I wanted to adopt a bird, but never heard from the rescue. I commented on one of their facebook posts mentioning it, and she mentioned she wont approve me because a bird I have came from a rescue that has PBFD. I was completely unaware of this outbreak, and have had my bird for 4 years. Regardless, I am getting my feathered friend tested immediately.
Than, I was blocked from the Facebook group. I just wanted to know why I wasn't approved, and actually took what they said to heart and am getting my bird tested before adopting another bird.
Whoever runs this rescue is rude. Why block me when I ask a legitimate question? Did I attack? Did I try to argue? No. I just mentioned my bird has been healthy for 4 years, no signs of the disease. But instead of interacting with me, they instead chose to just block. STAY AWAY from this rescue, as something seems fishy.
Follow them on facebook where you will see the director of the rescue (a one person operation) shames its followers into donating for whatever new parrot is brought in. If not enough money is collected this person has a tantrum about being the only one who cares about birds and “giving up”. Anyone who disagrees or has a different point of view is immediately blocked and shamed with posts of the interaction to the group. This person has some obvious mental problems. Thankfully she does do a good job with the parrots she rescues. Unfortunately dealing with the public is not her strong suit and hence the reason her rescue will always remain low budget.
Rickies provides a much needed perch for some of the sweetest animals who have suffered neglect and abuse .
This rescue in So. Florida is wonderful in helping the bird community. Each bird that comes in gets the care and love it needs while waiting to find a new home. Rescue work is hard, very hard and unless you have been involved with all that goes on you should not criticize. There is no State or Federal finding for animal rescues so they must be funded by donations and adoptions. Money is always tight and yet the needs of the animals must be met. That responsibility falls on the rescue owner, they must find a way so that no animal has to go without. Asking for donations is not fun but a necessary evil. If everyone who finds a rescue could give a little financial support it would be so helpful. The birds want to live the good life in their temporary home and rescue workers want that for them. Everyone can help, if you can’t adopt, donate; if you can donate, volunteer; if you can’t volunteer, spread the word about the good work the rescues do; everyone can do something. Step up and help the animals and rescues succeed.
One of the best rescues out there. They care about the rescues and the adopters. Nothing is too good for their rescues. They take in some of the most complicated cases. They vet them and work with them until they are ready for their forever families.
I see the hate group has been here. They are still slandering and lying about a man that died 2 years ago from cancer. These women obviously have no one in their lives and nothing better today. There are a total of 6 I believe in this little sad pathetic group. It looks like Sarah responded to them. Please read her response as well as the comments left by others. These pathetic ladies don’t deserve the attention.
This rescue recently took in an obviously very sick bird on a Sunday from the owner, and instead of telling the owner to take the bird in for veterinary care, or taking it herself, she immediately asked for donations. The next day Sarah (person who runs this rescue) posted the bird had died. She never posted anything showing the bird received any veterinary care. This seems to happen a lot.
She was evicted from her place of residency and proposed placing the birds in her rescue inside a tent! She is in Florida, a state that is hot and prone to hurricanes. This kind of thing has been happening for years. No job (she claims to be on disability), and no place to live herself, much less any parrots. She constantly begs for money because she doesn’t have any. (No kidding! It appears that she only has a “rescue” in hopes of supporting herself, not the birds!) Don’t anyone dare question her decisions because she will block you, and then make posts to mock and make fun of you.
I see she’s claiming she pays $700 for rent, yet she claimed the place she is living was donated. After people challenged her idea of putting birds inside of tents, she was angry based on her responses. She says in an RV, but the picture she posted looks more like a small camper. I am not sure how many birds fit inside of it. Especially birds that eat $800 a month (her claim) worth of food.
I have adopted 3 birds from this rescue that may have otherwise been euthanized. They are wonderful additions to my family.the birds in their cate receive top quality vet care & are well loved & cared for.
Excellent parrot rescue. They truly love and care for the birds in their care. I would highly recommend adopting from Rickies Parrot Rescue.
I was unable to care for my white faced cockatiel. After searching for a reliable, caring rescue, I found Rickies Parrot Rescue! They are extremely knowledgeable, I felt comfortable knowing that he would be well taken care of! I highly recommended RPR!
This is a great rescue ran by the most caring and genuine soul ever. If you want to know someone who truly cares about birds, this is the place to go.
The amount of love shown by this rescue brings me hope that there is good people in this world still. Thank you for everything you do. It never goes unnoticed and you have a beautiful heart. The amount of kindness you put into the world makes this a better place.
