I had an incredibly disappointing experience with RMPR and would not recommend adopting from them.
I adopted a cat they listed as a 5-month-old kitten, but when I saw her in person, it was clear she was fully grown. Despite my concerns, RMPR repeatedly reassured me that she was at most a year old. After taking her to my vet, it was confirmed that she is approximately 7 years old and already showing early signs of arthritis.
To make matters worse, RMPR’s own paperwork they sent me home with initially stated she was both 5 months old and 7 years old, which I immediately contacted them to question. They dismissed it as a “clerical error” and promised a corrected certificate stating she was under a year old, which was never provided. Now, with my vet’s confirmation, it’s clear that the original paperwork was accurate all along. This level of deception is unacceptable.
When I contacted RMPR to address the issue, they refused to take accountability, calling it a “difference of opinion” between vets. However, my vet explicitly stated that the signs of aging were obvious and that any competent veterinarian should have recognized them. RMPR’s refusal to acknowledge this mistake is very concerning.
Their only proposed solution was for me to return my cat. My cat is now settled into a loving home, and suggesting I send her back to the shelter rather than issuing a fair refund is both heartless and irrational. Not only would this cause her unnecessary stress, but it would also require more time, money, and resources than a simple refund would. This response clearly shows that RMPR prioritizes avoiding accountability over the well-being of the animals in their care.
Additionally, despite assuring me that I could contact them by phone for support, I found this to be completely false. Every attempt to call was ignored, and the only communication they were willing to have was through email. This lack of transparency is unprofessional and concerning.
Adopting a pet should be a joyful experience, but RMPR’s misleading practices turned it into a frustrating and disheartening ordeal. I have all documentation and emails proving their deception and refusal to take responsibility. I strongly encourage others to think twice before adopting from this organization.
We are fosters for Rocky Mountain Puppy Rescue and can't say enough about this organization. They make the process of becoming a foster so easy and seamless. They provide everything you need for the dog/cat you take in and are there 100% of the time for support if you need anything at all. The people who work for this organization genuinely care about their animals and work tirelessly to find them excellent homes. They are making a difference each day by saving the lives of dogs and cats and helping with the spay and neuter movement. They are a wonderful operation to be a part of. The foster coordinator, Austin is fantastic and all the volunteers are great people as well. The adoption events are truly heartwarming to attend too. If you are looking for a place to help as a foster or a place to find your new furry friend- this is the one!
I’ve been fostering with RMPR for about 3-4 months and have had 5 dogs cycle through my care.
Honestly, this rescue is 10/10. They are extremely well organized, readily supply all the resources my fosters need, are extremely quick on the communication, and put an enormous amount of effort into keeping their socials, website, and resources up to date to get these furbabies a home. I recommend them to anyone looking for a fulfilling fostering or volunteering experience!
I have both adopted from RMPR and been a foster for about 2.5 years. As with ANY non-profit organization, there are lots of changes. HOWEVER, the reason I stay is because of the high level of compassion and care for the rescued animals. They are truly making a difference in combatting the overpopulation problem. I have noticed through my tenure as a foster that they have been able to streamline a lot of practices and communication making fostering really easy and hassle-free.
(This is not being written because we did not go home with a dog at an adoption event; this is being written to address the dismissive attitude of RMPR and their claim that we were denied due to a policy that does not exist in writing.)
My wife and I attended the adoption event on October 15th and attempted to adopt a puppy. We sat down with the dog, answered all of the interview questions (after having already done the online application), and committed to adopting the male puppy. However, we were denied the adoption due to having a male dog in the house who is not yet neutered.
We attempted to have a sit-down conversation with the owner, but we were dismissed and told she would not talk to us. When we offered to wait until she was ready, we still got the same dismissive response and were redirected to talk to the owner's husband as he passed us by in the doorway. We were told by him “we do not allow families to adopt a dog if they have a non-neutered dog in their home. It is against our mission.” We tried to explain that our puppy is only 4 months old and that he has not yet been neutered per our vet's professional recommendation for the sake of his health and the latest guidance of the AKC. We brought a signed letter from the vet that we offered to RMPR. He refused to listen to us and told us that our vet must be a “traditionalist” and that it did not matter that we were doing what was best for our current pup. He proceeded to walk away from us and leave us standing with one of the volunteers, never having shown us the basic decency to actually listen.
