Volunteering Oportunities

Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: Rocket Dog Rescue, founded in 1990, offers a safe, temporary home for sheltered dogs at risk of euthanasia, but we help find homes for strays and for animals whose owners can no longer take care of them. A fair number of animals are rescued because they have varying degrees of medical issues. Some have broken limbs and some may be going blind. To help care for their special needs, we depend on donations from individuals and foundations to cover costs of treatment, hospitalization, medication and diet. For safety reasons RocketDogRescue does not sponsor animals with aggressive histories. We are researching other options for those who need assistance with aggressive animals. Rocket Dogs are ALL well socialized and tested for non-aggressive behavior.

We had a horrible experience with Rocket Dog Rescue.
Pali lies about the dogs she represents as well as plays a victim herself.
She doesn't even deserve 1 star

Very unprofessional. DONT TRUST THEM TO BRING YOUR DOG HOME SAFE! I signed a contract to have my baby girl neutered 2 hours later they called me saying my dog ran away due to their lack of profession. Terrible

Sad to say we are very dissapointed with Rocket Dog Rescue. I attempted for several weeks to rescue a smaller dog, filled out the application forms and left three phone no.s an email address as well as vet, family and references from friends. We have now our 7th rescue dog since 1977. Our pets last 15-16 1/2 years. own our home with 6ft. fence surrounding the yard. We NEVER heard back from Rocket and no messages left on our phones, a Big Fat Nothing ! Why would such a place with the intention to finding suitable homes for their dogs not even bother to contact us ? ! ! !

Rocket Dog Rescue has really stepped up their rescue efforts and are pulling dogs on a regular basis from high kill shelters and placing them into loving homes in the Bay Area. We adopted a dog from Rocket Dog that was a few days from euthanasia and I'm shocked at how many wonderful, stable, and even tempered dogs are being killed on a regular basis. The need is intense and Rocket Dog has doubled down on their efforts to stem the tide of unwanted dogs. I am both an adopter, a donor, and now a volunteer!

I have been volunteering for Rocket Dog Rescue for two years and have found it to be an incredibly rewarding experience. To have the opportunity to make a difference for the dogs who haven't had the love and comfort they deserve is priceless. I have also fostered a few dogs and highly recommend it if you have the means. To be able to get a dog out of the shelter environment makes such a difference for them and helps to boost their confidence and lessen stress. I highly recommend Rocket Dog Rescue as a resource for adopting a dog as well as a place you can make a difference for dogs and meet great people.

I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Rocket Dog Rescue sanctuary during a period between grad school and my current job, and I look forward to returning when my schedule allows. The entire team there works hard to care for and find the right homes for a wide spectrum of dogs. I felt welcomed by the staff and organization management, and know that the time I was able to give helped the quality of life of some great dogs. They're a resource for the neighborhood and the Bay Area community that deserve all the praise they've earned. These are a few of my favorite pics I took while working there. When I finally get a dog it will 100% be from Rocket Dog Rescue.

I love the volunteering opportunity that Rocket Dog Rescue has afforded me. I haven't been able to do any volunteering lately due to my extremely stressful work load since my promotion and limited personal life time, but I know that once that I am ready to return, I will be greeted with open arms. They have given me a chance to learn so much about myself, and do good at the same time. The entire volunteer group here is like one big family, and everyone within the group works so hard to do the best they can for the pups. I love Rocket Dog Rescue, and will remain involved as long as I remain in the Bay Area.

I adopted my sweet pit-mix from RDR three years ago. Had Rocket Dog not rescued her, I doubt she would be alive today: at the time RDR stepped in, she was being beat up on by other dogs on the street, had chronic ear infections, and had several un-diagnosed mast cell tumors. But Rocket Dog took her in and took care of her, and I feel so unbelievably fortunate that they did. Today she's happy and healthy, and lights up every room she walks into.

Since adopting my dog, I've become a volunteer with RDR and have gotten a behind-the-scenes look at all they do for the animals in their care, from socializing, to veterinary care, to working tirelessly to get each and every one of their dogs adopted by just the right humans. This is an amazing organization run entirely by volunteers who have so much love for all dogs, and they've helped to save so many lives. I can never thank them enough for saving my best friend's!

I’ve been an active volunteer at Rocket Dog Rescue for 1.5 years and I can’t imagine my life without being part to of this incredible team. It’s 100% about the dogs. We are a small but might team of people who believe we can positively impact the lives of animals, families and our community as a whole.

