Programs: Communityin 2017, over $500,000 was used to support the nicholas conservatory and gardens programming including the bruce munro light exhibit. Also in 2017, the music in the park sound and light system was upgraded with $67,545 in donated funds. $30,000 of donations assisted the aldeen golf clubhouse with restorations. The city of gardens project was assisted with $37,501 in donations, which was used to purchase plants, flowers, and other supplies to create over 200 hanging baskets to adorn the streets of rockford. Levings lake received much needed shoreline repairs, lake sustainability and park amenities with donations of over $70,000. Lockwood park was able to replace 14 windows in the animal barn thanks to over $12,000 in donations. Nearly $40,000 was spent to support youth and adult therapeutic recreation programs such as buddy baseball, be social and junior chariots wheelchair basketball.
youththe park district foundation is committed to programs that teach children important lessons and help them to establish life-long leisure skills. In 2017, $42,000 was used for the children's exploration station playground donated by the kiwanis club of rockford. The proceeds from ties & tennies fundraising event contributed $50,000 for help me play fee assistance program of the rockford park district. Nearly $30,000 was provided to support youth tennis, figure skating, hockey, basketball and nfl flag football programs. Also in 2017, $16,000 was spent to improve sports fields and $76,152 was used to support youth golf programming including first tee outreach. $14,023 was utilized to provide summer camps for teens.
memorialthe rockford park district foundation's celebrate life program assists families in our community to commemorate a loved one through the planting of a tree, or the placement of a bench in a favorite park or golf course. The foundation received over $34,000 which helped place five benches in various parks and plant nine trees with commemorative plaques. The foundation also supports the "tribute to veterans" event every year to honor our veterans.