To be clear: None of RMPR’s paperwork or policies state that they will not allow you to adopt if your current dog is not neutered. In fact, the application specifically asks if you have other animals and if they are neutered - Yes, No, or N/A - and provide a space for you to explain “If no, Please explain why”. We filled that out, gave the medical explanation in person, and were still dismissed without a proper explanation or conversation.
We left defeated and feeling very disrespected as RMPR would not take the time to talk to us or consider our individual situation. In reviewing their mission, we realized that the explanation we were given for denying our adoption was not true: their mission is “To rescue, foster, vet and rehome unwanted shelter animals and promote spay and neuter of all animals.” We were aligned with that mission and yet we were denied … in addition to being disrespected when we attempted to politely inquire.
We followed up with an email asking them to reconsider - they have still not responded to that email.
Our goal was always to give a rescue dog a good home, and we believe in spaying/neutering our animals. All of our past pets have been neutered when the vet has said it is appropriate. RMPR was unwilling to talk to us further and made us feel extremely disrespected by how they treated us.
As a volunteer foster parent, I have had some bad experiences with this organization.
I was given 3 very sick puppies with severe kennel cough, was ignored for days when asking for help, and the communication was abysmal.
I am hard headed so I am trying again, and this time they gave me a puppy with parvo, which is deadly, and then blamed me because I did not meet their communication standards.
Stay away!
First and foremost they gave us a puppy with the Parvo virus. If you dont know what that is it is extremely deadly to puppies. Volunteers were amazing the day of the event. The owner however was very rude and unprofessional, and refused to take responsibility. We havenot even had our girl for a week. She is now in the hospital fighting for her life. Also Rocky Mountain recommended this hospital and the staff there do not like doing business with Rocky Mountain. If my family could give negative stars we would. They are truly interested in making money instead of ensuring that healthy puppies are put into loving homes. So if you like $ 1,000 medical bills and worrying incessantly then please do adopt from Rocky Mountain. Since they cannot guarantee you will have a healthy puppy.
I cannot express enough, how much the efforts of this organization means to me and my family.
They rescued my best friend and his littermates when their mother died giving birth to them. Rescuing them, when they were less than a day old.
The foster-mom and her family, cared for them, and loved-on them for the weeks, and weeks it took, until they were old enough to be adopted. Waking up, to feed the little puppies at all hours, and making sure they were safe as they grew.
Then they screened all of the families that wished to adopt one, to make sure the pups would be taken care of, and loved the rest of their lives. We were blessed with the opportunity to bring Bear into our family, and for that I am eternally grateful.
The volunteers at Rocky Mountain Puppy Rescue deserve wings. Their actions and efforts show that they are really angels here on earth, showing us what love really means.
Thank you all, for all you have done, and all you continue to do everyday.
I have volunteered with other rescues, but RMPR is heads above the rest in terms of their care for the rescued dogs' health and well-being. Their intake process for dogs/puppies taken from the shelter is intensive as they inspect each dog, weigh them, photograph and deliver vaccinations/flea/tick meds to each and every one. Also, I know of no other rescue that supports their foster volunteers as much or as well as they do, providing quality food, kennels, blankets, toys, collars. Their extraordinary support of those of us who foster the dogs in our homes further ensures the good health and well-being of the dogs adopted from this rescue.
I am both a foster and adopter, and love this group. Their dedication to the animals is outstanding - dogs that find the way into RMPR have hit the jackpot! RMPR dedicates whatever is needed to each animal to make sure they are healthy and happy - this includes the adoption process which helps match dog to perfect fit in family and environment.
Adopting our dogs from RMPR was so simple and easy, but we could also tell that they take great care to make sure the dogs are going to quality homes. They give you everything you need to help start with your puppy and are really wonderful to work with. Overall an awesome organization!!!
I've been volunteering for RMPR for 5 years now. They rock. They give you all of the supplies you need and are great about finding perfect homes for the pups. RMPR Is committed to saving as many dogs as they can by not only finding fosters for the dogs but raising money to help spay and neuter pets and by providing surgeries for animals where other rescues just turn their heads at these poor babies due to the cost. Please help support RMPR save lives.
Do you think you can't invest love and time into a dog or cat, just to let it go???
I've been a foster with RMPR since the beginning. Before, I fostered with just about every shelter in the area. Other rescues and shelters take the animal from you, put them in petsmart or petco and you never know what happens to them. They're just gone.
RMPR is different! All foster expenses are paid... Food, medical, supplies. I used to have to buy all that myself with other rescues. ADOPTERS, THAT is where your adoption fees are going!