This rescue stepped up when one else would to help me rehome a sweet staffie-mix who was dumped in my neighborhood. That big fierce-looking but gentle and sweet pup found a wonderful, loving family because of the compassion and devotion of Pali and her crew. Thank you! ❤️

I'm both a volunteer and an adopter from Rocket Dog. My partner and I got our Rocket Dog, Sally, a few months ago and we're so appreciative of RDR for the whole process! They provided behavioral consultation support and gave us lots of really useful information about Sally. The volunteers who work to get dogs adopted are so knowledgeable, helpful, and responsive.

As a sanctuary volunteer, I get to see the dedication of the organization's staff up close. It's completely volunteer-run - no one takes a salary - and the folks who volunteer there make it an amazing place to be. The dogs are well cared for and loved and I love all the ways in which Rocket Dog engages with the local community.

We love Sally and Rocket Dog :)

Rocket Dog Rescue adopted out a parvovirus puppy to us. Pali lied and lied and lied to us about our puppy we adopted from Bay Area Pet Fair. Pali also lied about her armed robbery and collected thousands in donations. She is a fraud and a scam artist in every sense of the word!
Do NOT adopt from this rescue, as you will never be assured you will get a healthy dog or puppy.

The dog we adopted was not given the vet care stated by the rescue group and Pali chose to lie and lie and then lie about lies. This group cannot go on like this, it is not helping animals nor helping rescue groups build confidence to place animals.

Deciding you are going to adopt a dog is a worrysome process. Mainly because you just don't really know what your going to get. I attended a Rocket Dog adoption event and saw the most adorable doggies. Pali Boucher the founder came up to me and said, "I have the dog for you". His name was Amos. We fell in love, so I changed his name to Otis, and a beautiful partnership was born.
Since then I have learned alot about dog rescue groups and the incredible work they do. Rocket Dog however is a 100% for the doggies rescue group. No paid enployees, limited budget, just pure love for the dogs that society has left behind. Pali Boucher still answers my dog questions. Pail is the Saint of lost Pooches, and she knows more about dogs than anybody.
The Rocket Dog rescue group, encompasses all the qualities we all look for in a charitable organization. Dedication, compassion, and the simple belief that mans best friend deserves better that to die in kill shelters. What this organization needs is more money!

I am a jewelry artist who lives in Ohio and I send my work to Rocket Dog Rescue for auction, 'cause I love what they do.

They don't wait for leaders, they do it alone, dog to dog.

I want all the software companies in SF to host dog adoptions at their headquarters, seriously, Google needs to do this. Like once a month.

Pali is the most genuine soul on Planet Earth.

Thank you Rocket Dog Rescue! You are awesome and I can't thank you enough for all you do for these wonderful dogs. You are like angels who step in when no one else cares. I am honored to know you and we are all truly blessed to have you in our lives. Pali is an amazing women with an inspiring story of strength, compassion and love. It's people like her that make a positive difference in a not so nice world. Thank you Pali and all the wonderful people who help.

I have many good things to say about this amazing organization. Rocket Dog Rescue is an all-volunteer nonprofit group dedicated to saving homeless and abandoned animals from euthanasia in overcrowded Bay Area shelters. This dedicated, hard-working group literally gives dogs a second chance at life. Rocket Dog Rescue places non-aggressive dogs into temporary foster homes where they are socialized, spay/neutered, vaccinated, and treated for any medical or behavioral conditions which would otherwise limit their adoptability. They then actively seek out permanent quality homes for these deserving animals through our volunteer network, online adoption page, weekend adoption fairs, and neighborhood poster campaigns. Founded in 2001 by Bay Area animal activist Pali Boucher, Rocket Dog Rescue is a 501-C3 nonprofit supported completely by donations. As an all-volunteer, home-based organization you can feel good knowing that every dime of your donation goes to helping dogs in need. Rocket Dog Rescue's ultimate goal is to help create a world where all companion animals have loving and permanent homes. A world where no good-natured companion animal, no matter what their age, are killed in shelters because they are considered surplus or unadoptable. They also strive to make eco-friendly and vegetarian choices whenever possible. Check out their website at: www.rocketdogrescue.org You can get involved by adopting, volunteering or donating—they truly deserve your support!
