I would need much too much space to tell you how wonderful RMHLI is!! We have multiple children with serious medical problems and have to fly across country for care (with another great non-profit Miracle Flights for Kids) and stay at RMHLI every time. It is our home away from home and is beautiful, fun, has wonderful employees and volunteers and they welcome us with hugs and smiles every time we return!! The kids love going there and it takes some of the stress away from their surgeries and recovery. The house provides so many wonderful activities the kids feel they are on vacation. It is awesome for parents because it provides necessities like laundry facilities, kitchens, and the comfort and support of other families who share the same difficulties. Mission: The mission of the ronald mcdonald house of long island is to offer comfort and shelter to families experiencing the pain of having a sick child in local hospital facilities. A "home away from home", the house provides parents & siblings of these children with a temporary haven in a secure and comfortable environment among other families sharing a similar burden.
Programs: The ronald mcdonald house of long island is a "home-away-from home" for families of seriously ill children who are receiving medical care at local hospitals. Families are provided comfortable accommodations, kitchen and laundry facilities, sibling play rooms, and the support of others who share the burden of having a very sick child. Since 1986 thousands of families from neighboring communities and other countries have been served. Other program services include respite facilities for families who choose to sleep at the child's bedside but need a shower, a nap, and time away from the hospital. The house is outfitted with two rooms for this use. Families who stay nearby are welcomed to the house to spend their days, enjoy meals, and relax with other families. In addition, the organization runs a ronald mcdonald family room which supports families through respite space within the hospital.