I've fostered hundreds of dogs and a few kitties with RMPR... I have contact information for every one. I get to interview families and have a say in who my babies go to. I also get frequent updates from families. It's wonderful... I'm still a part of my fosters lives and I know they're safe and very well loved. I can even get occasional lovins when families stop by an event to say hi! This has always been Emma and Tom's goal... Not just to turn dogs over to anyone with the cash. All placements must be for the live of the dog. RMPR volenteers are always there for you long after adoption day. RESCUE IS A PROMISE!
We were so glad we found this puppy rescue for our "puppy" who is now 4. He is such a great addition to our family. Kim (our dog's foster mommy) is absolutely wonderful, watching her through the past years as she raised/loved/nurtured these little creatures. This rescue does amazing things. Wish them all the best in the future. I always refer people to them when they are looking for a new addition.
Our clinic works with RMPR regularly to spay and neuter as well as care for their dogs medically. Over the years I have worked with many rescue groups but none that are as compassionate and knowledgeable as these guys. They step up to the plate time after time to help animals that otherwise would not have a chance. We recommend them regularly to clients looking for new furry family members. Their staff and volunteers are dedicated and easy to work with.
We met our beautiful pups at an adoption event that RMPR had at Petco. We had lost our last dog to cancer and we ready to bring a new family member into our home. The event was so well organized and the volunteers were so helpful as we visited with the pups. The time this group takes to make sure each adoption is forever is critical to placing the pups in their new homes. It was a great experience overall and we thrilled to have our new editions!
I adopted my dog Chloe from RMPR and everybody there was so helpful and just lovely. They take great pride in what they do and have saved countless dogs. I would highly recommend them if you are looking ro adopt a pet!
The amount of dogs this group has saved is amazing! We have four dogs from this group that are now part of our family. As a volunteer, my children have learned a greater respect for all animals. It has even created stronger bonds between us because we do this as a family. I am continously amazed at the lives they save and the work they do. They take in the sick and unloved and heal them. I am proud to be associated with this great group!!!
I adopted my pet Chihuahua from RMPR and I found the whole process to be very efficient and effective. We filled out paperwork, met the dogs, were interviewed and took home our new family member. The fosters were there to answer questions and the volunteer were helpful and knowledgeable. I was so impressed, I volunteered to be a foster too for a short time. This is a wonderful rescue.
I adopted my dog from this group and loved how they wanted to know more about me and my lifestyle when helping me find the next companion to add to my family. I have adopted from other groups in the past that were all too happy to take my money without even asking my name. The volunteers and fosters that I met at the adoption event really know their dogs available for adoption. You can tell they really care not only for the puppies and dogs while in their care but they are concerned about where the pup will go! I plan to reach out to them to become a volunteer and foster myself!
I followed this organization for some time on Facebook and in December 2014 they had a need for more fosters to bring dogs in from a kill shelter in New Mexico. I signed up for one dog and got my "little girl" within a week. She landed her forever loving home in a few short weeks. All told I have had six dogs as fosters at one time or another in my home. Just fostering one dog makes a difference and I am glad to be associated with this tireless group of volunteers in this organization.
I would like to point out that RMPR has brought in precious dogs that otherwise would not have had a chance, nursed them to health and helped them find their homes. RMPR also does not leave Mama behind when they bring in puppies! The family comes.
It is a bittersweet goodbye when your foster leaves for their forever home, but I prefer that any day to watching these wonderful dogs die alone and scared in a shelter.
I started out by adopting my two wonderful puppies through this rescue last year. After researching the group further and reaching out to ask questions, I found that I loved what they were able to do and how they went about accomplishing it. My husband and I started fostering for them in October and they have been amazing at making sure we had all the supplies we needed so we could properly care for and love the numerous puppies and dogs that came through our doors. With everything they do, you can always see their love and passion for what they do as they constantly strive to make a bigger difference.
This is an amazing charity that operates on the barest of administrative costs. Almost all of the resources makes it directly to the dogs for their care and feeding. Most of this effort is operated by volunteers or staff who make minimal salries. There are no shelters, only fosters. The dogs are well cared for and loved until they are adopted!
This rescue really puts their money to work for the communities they serve. Not only do they work with small rural shelters to lower the euthanasia rate in poor/rural areas by transferring dogs out, they actually go to these areas with their vets and conduct low cost S/N clinics of owned animals to stop the problem where it begins. Great group of people!
