Ride Hard Breathe Easy

Ride Hard Breathe Easy is a unique non-profit that specifically helps lung cancer patients who may need financial or other assistance. Often stigmatized, underfunded, and still the number one cancer that kills, Ride Hard Breathe Easy has helped hundreds of patients fighting this battle. Working with our partners, RHBE will continue to work with patients and their caregivers to ease the suffering and reduce the stress that a lung cancer diagnosis brings.

I was introduced to the group of volunteer leaders at Ride Hard Breathe Easy (RHBE) in 2019 through my work at Temple Health in Philadelphia. One of Temple's thoracic surgeons had received the first donation, and we learned about the donor; a man who'd recently completed a fundraising bike ride- ACROSS THE US!

After meeting John Matthews I was invited to meet the RHBE board and strategize for the future. The team I met next was an impressive mix of volunteers all connected by a passion to defeat lung cancer- civic leaders, corporate executives, families affected, healthcare pros dedicated to advancing treatment....and the list goes on and on. They all welcomed me, and I don't even ride my bike more than a mile or two to the local park!

One of my favorite moments with the RHBE group was having basketball and storytelling legend Bill Walton join a zoom-fundraiser. We were lucky to host him; he lived up to his iconic reputation and expanded the network of advocates for the Ride Hard Breathe Easy mission as only he could.

Thank you to all who have shared time, talent, and treasure with those who need it while they combat cancer, so they can focus on breathing easier.

I joined first Ride Hard Breathe Easy, as I like cycling and wanted to help a good cause. I quickly became enthusiastic due to their main focus on supporting patients in our communities to fight and recover from lung cancer. Their concrete engagements are impactful and align with what I was looking for to support.

I am a supporter of RHBE and ride with them often. The group outperforms its size. the money raised goes directly to those fighting the battle with lung cancer.

Ride Hard, Breath Easy (RHBE) was started by the parent of one of my daughter’s friends. His mother had passed away after fighting lung cancer; he had promised her he would “do something” to ensure that she had not died in vain. Every dollar raised by this charity - mostly through distance biking events - goes to lung cancer research done at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia and Duke Cancer Center in Raleigh, NC.

Ride Hard Breathe Easy is a wonderful organization I’m happy to support. They are helping and supporting the underserved community of lung cancer patients in a real, tangible way. They are making a real difference.

This nonprofit focuses solely on helping people and their families as they battle lung cancer. This nonprofit positively impacts the day to day lives of people.

Ride Hard Breathe Easy is hands-down the best non-profit organization out there. I first noticed this as a participant in their annual RHBE biking event for Lung Cancer support and awareness. In addition to being one of the most fun events in recent memory, the event is well organized from beginning to end.

Over the years, I’ve come to know many repeat participants as well as the event organizers. I’ve learned of the magnificent work they do for the lung cancer community. What is most impressive is that the RHBE founders put their money where their mouth is by riding every year along with other survivors. They take no salary and see to it that EVERY penny is given back to patients in need. Very impressive! So much so that I’ve become a volunteer. Having fun while helping a such worthy cause is a no-brainer.

I will be participating and supporting RHBE for years to come and encourage anyone to learn more about this organization.

This nonprofit has been amazing! I have attended varying events and saw the hard work, and love that goes into each one. On top of that, the money raised speaks volumes itself. The act of helping others come first, and that’s their mission!

It gives support and hope to those fighting a courageous battle at a time when they may feel everything is going against them. Ride Hard Breathe Easy is a wonderful nonprofit doing amazing work for individuals fighting lung cancer and their families. I am lucky enough to work for a hospital that has been a grant recipient, and in my experience with RHBE, it is clear that every person involved is committed to their mission and impacting the lives of many.

If you enjoy bike riding, the rides sponsored by this charity are great for all skill levels. I am a novice rider, but not only did the event coordinators work to help find me a proper bike, but they assisted me throughout the ride and teached me along the way. You also can ride on your own and track through an App if you are unable to attend in person but still want to feel apart of the cause and the group ride.

