Roice-Hurst Humane Society has earned its reputation as an innovative, compassionate organization that cares not just for the cats and dogs it serves, but the people in our community. Another review on this site states that Roice-Hurst does not accept cats, but that information is false - in 2021, Roice-Hurst found loving homes for 408 cats and provided support services like spay/neuter, vaccinations, free pet food, and crisis boarding to hundreds more. Roice-Hurst is making a lasting impact for pets and people in western Colorado and deserves support.
Review from Guidestar
They call themselves a humane society but this last year they stopped taking in/providing care for cats. They now, apparently, only think that dogs have value. Also, they profess to be a no-kill shelter but ask anyone who's previously worked there and they will tell you a different story. The arrogance of staff and management there is appalling...it's more like their animals are held "hostage," and not held for adoption. Exhorbitant rates, unrealistic contracts, and they won't even consider fundraising efforts or ideas from anyone outside of their circle. It's their way or the highway. I gave them two stars because at least they care for the dogs they receive. But there is no way they should be calling themselves a "humane society" when the only animals they care at all about are dogs.
