Mission: The mission of ronald mcdonald house charities of denver, inc. Is to create, find, and support programs that directly improve the health and wellbeing of children. Ronald mcdonald house charities of denver, inc. Is the catalyst to create a world where children have access to quality health care and their families are able to better comfort and support them while actively participating in their care.
Programs: Ronald mcdonald houses:the organization operates two ronald mcdonald houses, one in aurora and one in denver. Our main focus is providing comfortable, low-cost housing to out-of-town families needing to be near their hospitalized children. Between our two houses, we're able to serve up to 118 families each night. In 2017, we served 3,585 families for a total of 38,578 night stays. Families are offered services that make them feel at home and welcome: dinners, playgrounds, massages, opportunities to attend sporting events, groups that come to the houses to entertain, parties, and much more.
community grants & scholarships:during 2017, six grants were awarded to regional non-profit organizations that make an immediate and positive impact on the lives of children in the community. Grants are given to agencies that directly improve the health and well-being of children, focus on healthcare and medical research, provide social services, offer education, and focus on the arts and humanities. In 2017, 59 eligible graduating seniors were awarded scholarships. Scholarship recipients were selected on the following criteria: academic achievement, financial need, community service, and recommendation letters from counselors and teachers.
sky high hope camp:the camp offers a residential, overnight camping opportunity for children who have or have had cancer and their siblings in the beautiful rocky mountains. In 2017, 66 campers participated in archery, arts & crafts, games, water activities, hiking, rock climbing, zip line course, and other activities all in a medically safe environment.
family rooms:steps away from their child's hospital room, the ronald mcdonald family rooms offer families a place to rest and regroup right at the hospital. Ronald mcdonald family rooms are located within rocky mountain hospital for children, children's hospital colorado south campus, and sky ridge medical center. In 2017, 6,574 visitors rested, had something to eat, did their laundry, played with toys, or watched tv.
