Mission: The mission of rmacac is to support and advance the work of counselors as they help students realize their full educational potential with particular emphasis on the transition from secondary schools to colleges and universities and with attention to access and equity, including college readiness, for all students.
Programs: College fairs are offered to the public on a no cost basis. In the 2016-2017 school year, six college fairs, located in phoenix arizona, tucson arizona, denver colorado, salt lake city utah, albuquerque new mexico and roswell new mexico. The salt lake and albuquerque fairs attracted 145 post-secondary institutions each while the denver fair attracted 185 post-secondary institutions. The roswell fair attracted 43 post-secondary institutions. The albuquerque and denver fairs saw approximately 1,000 and 2,000 students, respectively. The salt lake city fair saw approximately 70 students, and the roswell fair saw approximately 250 students. We are now using an automated system through gotocollegefairs. conference for members to focus on professional development and educate members regarding recent developments in higher education opportunities for students.
government affairs - five rmacac members (one from each state) went to conference in washington d. C. On advocacy and then spent a day on capitol hill meeting with senators and representatives from each state.
scholarships - 2 cynthia gale scholarships were awarded to 2 counselors to attend the nacac national conference in columbus,ohio in the fall. Seven counselor scholarships were awarded to attend our super conference in april in san antonio, texas. Ten $1000 scholarships (2 per state) were awarded to students who were nominated by rmacac members and then selected by a scholarship committee.
bus tour - the inaugural college bus tour has 18 counselors from all over the country attended. The tour visited arizona state university, northern arizona university, embry riddle university and prescott college over the 3 day tor. The tour met with admissions officers, toured the college campus, financial aid office, and highlighted programs such as the honors colleges at arizona state university.
road map - 100 counselors from under served schools in phoenix attended a one day training on college trends taught by rmacac faculty and guests, including the vice president of marist college (ny). Counselors were also able to attend a college fair and learn more about out of state institutions and network with the college admissions officers who work with the state of arizona.
