I volunteer for Rescue Animals Second Chance Inc., which is a horse rescue and sanctuary. We give a pain free and happy life back to horses that have been abandoned, abused, starved, and neglected. We rescue horses from kill pens and give them a forever home. Kill pens are the last stop before innocent horses are sent to an horrific death of slaughter in Mexico or Canada. The United States has outlawed slaughter, but horses are traumatized by being transported without food or water. We are the largest horse rescue and sanctuary in West Texas. Our founder is Dr. Beth Nickels, a general and trauma surgeon in Lubbock, Texas. We have been a non-profit since 2013.
