Mission: The mission of the ronald mcdonald house is to provide comfort, safety and advocacy in a home-like environment for families with critically ill or injured children who must travel to fulfill their health care needs regardless of their ability to pay. The vision of the ronald mcdonald house of corpus christi is to be the accomodation of choice for families in need traveling to corpus christi for health care services.
Programs: The house provided a semblance of normalcy and a break from the hospital routine to 2,799 individuals by providing a "home away from home" to families during a traumatic time. Ronald mcdonald house of corpus christi cared for 1,080 families so the families could care for their sick children. Families staying at our home come from all walks of life and socio-economic backgrounds. All of our participants are 18 years of age or younger. Over 95% of our families are hispanic. Though families may not share the same language or culture, lasting bonds are formed while staying at the "house that love built. "
I am a Driscoll Children's hospital volunteer. Recently I was asked to assist a new mother staying at ronald McDonald House by helping her get meals from the hospital cafeteria until she could get on her feet and go to the cafeteria alone. The staff and the other residents became a family to this young mother whose son was in the Driscoll NICU. They gave her support and love. The house was immaculate. Her room was spacious. The kitchen area allowed several families to prepare their meals simultaneously. I am proud to support this very worthy non-profit.
