Mission: Rock and wrap it up is a global think tank working to reduce poverty. Using green house taxctics, we recover food and assets to be given to agencies fighting poverty, increasing their operating budgets. This allows the agencies to hire more services such as tutors, social workers, job placement counselors and mental health counselors to attack the root cause of pverty. Rock and wrap it up recovers food and other asstes from sports, music, film, television and hotels. Rock and wrap it up helped to write the federal food donation act of 2008 which encourages all federal buildings to feed the hungry and keep food out of landfills.
Programs: Rwu school program rwu is in ove 100 schools recovering food that is prepared but not served. Students also participate in the snack wrap. Program which encourages younger students to donate their unopened snacks to children in latchkey programs and in shelters. Colleg wrap promotes greening activities by recovering assets from graduating students which would have gone to landfills.
music and entertainment programs rwu has partnered with over 160 bands that tour and include a stipulation in their contract that food that is prepared but not served not go into a landfill but must feed the hungry. Bands are also recovering hotel assets - ex. Shampoo, cconditioner for the poor.
sports programs: thirty one sport franchises in the nfl, nba, wnba, mlb, nhl and afl have partnered with rwu to participate in sports wrap. Food that is prepared but not sold from home game concessions, luxury boxes and clubhouses is recovered to feed the indigenmt. The teams also work with rwu by sending players to poverty fighting agencies at holiday time. Rwu has teamed up with mlb to help recover food from all start games. Sports teams are also producing psa's for rwu's school programs.
hotels: rwu is currently working with two hotels, piloting the recovery of food and room assets. These assets include, half toilet paper rolls, half empty tissue boxes, shampoos and conditioners from room vanities. The america hotel and lodging association has expressed an interest to work with rwu to expand this program. Rock and wrap it up - advocacy: rwu wrote and helped pass the federal food donation act 2008. This act encourages federal buildings to donate foor from the buildings to poverty fighting agencies instead of allowing it to be thrown out. Rwu is working with feeding america. A food bank advocacy organization, and the general services administration to roll out this act. Rock and wrap it up rock and wrap it up - is an anit-poveryy think tank. Rock and Wrap It Up! Is an amazing anti poverty organization that works with Music Groups, Sports Teams, Schools, Hotels and Film and Television Productions to recover food and other assets and bring them to Homeless Shelters and Soup Kitchens. They have organized the entire NHL League to have all of the teams donate leftover food from concession stands, in the arenas, to local charities. In addition to the 30 teams of the NHL, there are many Baseball, Basketball and Soccer teams around the country that also donate there food because of Rock and Wrap It Up! Syd and Taina spoke to our group of Boston hoteliers about their program, which facilitates donations of food, used toilet paper rolls, shampoo, soap and other goods to a homeless shelter.
