Programs: Ronald mcdonald house- ronald mcdonald house charities of the southwest, inc. ("rmhc") owns and operates the ronald mcdonald house in lubbock, texas. The 17-room facility provides temporary lodging to families of seriously ill children, age 21 and under,who must leave their own community to seek medical care for their child. The house serves children receiving treatment at university medical center, covenant womens and childrens hospital and other various clinics and doctors. See additional comments in schedule o guests must be referred by a social worker and the child must be undergoing inpatient or outpatient care. We will accept a nominal donation of 15 per night per family, which only partially defrays the cost of operating the house, and no family is ever turned away due to lack of funds. The house is also an approved lodging facility for families covered by medicaid. Over 621,395 of in-kind donations of goods and services were received in 2017 covering program expenses that the charity would otherwise have to pay. Major in- kind donations include food, furniture and household items. The house is located on land owned by texas tech university. The yearly fair market rental value of this land has been valued at 48,000. Numerous volunteers help support the staff and guests of the ronald mcdonald house by providing office assistance, meal preparation for families,housekeeping services, gardening, maintenance and special event assistance. Using the per hour value of volunteer time as posted by independentsector. Org, the value of volunteer services received in 2017 was 328,575. Approximately 2,500 people were served at the ronald mcdonald house in 2017. Rmhc also recruits volunteers to assist with non-clinical aspects of operating the program.
the organization maintains three ronald mcdonald family rooms which extend the comfort of a ronald mcdonald house to a hospital setting. Located just steps from neonatal and pediatric intensive care units, families of critically ill children can use the ronald mcdonald family rooms to rest, take showers, get something to eat, and even do laundry. In 2017, there were over 9,000 visits to the ronald mcdonald family rooms.
the organization operates a ronald mcdonald care mobile program in the permian basin area to provide healthcare service to children ages 0-18 who might not otherwise have access to adequate medical services. The program is a joint effort between rmhc and medical center hospital in odessa, texas. The hospital was granted the fully-equipped, 40 foot mobile clinic by ronald mcdonald house charities' global headquarters in oak brook, il. The hospital operates the mobile clinic and rmhc of the southwest provides funding for 20% of the annual operating expenses. See additional comments in schedule o.
the organization supports the education of youth by providing scholarships to students based on financial need, academic performance, and school and community involvement. Our organization requires an additional criterion of a critical medical history pertaining to the scholarship recipient or one of their siblings. Many of these students or their siblings have had life-long medical problems and many of the recipients and/or their families have been guests in one of the ronald mcdonald houses during their toughest medical battles. These scholarships are determined by a ronald mcdonald house charities of the southwest scholarship committee. Ronald mcdonald house charities of the southwest provides one-half of the scholarship and ronald mcdonald house charities global matches the amount given. In 2017, rmhc awarded a total of 14,250 in scholarships to 7 students and one organization in the region who met the requirements listed above. Ronald mcdonald house charities global organization provided 7,125 of this amount as matching funds.