Although I do not YET have an experience with this nonprofit organization, I am rating this organization with the highest rating allowed because of their absolute perfection with caring for these beautiful birds. I have observed many caring organizations, and Rickies stands tall. The love, care and devotion has impressed me so thoroughly that I have decided to adopt a bird from them. In comparison to all other organizations, they exceeded my expectations! I am an experienced bird parent and realize what it takes to take care of these beautiful birds. My beloved African Grey died in June, and I just can't be without birds. I absolutely know that when I come to their location, I will be adopting a bird that has been truly cared for. Thank you so very much for your dedication!
Rickies Parrot Rescue cares deeply and passionately for birds in distress. They go above and beyond to improve the quality of life of the parrots that come into their care.
I've learned so much about Parrots and their care from these folks. They go above and beyond in providing medical and nutritional care for the birds in their rescue.
Sarah runs this rescue and is such a selfless, dedicated champion of parrots in need. It is truly an unending labor of love, commitment, and compassion. So many of these neglected birds need veterinary assessment and treatment, in addition to appropriate size caging, toys for enrichment, and nutritious diets. Any and all monetary donations are vital to providing the care these birds need.
What a great place. Parrot rescue is a huge need, and a very specialized skill. Rickies is a blessing to those no longer able to care for a part to, and to parrots who need rescuing.
I noticed something had been eating mangos that fell to the ground from the mango tree in my backyard. After further inspection I found a wild parrot that could not fly on the ground. Right away on a Saturday morning I called Rickies Parrot Rescue. Sahara answered and within 30mins of my call she was in my backyard. She was able to safely get the bird and give him a quick look over. She then educated myself and my children about these wild Nayday Parrots. Sahara let my kids name the parrot, they choose Piper. Piper was vetted and x-rayed immediately to find he had an old break in his wing that could not be repaired. Piper was sent to live in a beautiful aviary with other wild parrots like him. Sahara kept us updated about Piper, her dedication to the birds is unmatched. Thank you Rickies Parrot Rescue for all you do.
Sarah at Rickie’s Rescue has a huge heart. Her love for all animals is so incredible. It takes a very special person to care for special needs birds… Sarah has that special heart to do the job!
Rickies goes above and beyond in their services to avian companions. Sarah shows a compassion and dedication to rescuing neglected and abused birds that is unprecedented in South Florida. She campaigns 24/7 to see that these creatures are provided for receiving the care needed and a brighter future.
This rescue is wonderful. They take in disabled birds and try their best to help them (many even get adopted out ),
Through their rescue mission and active posting on social media, the amount of knowledge Rickies Parrot Rescue shares on avian husbandry has been incredibly helpful to me as a bird owner who has a variety of species.
They really do care and make sure all the birds rescued are taken care of with proper medical attention and proper nutrition - sharing their experiences with the public and never expecting anything in return. Rehabilitating those who can be, and ensuring those who cannot still have fulfilling and healthy lives is among the highest of honorable callings. Educational articles are a huge part of what they publish, and we are the better for it.
Parrot rescue is essential to our community and provides honest compassionate lifesaving service to injured neglected and abandoned birds. I m a strong supporter of this organization
Rickies Parrot Rescue is my favorite! The owner is dedicated beyond measures & often uses her own money to safe & rescue parrots. This rescue will do anything & everything to safe a parrots life or forster them until they are ready to be in a lovely home.
She really goes above and beyond for these birds!! Truly amazing the work she puts in to help save the birdies!!
Rickie's has been such an asset to birds needing hospice care. Many rescues can't or won't be able to offer refuge to birds who have complicated medical issues or have special needs. Rickie's however does a ton of emergency services for surrendered birds and really deserves more grants!! Please check them out and help if you can.
I live in Texas but support this Florida rescue because, like my wife and me, they help the special needs birds: the disabled and abused parrots that have no reason to trust humans, but blossom when finally shown the love and care they deserve. Of course, that means their vet bills are even higher than the average rescue's. So they really deserve and need your support.

Blatant lies from a stalker group. This group goes around and twist’s information to their own liking in order to lie about good rescues!!!! The blue crown conure they are talking about was a WILD ADULT! It didn’t have an owner. My vet is on my board of directors. I called her. She said to give it sugar water which I did!!! Every 2 hours around the clock all night long. Last feeding as 6am! He was gone at 8am when I got up to rush him to the vet! 70.00 was raised for that bird. The donors were asked if they wanted a refund or if it was ok to put it towards the cremation. All of this was posted publicly! I am on disability for HPT, and SVT!! My rent is 700 and car payment 400. That leaves quite a bit left over! I have no problem supporting myself. Fundraising is done for medical emergencies and now due to the EXPANSION of the rescue. Rescues don’t expand unless they are successful!!! These senile old ladies have been stalking and lying about the rescue for years!
