I have volunteered for the Richmond SPCA for many years and this is one place that you will never, ever wonder if what you do matters, because it does. The staff make sure that the volunteers know they are appreciated. Every animal in the shelter is loved by every staff member and every volunteer, they have been a no-kill shelter since 2002 and work very hard to help other local shelters become no-kill. The Richmond SPCA goes all over the state of Virginia to pull animals that otherwise might be put down, they also go to other states and have accepted animals from other countries. Volunteering at the Richmond SPCA is a very rewarding.
The Richmond SPCA is an amazing organization and resource for animals in this community (and beyond)! They do an amazing job with education for both kids and adults, adopting homeless animals into loving homes and providing essential low cost vet care to keep pets with their families. The Richmond community is incredibly lucky to have an organization such as this, and I am so excited for their continued expansion. You also can't forget the fun events they plan, which raises money to help homeless animals...Fun for a cause! Anyone who is interested in learning more should sign up to volunteer or attend the Dog Jog, Fur Ball, Supper Club, or just go take a look around. You will not be disappointed, and may end up with a new furry family member! 5 stars!
The Richmond SPCA is a wonderful organization that I was first introduced to as adopter. After adopting our sweet pup eight years ago, I began attending events in support of the SPCA and looking for more ways to get involved. They had, after all, rescued a sweet Lab and nursed him back to health, who later became my first baby! I have most recently evolved into a volunteer. I am proud to support an organization that not only saves animals but supports the community.
NOT WHAT YOU THINK. Do not donate to the Richmond SPCA... You are better off going to your local no kill shelter and asking what you can purchase to help. Giving money to the SPCA is like giving money to a bum that is going to use it to purchase alcohol. The SPCA is a supporter of the Humane Society of the United States. To truly see what these extremest do with the money that you think is going towards helping those poor abused animals that you see in the commercials, check out http://www.humanewatch.org/

For Central Virginia residents, the Richmond SPCA is their local no-kill shelter. We are an independent, private non-profit organization founded in this community in 1891. We are not a chapter or affiliate of any national organization. hstephens' review does not represent any personal experience with this organization or its lifesaving work for our community's homeless animals. Instead, he presents an attack on the Humane Society of the United States, a respected organization we have successfully partnered with to advocate for legislative progress to improve the welfare of animals in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The link referenced in this review belongs to a sham organization created by Rick Berman and Company, a PR firm that disparages HSUS and others at the behest of corporate interests that profit from the mistreatment of animals.
