year, the organization participated in a project which equipped a cancer center in uganda with medical equipment. The project also included covering expenses to send a medical team to the facility in uganda to train doctors and nurses working at the cancer facility.
during the year, the organization supported various local community service projects. These included heating assistance, support for the york food pantry, youth outreach projects such as the rotary youth leadership awards, york high school and middle school interact clubs, odyssey of the mind, and youth music programs.
other program service accomplishments: the organization supported rotary international in its efforts to eradicate polio and also contributed funds to the rotary foundation which supports international efforts to promote peace, access to fresh water, and literacy - $24,970 the organization awards scholarships to four york high school students and three to four non-traditional adult students who are returning to school to further their education - $15,000 the organization supported various programs to assist areas devastated by natural disasters by purchasing shelter boxes for these areas; funds were used to support a literacy project in guatemala; a donation was made to support life and hope-haiti - $8,615
