Respite Care of San Antonio has provided our family the village we did not have. Moving to San Antonio from out of state, we have no nearby family or friends. We are raising a son with special needs, and it is hard to find quality and trustworthy care. We had not been on a date night in years! Connecting with Respite Care of San Antonio has provided our family with an abundance of support in more ways than just respite. The camps, access to parenting workshops, and so much more! We are SO very grateful to have Respite Care of San Antonio as a part of our lives! Thank you!
As both a parent and a proud team member of Respite Care of San Antonio, I can say with heartfelt confidence that our Developmental Childcare program is nothing short of extraordinary. Watching my own child grow in an environment that is nurturing, inclusive, and attuned to the unique needs of each child has been a deeply affirming experience.
Our team operates with compassion, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to trauma-informed, person-centered care. The intentional focus on developmental milestones, emotional safety, and building trust makes this a place where every child is seen, valued, and celebrated.
It is both an honor and a joy to witness the impact of this work—not just for my own family, but for so many others who entrust us with their children.
This is more than childcare. This is community. This is care with heart.
My daughter has been going to respite care San Antonio for just about a month, but I'm already seeing amazing progress in her social skills and speech development. I am so grateful for this service!
I don’t even know where to begin—my heart is so full. My son, Atticus, has been attending Respite Care since October 2024, and the experience has been nothing short of life-changing for both of us. As a parent who’s had some truly painful experiences with childcare in the past, I’ll admit—I was incredibly cautious and overprotective. I’ve witnessed things no parent should ever have to see: unexplained bruises, constant crying, daily accidents, and an environment that felt more like babysitting than a place where children should grow, learn, and feel safe. For more than a year, I kept Atticus home with me. I had left my job, unable to trust anyone else with his care. Then, one day, everything changed. My cousin told me about Respite Care, and I decided to visit. From the moment I walked through the doors, I was greeted with warmth, compassion, and understanding. The front office team and staff truly listened to my concerns and reassured me that Atticus would be safe, nurtured, and loved here—and they have kept that promise every single day. Since joining Respite Care, Atticus has completely blossomed. He’s no longer the anxious, tearful little boy I once had to pry from my arms. Now, he walks in with a smile—and sometimes cries because he doesn’t want to leave! I see his artwork proudly displayed, and I hear him excitedly talk about his day of course in sign language or gestures since we are still working on language, his teachers. He’s learning his colors, shapes, numbers, and words—things he should have learned long ago, but never had the chance to in other daycares. What stands out the most is the love and patience every single teacher shows. I’ve done pop-ins, and seen only kindness, encouragement, and respect toward the children. There’s no yelling, no neglect—just genuine care. Respite Care has not only helped my son thrive—it has healed something in me, too. For the first time in years, I have a peace of mind. I trust them with my whole heart, and more importantly, so does Atticus. There are no words to express how thankful and blessed I feel to have found this center. Respite Care gave us both a second chance—at trust, at growth, and at joy. And for that, I will be forever grateful. This photo is the very first professional daycare picture I’ve ever received where Atticus isn’t crying or has puffy eyes from crying all day. It may seem small to some, but to me, it means everything. He’s a completely changed little boy—happy, thriving, and full of light—and that’s all because of the incredible love and care he receives from his amazing teachers.
My daughter has been with this center since she was 8weeks old , I had to return to work and was so afraid of leaving my child in daycare, they worked so well with my baby and her having separation issues , they would take her out of her room and give her one on one care when she was having a hard time as she was attached to the director and her teachers Mrs Kathy and Mrs Myil. We have definitely become more like family and I love watching my daughter grow each day passing her milestones and surprising me with new things that she has learned , they offer so many family activities that we have been able to take part in and include my other children that are not enrolled in family events, they have picture days and fun things they do with the kids, they offer additional days for parents night out. They are very understanding and very patient with my child as they even gave her extra time time to transition to the toddler room when she struggles with change, they listen so I always feel heard, my daughter is now 1 1/2 years old and will continue to go to respite care until she starts school. I highly recommend this child care facility. Thank you all for all you do
Our son had the opportunity to attend a few camps hosted by Respite Care of San Antonio and he absolutely loved it. Our son is usually hesitant to engage with people he’s unfamiliar with and not always interested in other kids. When he was attending these camps he bloomed. He was always excited to go to camp and came home really excited to show off some of the skills he learned at camp. Thanks providing a space for our babies where they can be themselves and thrive!
Respite Care has been a huge help since my former micro-preemie son was the size of a newborn even though he was 6 months old when he first started attending. He is now a thriving 3 year old who still attends weekend care for FDO and I appreciate everything that this program has helped and not just daycare. I have received winter coats for Artemis as well as gift bags and cards for participating in surveys. I am so happy to have found this program to help when I need a small break or time to run errands which as an older mom can be a little more difficult with a rambunctious toddler. Thank you all for everything you do!!
My son was non-verbal and having a very difficult time at his former daycare. All the other children spoke so his language was hitting when he was frustrated. That daycare threatened to kick him out and scolded us the parents as not telling him to act better. He ended up being diagnosed as autistic which allowed us to enroll him in Respite Care. Since being there his language skills have flourished with him always talking about his favorite colors, vehicles and the moon. He doesn't hit anymore, he now hugs EVERYONE. The staff is so loving and gentle, it really is amazing that all the teachers and aids know all the kids names and what they like even if the child is not in their class. I thank Respite Care for all it has done for my son and our little family.
Volunteering at Respite Care of San Antonio has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Last year, I had the privilege of assisting at their Fiesta Open House alongside my sorority sister Lizzy, who at the time served as their social media intern. Seeing firsthand the impact that Respite Care has on children with special needs and their families was truly inspiring.
Now, stepping into Lizzy's former role as the new social media intern, I am grateful for the opportunity to continue sharing the incredible work that Respite Care does. Being able to connect new members of Delta Xi Nu Multicultural Sorority, Inc. with volunteer opportunities has made this experience even more meaningful. Respite Care provides vital resources and a nurturing environment for families, and I am excited to help spread awareness of their mission.
A huge thank you to Lizzy for paving the way and for sharing her knowledge with me. I look forward to continuing to support Respite Care and encouraging others to get involved with this amazing organization!
As a volunteer intern at Respite Care, I’ve had the privilege of supporting this organization by coordinating craft activities and assisting with haircuts for the children they serve. Additionally, I’ve collaborated with Respite Care to organize service events for my sorority, where we prepared meals for children and crafted with them. The staff at Respite Care are not only responsive and considerate but also deeply passionate about their mission.
I started with Respite Care of San Antonio as a volunteer, and it didn't take long before I felt called to join the team. I began my journey as a consultant, and within a few months, gratefully accepted an offer to join the team full time. In the past year and a half, I have learned so much about the foster care system, the struggles of our community, and have seen the incredible transformations of the children who go through our programs. I hope to serve this mission for many years to come!
