Volunteering Oportunities

Nonprofit Overview

Mission: Rooterville's mission is to encourage compassion for ALL animals. Factory farming is the greatest source of the most egregious animal cruelty on the planet, killing over 10 billion animals every year just in the USA. The best thing we can do to help animals, our own health and the environment is to adopt a plant-based diet!

Results: Rooterville has had two great events which each hosted approx. 250 people, we have hundreds of visitors and volunteers every year and we have passed out over 300,000 flyers and expect to hand out thousands more to people at pet expos and students at the Univ. of FL and Santa Fe college campus' encouraging them to adopt a compassionate, plant-based diet. We are excited that our new billboards will be going up soon on I-75 and I-95 with cute pictures of baby farm animals and puppies and kittens, asking viewers the question: "Why love one but eat the other?" We rescue dozens of animals every year who have no other hope and many who have endured terrible abuse and suffering. Visit our website to see some of the stories of these "lucky" ones who serve as ambassadors for all animals being raised for food, eggs and dairy products. Every year we show the film: "Farm to Fridge" to hundreds of people and the documentary in which Rooterville was featured, "Eating Mercifully" has been shown to millions!

Geographic areas served: North Florida and the world!

Programs: The sanctuary is home to over 300 rescued farm animals and we have at least two events every year like the Boo at the Roo and Hoggy Holidays Celebration which draw many visitors. We have many volunteer and open house opportunities for visitors and we always welcome them by appointment as well. Meeting the animals is a fun, educational and, we hope, life-changing experience for hundreds of people every year. We have a leafleting program and pass out thousands of leaflets every year at college campuses and events. We have billboards that ask the question: "Which do you love and which do you eat? WHY? " to encourage passersby to think about the fact that when they eat meat, they are causing the suffering and death of a real animal. Life Reclaimed Ministries offers classes to the community to reverse and prevent Diabetes, Heart Disease, lose weight and feel great! Our goal is to reduce animal suffering by promoting a healthful whole-food, plant-based diet.

A beyond amazing place. Heaven on earth, not only for the rescued piggies, moos, chickens, goats and turkeys, but for all who enter the gates. Spending time with these beautiful animals is truly a special gift. Elaine is one of the kindest souls I've ever met in my entire life, and I aspire to one day be even half the woman that she is.

I have been volunteering at Rooterville the last few months and absolutely love and look forward to each visit. This sanctuary is like a well oiled machine. Everything is very organized and the animals receive excellent care. Elaine West is wonderful and never seems to run out of energy caring for all the animals. All the employees are great and very helpful if you have questions. I’ve always loved pigs,

The kindergarten classes at St. Patrick school have had an amazing opportunity to learn about the concepts of an animal sanctuary and reinforce respecting life in all its myriad forms. As the children tour this amazing facility they see the clean and spacious environment, the well fed and happy animals and the care, attention and dignity that is afforded to every animal. There is no fighting for food or attention. Their needs are met. I have never seen such contented animals.

Rooterville is a true sanctuary with beautiful gardens, tons of shade trees, and lots of happy animals. The staff has always been very helpful, kind, and considerate. They genuinely care about their animals, their visitors, and the mission of Rooterville. It is such a peaceful, serene place to spend time and learn. Not only is it is my favorite place to visit and volunteer, it is also a privilege to do so.

This is by far the BEST farm animal sanctuary I have ever been to - we are able to interact with the animals on a more intimate level than if they were behind cages. I get in lots of piggy belly rubs and pass out treats to all of the resident critters, which makes them uber happy. We even joined as members and give a monthly donation we were so impressed with Rooterville and the care they provide. If I could give more stars, I would.

Where to begin... Rooterville not only rescues and rehabilitates a variety of animals, the fabulous owners teach both children and adults about compassionate living and eating (free of cost) at the farm. I have volunteered at the farm a few times, and look forward to taking my daughter there when she is old enough to be of service to the amazing and unforgettable animals who call Rooterville HOME.

I went to Rooterville for the first time for their July Jamboree. Everyone was very nice and all of the animals were very well cared for. The animals were very friendly and there was very minimal smell. It was an incredible experience and I would highly recommend to anyone!

Last November (2017), I was interning with Vegan Outreach and we were traveling throughout the state of Florida going to various college campuses. One weekend we decided to take a break and visit Rooterville! It was my first time visiting this particular sanctuary and WOW was it amazing!!! To this day, it is still my favorite sanctuary that I've visited

Rooterville is one of the best sanctuaries, hands down. They provide their animals with the utmost TLC!! They “back up” their animal advocacy via continued public education/promotion of a vegan lifestyle.

I have visited Rooterville multiple times for tours, yoga, and to drop off pumpkins after Halloween for the pigs to enjoy. Each time, I am impressed with the amount of care the animals receive and the dedication of the staff and volunteers. The pigs and other animals are treated so well, and I am happy to be a monthly donor and to spend as much time as possible with the animals at the sanctuary!

I have loved pigs from the time I was a little girl. This place it's heaven to me. The pigs and all the animals are are so loved there. The grounds are also beautiful and a pleasure to walk around. The people are so dedicated to the animals.
I have volunteered once at a fund raiser and walked the grounds with fruits and veggies and gave out to the piggies and chickens.
I'm so thankful to be able to go to a place and be surrounded by pigs!!!
Thank you Rooterville.

We went for a visit two months ago, and what a fantastic experience! We were accompanied by one of the volunteers there. Not only did he introduce to us all the animals, but also shared with us the stories behind Rooterville. We were able to get belly-rub all the piggies and fed the giant Tinsel. We really appreciate the idea of letting the piggies go free in the sanctuary, as that should, in our opinion, be the natural way for any animals' lives. Of course, for giants like Tinsel, boundaries are needed, yet sanctuaries should make it as comfortable as possible for these unfortunate but beautiful souls, brought to this sorry world by human's unchecked gluttony. For that, we feel that Rooterville is one of the best sanctuaries we have ever known.

Five stars of course! My family and I visited last year about this time and it's a valuable memory to me. I signed up as a donor through my employer (Travelers matches donations). Rooterville gives dignity to those animals on the property. Love this place.

Pictures of our girls are right here ❤

Probably one of the more impressive sanctuaries available! This is not an anonymous throw-away for misfits, every pig here is loved and known by name. Super clean and well run, the only place I'd ever want my guys to go if something awful happened to me!

I am So Greatful for Rooterville. I was so afraid for the future of our 2 rather Large farm pigs. We took them in to save them from becoming BBQ,, but when our house burned down & my husband died,, i found myself having to rehome them. Plenty of people were willing to take them, but only for food. Having already lost so much,, i couldn't bare to face what was going to happen to the girls. Rooterville came to the rescue giving Ruby & Ballerina a forever SAFE home. THANKYOU ROOTERVILLE ♥

My husband and I were thoroughly impressed with Rooterville! Our tour guide was super sweet and clearly loved each and every creature living there. She knew all of their names and they clearly loved her back, laying down for a belly rub as soon as she came near! We were especially impressed at how well run and well kept everything was, this sanctuary is over 30 acres big and they have 300+ pigs plus goats, cows, ducks, chickens, dogs, everything! They are a very organized organization too and everyone that works there loves what they do. What a wonderful experience, we will be back again!
