Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: The purpose of the society is the humane treatment of animals. To shelter and care for lost and unwanted animals. To place animals in humane environments. To implement programs and provide services to promote responsible pet ownership. To advocate for animals and to educate the public on proper care of animals.

Programs: Promoted adoption of stray and abandoned pets by qualified adopters. Maintained shelter to care for pets awaiting adoption, including veterinary care for sick or injured "special pets in need". In 2013 100 dogs and cats were adopted. In addition, lost dogs were reunited with their families.

sponsored public education programs on reponsible pet ownership, including newspaper articles, radio and television appearances and personal appearances at special events (at shopping centers, state fairs, etc) the organization's newsletter and website also feature educational articles. Animals available for adoption are highlighted in a weekly newspaper feature, on television and on the organization's website.

pet therapy visits: well-behaved and personable animals from the shelter ar taken to local nursing homes to interact with the residents, who are delighted to see them. Some pets have found their permanent homes with staff members or residents' families.

in cooperation with animal rescue groups throughout the southwest, volunteers from the roswell humane society transport dogs to rescue shelters, where the demand for specific breeds is greater or where there is a larger pool of potential adopters. In 2014 over 100 dogs were transported to these other rescue shelters.