Will definitely be joining for a ride again, and really enjoyed meeting the charity organizers and other donors during the post ride festivities. This is an awesome charity and a great cause! Anyone trying to help make a difference in the lives of lung cancer patients/survivors needs to consider this charity. All donations help support those in the lung cancer community that need it most. Truly a group of wonderful people that are just trying to make a difference any way they can.

Where to begin…? RHBE is on the front lines of raising money and awareness for lung cancer. Spreading a powerful message with a bigger purpose in mind, the team makes anything possible. The events are always top notch, educational and inspiring. Can’t wait to attend more and be apart of this fight against lung cancer!

I've been working with Ride Hard Breathe Easy for years. With bikes as the focus of fund raising events (although there is also a very fun "wine" event), it is a perfect match for me. What has impressed me the most is the passion and dedication of the doctors associated with the partner hospitals. These doctors truly care about their patients and finding a cure. A significant increase in lung cancer research and awareness is needed. RHBE is championing that fight and at the same time helping today's patients get to the treatments they need.

Ride Hard Breathe Easy is fully committed to supporting patients and family members impacted by lung cancer. We work with a number of affiliated hospitals in the Eastern United States to provide this support.
Our major activities and sources of funding are bike rides, wine tastings and auctions.
The entire Ride Hard Breathe Easy team is very passionate about battling lung cancer and serving individuals impacted by the disease.

True dedication, hard work, energy and grit to make sure Lung Cancer Patients can get to and from treatment, help with difficult expenses. . . this organization does more then it says. It is run by a man who believes in the effort so deeply that he rides thousands of miles himself to raise money. He energizes the team and encourages others to do the same! Ride Hard Breathe Easy is one of the best of the bests!!!

Ride Hard Breathe Easy is making a difference. Its mission is to end the stigma and suffering of lung cancer patients and caregivers in the name of Kathleen Matthews. It fulfills this mission through activities designed to raise awareness that lung cancer patients are often stigmatized through assumptions around the causes of lung cancer, and raise funds which are administered through 5 partner hospitals and health care facilities. Most often, Ride Hard provides funds otherwise not available to patients for every day and basic needs. As an example, funds are used to help get patients to their visits, which during the pandemic (and even before) often provided an obstacle to obtaining care.

Ride Hard Breath East is a great nonprofit that is working to end they stigma of lung cancer. RHBE is full of enthusiastic and caring volunteers who truly believe in what they are doing!

I joined the Ride Hard Board at its inception. We are making a difference in the lives of those that are suffering from pain and stigma of lung cancer. We support hospitals who identify patients in need — providing the most basic support — often times a ride to an appointment that allows patients to make their appointments. We meet our mission with humor, humility and hope that we can make a difference.

I volunteer for RHBE and what I have found is a group of passionate, smart and dedicated people who's mission is to help those with lung cancer. Many of the group have seen the ravages of lung cancer up close and personal and they strive to do something to ease the hardships of people suffering from this dreadful disease. It is an honor to be part of this organization.

I've been volunteering with RHBE since its inception. I have the utmost respect for founder, John, and his wife Beth. They are wonderful people on a mission to truly make a difference in the lives of those fighting lung cancer. I'd had the pleasure of meeting some of the RBHE Board members as well. They are all great people with big hearts who truly want to make a difference.

Dedicated group running this non-profit. Tangible assistance to patients, research and hospitals dealing with lung cancer is provided by RHBE and their fundraising efforts. Their ongoing engagement with legislators is important and interesting to follow. It is easy to get involved with this organization in small and big ways. Participation in annual events is fun and rewarding.

This organization directly impacts patients suffering from lung cancer by raising awareness around the stigma and lack of funding for lung cancer research and providing financial support for those in need of social services.

My father died of lung cancer in January 2017. I found out about Ride Hard Breathe Easy through a co-worker and immediately wanted to get involved.

RHBE takes great care to ensure that all activities and funds benefit all those impacted by lung cancers - patients, caregivers, and providers. It is inspiring to work with a nonprofit that is so mission-driven.

This is an non profit dedicated to removing a stigma and saving lives - and it's personal, with a commitment that had a man ride a bike across the country to kick it off and show his love for his mom. He was supported by hundreds of family and friends who now join every year, in many different ways, to make his vision a reality, celebrate his mom and help people live longer, healthier lives.
