Mission: ReSurge International's (formerly Interplast) mission is to provide free reconstructive surgery for people in developing countries, and to help improve health care worldwide. The organization’s goals are to establish, develop, and maintain host-country medical care and educational programs with the following objectives: Provide direct patient care—reconstructive surgery and integrated care services—to those with no other resources. Provide educational training and medical interchange. Assist host-country medical colleagues toward medical independence. ReSurge maintains no political or religious affiliations. Sensitivity to, and respect for, other cultures as equals pervades the ReSurge philosophy and deeply influences the manner in which we conduct ourselves as ambassadors.

In 2011, my wife an I went on a surgical trip to Bolivia with ReSurge. Over the course of two weeks, 62 surgeries were performed by volunteers and staff from the U.S., Canada, France, The Netherlands, Mexico and Colombia, side by side with eager to learn Bolivian doctors and nurses. These surgeries gave the patients -- mostly children -- the use of their hands for personal care, work and studies. They also erased the stigma of disability that prevented them from fully participating in their towns and villages. This is only one example of what ReSurge does. Thousands of life-changing reconstructive surgeries In Asia, Africa and Latin America every year both by volunteers and through the training of local physicians and staff. Now ReSurge is taking the lead in an international effort to raise awareness about the plague of burns that affects as many women and children in the developing world as does HIV/AIDS. I can't speak highly enough about this organization. A final note, efficiency ratings of non-profits tend not to consider the value of in-kind services given to organizations. In the case of ReSurge, this penalizes the organization for the donated surgical, nursing and educational services that are at the heart of its mission. ReSurge should be top rated and is deserving of your support.
